Factions, Starting positions, Release schedule - Total War: Warhammer 3

I got my doubts they'll be giving us a any surprise factions apart from the confirmed ones (Other than the 9th LL likely being Bel'akor and perhaps they're updating WoC at the same time), so I expect Ogre Kingdoms to not be included as we're already getting so many race factions and for us to have placeholder factions the same way Vampire Counts were placeholder for Tomb Kings, which also was a big chunk of the map being "barren" in Vortex. I can see Chaos Dwarfs being preorder. At first I was against it, but the more I think about it, the more they'd suit in similar way Norsca did given neither are official factions with too much that needs to be added, even if Chaos Dwarfs got attention from Forge World. I dunno if they ever said that race would be in WH2 though before WH3 release, I feel they wanna avoid a Norsca 2.0 situation and it'll solely be for WH3, having it be part of its main map without delays. As for the trailers and such, it's a pretty cool prediction! I wanna believe they got that planned, at the same time my thoughts are that they'll do Slaanesh and Nurgle next and they will go up against eachother rather than Chaos Dwarfs or Ogre Kingdoms, since latter I doubt will be there and former I don't think they'll bundle the preorder race into the WH3 base game hype. Then at the end we get Cathay and Tzeentch. But could be wrong, maybe it's Slaanesh vs Tzeentch and Cathay vs Nurgle, but Chaos vs Chaos 2nd and Cathay vs Chaos as last pair is my prediction, and then the preorder faction inbetween or after.

I agree Cathay/Tzeentch is the classic matchup but Slaanesh/Nurgle isn't as much that classic rivalry so I could see them jot being together. I think based on Hamsters' timeline pre-order is probably Ogre Kingdoms and they will face Tamurkhan/Khugath/etc like in the End Times. I'd love to see DawiZharr or Ogre Kingdoms and whichever is missing I hope we get within a few months

Thank you for the video. It's interesting. I don't think it's correct, but definitely interesting. The problems I see are: 1) Both the Chaos Dwarves and Ogre Kingdoms will have a lot of popularity. Both could serve as stand alone DLC and sell well. CA wants to make as much money as possible. It would make more sense to separate both races and sell them as distinct DLC Race packs. 2) The empty space on the Eastern Edge of the Mortal Empires map could be filled with another faction the video does not mention as the Pre-Order Faction: the Hobgoblin Khanate. Hobgoblins will be a part of an eventual Chaos dwarf faction. This means CA already has to commit resources to them. It would make sense to harness that investment with a distinct Hobgoblin Faction. Further, a Hobgoblin Khanate faction, not only could occupy space on the Eastern part of the Mortal Empires map, but because they stretch across the not-Russian Steppe of a possible Immoral Empires map, they could act as antagonists against both Kislev and Cathay. Lastly, it would introduce a faction with a distinct play style: heavy focus on light archer cavalry as the not-Mongols of Warhammer.

I see the argument, but with all the rumours spread for Chaos Dwarves CA would get a fair amount of push back if they went with a relatively obscure faction (both Ogres and Chaos Dwarves got a codex, Hobs never did) they can always release a faction pack down the line with more units, hero's and Legendary Lord's so Pre-LC'ing them won't cut into the bottom line that much as we all buy those DLC's regardless, (always want mode units) customer good will has a value of its own and something cool like the Hob Goblin Kahnate getting rejected basically because of timing it's not worth it,

On a side note, I agree with everything except that I am not 100 percent confident about them mentioning ogre kingdom so early on (pre release). If they are the first dlc post release I would assume it would be months and months after release (unless they change their release schedule). Meaning that there would be a lot of time between their announcement and release, potentially killing the hype for ogre kingdom by the time they release. Everything else I feel will come true 100% with at least an 80% confidence. Great job.

The one thing that lore-wise isn't perfect is that canonically Nurgle hates dwarfs most of all, so it is a bit strange to have Chaos Dwarfs fight Slaanesh. Maybe instead of being side by side with their worst enemy (Khorne on the side of Slaanesh) they could be "in pairs", so that Khorne+Nurgle can wage war to the West together and the other two are a threat in the East.

