This is yet another reason why the education system is so flawed, this random guy on KZbin can explain these concepts exponentially better than my math teacher and I don’t even have the ability to ask questions. God why can’t every teacher explain math in this way straightforward, doesn’t overly simplify or complexify it. So that every kid has to completely understand they explain it in such a long drawn out way. Instead of the most simple straightforward logical way. It’s the adderall that’s making me write this

This is excellent. I found a parallel way of thinking in chess. I came across a problem where in the middle of a complicated sequence, there was an even exchange of rooks. To me, it reminded me a lot of factor-simplification. Let me explain: with the middle part of the sequence involving a rook exchange, things were a bit complicated. But, when I realized that I could look at the rook as a GCF, it allowed me to simply take the even exchange and go back to looking at the cleaned up (factored out) remaining parts of the sequence. I hope I am explaining this decently. : ) In this way, I was able to cross spheres of knowledge: making an anaologous cross understanding of both fields: math and chess helping reinforce useful concepts in each respective field. By doing this, I both strengthened my math understanding (ie: putting a practical face to the exercise of factoring) and my chess understanding. : )

I think why people like this kinda teaching so much is because it just tells you what to do. Not why. Why teachers take so long is because they want you to understand why you are going through the operations that you are going through. We don't know why the formula is a^3+b^3=(a+b)(a^2+ab+b^2) but if you'd listen to the teacher you'd probably understand. But this definitely clears it up for struggling people bc teachers try to tell you what you're doing while telling you why you're doing it which makes everything muddled. Personally, I think that teachers should tell you what to do *then* tell you why you're doing it.
