I think one point to note is that you need radar coverage to be able to blueprint from afar, so a lot of solar grids also include radars so that you can continuously expand (though a lot of times you also want to remove those radars once they're not on the edge of visibility so that they're not wasting power)

One of the included blueprints comes with a radar. In my experience I have found that running out and pre-placing roboports and power, then coming back and placing the solar and Accumulators and doing it in large batches is the best way to get the bots to build the solar array as the network isn't changing they tend to build much faster!

@@JDPlays but, uhh... you can't do that from map view for a 50x50 chunk (or larger) solar field... ;)

Thanks, I need to make at least 100 GW of energy for my base. I got to the point where my FPS began to drop and I need to get off nuclear energy.

Solar is super optimised! Most super super large scale bases are nothing but solar!

I just do 35 solar panels per substation (6x6-1), and 80 accumulators per substation (9x9-1) on a max spread substation grid. Roboports and radars as needed. It makes the math much easier (Panels/substation: ~2 MW peak / ~1.5 MW average, Accums/substation: 24MW peak / ~17 MW average). I actually got rid of 90% my accumulator blocks because my nuclear power can generate hundreds of megawatts of excess from stored steam and a few extra turbines. Since 1 tank of nuclear steam is 485 accumulators, it saves a lot of space and resources, and I can just do pure solar panel builds.

I like it steam is way more compact, and actually somewhat cheaper

In real life, nuclear is actually better since solar panels produce very little power and require *very* specific circumstances to produce full power, however nuclear reactors produce a lot of power constantly and don't need a specific set of circumstances to keep producing power. But in Factorio, solar power is probably one of the best power sources you can have (I haven't played until the endgame, but they don't require maintenance like the engines or reactors, but they still require large amounts of spaces to produce meaningful amounts of power.)

I have a tonne of steam engines can i put these next to them? Sometimes they are at full speed other times they are sitting there haha

if you dont mind a gigantic solar array next to it, go ahead lol

Don't see any reason to follow any exact design. Only if are limited by land or for some easthettical purposes (imho this design in video do not look easthetically organic). Nothing bad to leave some gaps - not to block or slow your movements thu base. Just hold proportion 238 panels to 200 accumulators (gross 6/5). Nothing bad if u will have some little extra accums in your design, especialy if u play with biters and defending base with lasers or u have inconsistent energy consumption.
@wdym._. Жыл бұрын
actually the proportion is 21 acumulators to 25 solar panels

@@wdym._. 238 to 200 is a more accurate proportion
