Finally someone explains it with examples, and makes it all clear. Been playing this game for years and only used blueprints for trains so far. Cause all the other videos I've watched, basically just spout out the description of the signals,

As a new player (started a little over a week ago), this video's exactly what I needed. I've had a lot of fun figuring things out on my own, but struggled with rail signals/chain signals until coming across this. Great choice to explain how signals divide intersections/etc. into blocks and making it easy to visualize them. I've had to start over several times, but knowing the basics of railways is going to help a ton from here on--especially since the Space Age expansion is dropping next month. Thanks for this!

Nice job! I have not heard that they take in to account the breaking distance. I always wondered how that problem could be solved. Also understanding that blocks expand to crossing rails also was eye opening. Before understanding these facts, I could not understand how signals even could work without using green and red wires + combinators to tell the signals to work properly.

TY! Had to login to leave a like. First playthrough and this will solve my issue. I have two separated circular single train systems (one for oil and other for iron ore), now I want to make more of the same (for copper and coal) and will share some of the tracks, this is going to help greatly. While building it seems that the game only cuts the track when you add a signal, so if you have long tracks it is worth to split into some sections so you don't block trains just because there's another one 2 screens away.
@Krydax82 ай бұрын
yes, you often want to place regular signals just to keep it so trains can be spaced closer together when traveling along the same route. Just make sure they're spaced out long enough to hold an entire train length!
@OGuardadorDeRebanhos2 ай бұрын
@@Krydax8 Yes, for now I'm doing 1~2 zoomed out screens for each block and it is working, iron and copper trains come and go sharing some of the rails. Zero machine-machine crashes, only 1 human-machine crash. I'm calling that successful.

I am not getting it still. When i build my signals just as shown in the video, the trains stop at the end of the intersection, causing crashes. Is it because my train is on a loop rather than a straight track? This is really bothering me lol
@Krydax83 ай бұрын
@@Scarysteevo loops work fine if signal led properly. If it's stopping at the end of the intersection, that means you have trains in front of that block. So you need to clear the block in front. As far as causing crashes, that means you need other signals so other trains can't run into those areas if they are "full" with a train. I would suggest watching my chain signal video too! Those are usually used for intersections to guarantee trains don't get in the way.

i really dont get what im doing wrong. i have one train that literally stops in the middle of the intersection and im having them go both ways. i did exactly what you did in your video
@Krydax82 ай бұрын
Well if the block that is in front of your intersection is full, a train will not be able to enter it. If you want to keep intersections clear, you'll need to use chain signals, which I also made a video about! Regular signals alone aren't going to make intersections very efficient. But they will at least keep things from crashing!

@basildaoust2821 Жыл бұрын
I've been led to believe that it was not possible to create a safe 4 way crossing, but you just did it and you did not even use a single chain signal, which I do find odd but you also said you would have another video :) So I get the idea of signal in signal out but I always figured that my whole train should fit inside a signal area and obviously my train can't fit in the tiny area leaving the intersection so could my train not get stuck blocking the intersection? Sure, maybe it won't be deadlocked for all eternity, but I might feel that way if I need that trains load of materials :) Maybe I shouldn't complain until I watch video 2.
@Krydax8 Жыл бұрын
You're correct. It can block the intersection without chain signals. I probably should have emphasized that more. The chain signal video will explain more, I think it's linked in the description right?
@basildaoust2821 Жыл бұрын
@@Krydax8 Well maybe, I saw the link on the video list on the right so I did go watch that as well, and I'd love to say I get it now but I have this feeling that I don't, but I did like when you said that the chain signals would ensure that my train could get into the signal past the through signal so I did smile at that point. Oh, and I really liked that crossover you used, though I should say the obvious I was so lost in the video I'm not 100% sure it works as a perfect loop back, though maybe the area would need to be far too big for that :) Thanks.
