If :4(x-2)(×+3) how is 4(3) 12x when there is no x

You can think of it this way: 4 is going to multiply the x and the -2. And those answers will multiply the x and the 3. You could draw a tree diagram. So the possibilities are 4(x)(x) , 4(x)(3), 4(-2)(x) and 4(-2)(3). The second product shows you the 12x :)