Given that we've got two Lords each for Kislev and Cathy it makes sense for two Chaos Gods to be facing each. For example; I could see Khorne going after the Ice Queen while either Slaanesh or Nurgle faces the Rasputin like guy. Thematic too; either the Monk gets tempted by sin or has to fight demon plague and use holy healing to counter it.

Oh dude, we don't care about the swear words either, but for some reason KZbin does I think the positioning makes sense as you've layed it out (although that's no garuntee it's how it will play out) as the Chaos factions are also placed next to their own main rival, Khorne with Slaanesh and Tzeentch with Nurgle

It accually does hurt my feelings saying another vc lord would be boring. I am not to much excited about neferata, but am waiting for a propper rework since ages it feels. I am excited for Chaos dwarfs, but i hope for a rework more than for them beeing implemented that early.

Slaanesh should appear in the chaos deserts of the North Naggaroth area, I can't imagine Slannesh without being part of the elven structure and their manipulations. It makes no sense to me that they put them facing the factions of the old world that first of the TWW3...

The chaos faction have no "real" home in the material realm. They come from the chaos wastes and that region does not follow mortal logic. According to the lore. Still, they will have to come onto the world map somehow and I doubt CA will create a different "Chaos-Realm" map that interacts with the main world map. I doubt the engine can handle that. At least in the W3 campaing with Kislev, Cathay, Chaos + ?, they have to come from the north of there. Because this is where the game will be played. In the Total World Campaing it may be differrent though.

Ogre kingdoms arent in the game on release, unless they where the pre-order. the 6 races are kislev, cathay and the 4 gods. i just dont see chaos dwarves being the pre-order dlc, plus pretty sure the pre-order dlc was said to not affect wh2. dogs of war are the only race minor enough to be a pre-order and not cause overwhelming bad guys. if chaos dwarves are day 1, we have chaos dwarf lords at least 2. 4 god specific factions and the mysterious 9th LL so thats at least 7 factions vs 2 kislev and 2 cathay. plus chaos dwarves are a cool faction that would sell so its reasonable to me that CA made ogres and chaos dwarves a DLC faction each with dogs of war as the pre-order.

Ogres aren't bad guys , Dogs of War is very WH2 impactful so by your own logic there is no reason to suspect a DoW pre-lc. It is Ogres or Chaos Dwarfs and I'd be shocked if it was anyone else

@@McHobotheBobo are you so sure on that dogs of war are very impactful to cathay and the darklands... pretty sure they where the army that first introduced those areas in fact since they are way older than ogres as a faction. Dogs of wars entire thing was they went across the warhammer silk road in these huge elite merc caravans to go to the far east. it was super dangerous and barely any returned. the only thing dogs of war really have in common in new world is the lustrian colony and old world its mainly tilea since its a trade hub.

Chaos dwarfs not gonna be pre order. Because chaos dwarfs are to popular and CA knows this u put Chaos dwarfs in a dlc vs any factions it’s going to sell like crazy. Instead of throwing them in a flc. And then be like norsca. If anything probably be hobgobbs pre order. As they are in the same area. And there army rooster is not that big plus hobgobbos. Just a larger version of gobbos. Plus they are slaves to the chaos dawi. Idk. We will see but I think that’s how it will go down.

Totally left out the possible inclusion of the Hobgoblin Khanate. And also the 9th legendary lord/faction is possibly Belakor but possibly could be either the Chaos Dwarfs or Ogre Kingdoms.

Agreed, I did not go into much detail about the DLC factions. Also LLs were not discussed. But I do not think there will not be a new faction cfor Belakor. Chaos undivided is already in the game (just without deamons) as the Warriors of Chaos and Belakor will become a new legendary lord for them. At least that's what I think.

there are 6 races base game confirmed with 9 LL's, i dont really see how you got a 7th faction in there... there is talk the 9th LL could be belakor since he technically wouldnt be a 7th race and GW did recently release a new model for him but nothing is confirmed yet... chaos dwarfs i agree they could be norsca 2.0, hopefully done better, ogres will probably be dlc down the line, their spot in the map could easily be populated by placeholder skaven/dawi/greenskin factions till they come out, that also happened in tww2 with tombkings after all, its not unprecedented the timeline you made with the signs is kinda cool... also with the khorne roster blog they teased "mysteries and delights" which could be either slaanesh vs tzeench or just slaanesh, lines up with the sign timeline as well... and lastly, chaos monogods being actually unique doesnt seem like a pipedream after the khorne reveal... they might share, like what, furies/hounds/soulgrinders? and maybe a couple of warrior units that could easily look and play totally different? thats less like arkhan- tomb kings likeness and more arkhan-VC likeness.. or vampire pirates- VC... well, probably wont be THAT different but they probably wont be that similar either... like 70% unique rosters, unique lores of magic for those that have them and unique playstyles and canpaign mechanics? lets wait and see tho

Can you explain why chaos dwarves are against the daemons? I know the c dwarves worship a lesser chaos God and not one of the main 4, but are they known to never team up with the chaos forces?

