Tip for next playtrough: Nauvis is the final science place because only there you can place biolabs which essentially double all your research flasks.

Also btw remember that in order to get end cast products out of foundries the metal goes through the +50% productivity TWICE, because you need to first melt the ore in a Foundry, and then cast it in another. This effectively DOUBLES the iron/copper you get out of ore.

You are my new favorite Factorio player. The absolute artistry and elegance of your designs goes really well with the tangible, real, human frustration and excitement I hear in your voice. I feel bad for laughing when you get all worked up. (I just saw your new playthrough video and had to come back and watch these ones)

Every new planet offers a new production building with either built in 50% productivity on everything it makes (including non-intermediates) or a building with 8 module slots. Combined with the 50% resource drain on mining and it’s almost obscene how small a factory you need to produce 1000 SPM. Also look into the new effect transmission for beacons. It’s more effective to put two speed modules into a single beacon than it is into the building itself. Gleba, while a pain to get figured out, is 100% free for all resources, including rocket parts. Everything is synthesized from plants which can be grown endlessly. It’s overpowered for sure. You could always ship free resources with free rockets from Gleba to anywhere in the system. For the demolisher: check out its entry in the Factoriopedia. Note its heath, regen, and resistances. You have all the tools to burst DPS it down with your current tech with at least four different methods. You could probably also take out the medium size ones too with current tech.

I think the main issue you ran into was the spaceship design. On Aquilo, you absolutely require a spaceship capable of realiably hauling resources from all other planets, and being compact pays huge dividends. My Aquilo ship was maybe a quarter size of yours', and it's probably due to a few factors: 1. You can just throw away stuff into space, no need for recyclers and the old asteroid crushing recipe 2. If you are willing to put asteroids on a sushi belt, you save A TON of space. Every collector can grab any asteroid, so you need way fewer. Asteroid reprocessing, which is super useful, is really easy with this: just grab the stuff that you have too much of on the sushi belt. 3. Solar sucks on Aquilo, so a 2 reactor setup would save a bunch of space, and also allow for some speed modules to fix bottlenecks. Anyway, good luck with your next playthrough!

For small demolisher worms just use 200 gun turrets with red ammo. Yes a lot of them will blow up but you have INFINITE iron and copper. You can build as many gun turrets and as much ammo as you want.

When it comes to devastators, my tip is to go for Tank with Uranium shells for small devastators, they die in about 5 shots, and after you unlock Tesla Turrets from Fulgora you can ship them to Vulcanus and use them to kill medium and big devastators as they will melt under them (I use a blueprint with 40 turrets in, when i place them around the end tail of the medium devastator, it will die before it can turn around and with level 8 energy weapon damage i can kill big devastator if i use the same tactics although it will cost me some turrets). I basically build big power poles as i walk around and when i see a devastator i try to lure it in a way to allow me to place the blueprint with turrets somewhere close enough for the turrets to hit him before he starts his big shockwave attack (he wont do it without being attacked first). Tesla turrets are so effective as they deal energy damage which devastators have only 20% resistance to, and their beams chain with devastator's segments applying damage multiple times per hit. Hope that helps :)

For me the current craze is automall - one assembler with bunch of combinators that can make (almost) anything, thanks to the new selector combinator and ability to set recipes with circuit network. Sure, its throughput might be low when compared to dedicated mall, but it's also way smaller than tens of mall's assemblers it can replace. Might be useful on that planned space factory.

I wouldn't mind a slightly slower video pace to hear a little more about your considerations for design and the order in which to build things : ) I tend to just pauze the video and copy base designs here and there, but I feel like im only scratching the surface. Perhaps a more raw version of footage of when you design the mall in space?

My mind is already furiously working away on several video ideas. I'm gonna be busy the next six months or so. Ship design will definitely be one of those. In the meantime there is a lot of footage on twitch (anotherbigfoot) if you want to search anything specific out. 3rd and 4th November I think were the days I was working on the space ship.

These have been very frustrating to watch as there have been so many mechanics he's not engaged with. There's still the quality system he's not used, and it doesn't really seem like he's set up a "train network" between the planets.

That's a brave move considering how much you put into this. I honestly don't think the new planets and Space Age in general is as good as the hype we were all expecting. I watched loads of playthroughs by other streamers who finished it and its one big anti climax. Those ships for example look terrible and the gameplay doesn't seem to flow like it does in the vanilla game. Oh well good luck I'm sure your new ideas or someone else might make the game better than it currently is.
@theotherbigfoot2 ай бұрын
My opinion here, I think the planets are excellent but that space is boring. The ships should really be separated into two things 1. a small ship for interplanet travel and logistics and 2. a factory fixed in orbit which can't move and which we can dock with and transfer materials. The two things have been joined together in space age and I'm not a huge fan of that. A few well thought out mods is all that would be needed though.
@starburst982 ай бұрын
The ships are exactly as big as you make them. Quality matters a lot for space. Can make everything more than twice as powerful with epic quality, which means the ship can be half the size but produce the same amount. With it being half size you don't need as many weapons, meaning you can make it even smaller, meaning you don't need as many weapons, so you can make it even smaller, etc. Research also matters, more gun and rocket damage research means you need less factory making ammo since things will take less shots.
@szymoniak752 ай бұрын
@@theotherbigfoot why do you say they have been mixed? you can create a platform from any planet so they don't have to travel, it's just that Nauvis is the only one planet that doesn't have any asteroids that can hurt you in its orbit but a few rocket turrets will suffice even for Aquilo. I think it's a decent balance decision, otherwise you'd have free iron/copper on all planets
@theotherbigfoot2 ай бұрын
@@szymoniak75 What I mean is that from a logical 'real world' perspective it doesn't make much sense to move a big heavy platform around space. More realistic would be to have a small ship for travel and then a big platform permanently in orbit around a planet.