That is a good point. The Chaos Dwarfs are allined to some exend with Chaos, but not affiliated to the big 4. Just like the Skaven, they worship a different entity. As such they may more easily ally with some chaos faction, but have their own goals.

Well made video, but people should absolutely not get their hopes up about Ogres being in WH3 on launch. WH3 is already launching with an insane amount of content. Kislev, Cathay, 4 different Chaos factions (yes they certainly have similarities, but also have lots of differences and all require different models, its way more work than you are making out here) PLUS the pre order faction PLUS likely Be'lakor and a chaos undivided faction. That's an insane amount of content. 8 different factions, 11 or more starting lords, that's already way more than any other WH game has launched with. Plus remember, CA still wants to make money on this post release! If they blow their load with Chaos Dwarves and Ogres before the game even comes out then they are severely limiting their options for possible future race packs. Just no way its gonna happen. Not to mention your best piece of evidence, the giant hole in the map where Ogres would go is something we know CA have already done before twice! WH1 shipped with a giant impassable zone where Athel Loren was supposed to be and WH2 had this massive area where the Tomb Kings and Araby were supposed to go and they just filled that with other somewhat related factions. CA has no problem shipping a game with a large part of the map empty of the faction that is supposed to reside there. We really just have truly no reason to believe Ogres will be present on launch.

Wow I hope you are right but I never dared to dream the map would end up looking like that. I just assumed there would be one small area that enters the realm of chaos and all 4 factions of chaos daemons would emanate from that one point. I hope I am wrong about that tho. I do remember hearing something about how big the war3 map would be in relation to the mortal empires map but I can't remember what the quote about its size was. Edit...wait I thought they already announced what the 6 factions would be? Did I just assume that 4 were chaos and 2 were kislev and cathay? This part is a little harder to hope for but let me recheck the stuff I have seen from them.

The idea that we would get 6 races instead of 4 and twice the map size for the same price as warhammer 2. I could more easily believe they planned to do that in conjuction with their DLC but just off the top with the base game.......I'll just be very cautiously optimistic.

@@phantom3969 Right but at least one of the factions included in this game they had to let Games Workshop design brand new instead of just looking at 8th edition roster versions before they could then work on their version for the game (Grand cathay and most of Kislev) Then along with having to wait on GW to make the factions for their return to the old world they ended up having 50% more factions than previous warhammer games on top of that. Then I ask myself what company decides to do 50% more work compared to game 2 for the same price instead of finding a way to sell us that extra work in follow up products or bundles....if I was a betting man I wouldn't bet on that but maybe I will be pleasantly surprised and game 3 will actually have more than 6 factions baseline when counting monogods.

​@@Wardemonxi 1st of all, they didnt really have to "wait on GW", they could work on other stuff while GW did its thing... 2ndly 50% more factions is definitely not 50% more work, the game includes new maps, campaign map, along with a new narrative campaign like the vortex and the mechanics that go with it, new lores of magic, QoL features, settlement battles and siege overhaul, AI and of course some things do overlap between the gods of course, im not a game developer but id say the extra work on factions would be more like 30% on your last point, this is the last game of a trilogy meant to be played together and they probably want to draw in more people to be in for the long haul, the game could easily have a 5 year long life cycle after release, with tons of dlc they want people to buy... quick cash grabs happen, but they are not always smart and in this case going out with a bang would make them more than a cash grab... like think about it, its like the paradox games if you think of tww1&2 as big dlc... every single one of their games have "very positive" reviews on steam (except for imperator rome) and a hue of dlc just follow... and you end up with people that spend 100s of $ for the complete game... making the base game good is an investment so they can sell you dlc
