Factory reset on Rand Mcnally TND 740

How to reset a frozen Rand McNally TND 740.
1) shut power off
2) press and hold the power and home buttons
3) select factory reset
4) press volume up, volume down and power buttons
5) release buttons and repress volumes and power buttons
6) select "factory reset"
7) reboot device

For those with the TND 740. Heres how it worked for me: Hold down the Home, Power, and Volume Up buttons when starting up. Then press Volume down to select the first choice in boot mode. When you're on the robot screen, hold volume down and power button for 5 seconds and tap the volume up button as well when the 5 seconds are up. Try pressing all 3 at the same time afterwards. Then scroll down to factory reset and select. It will notify you that it will reset. Then select at the top the reboot selection. Boom! Everything is good now right? Nope! Still didnt work! I connected to my wifi and then did the updates, which is the down arrow icon on the main screen. Is it working now? Nope! Go to truck tools and then GPS repair. Let it do its thing and it should work like it did for me. Doing the factory reset makes it fresh with no corrupted files and you shouldnt update or do GPS repairs beforehand Edit, when you arent using your GPS, turn it off. Leaving it on might give you the same problems again.

This helped me figure out how to unlock demo mode on a TNDT70! Got it free from an old display unit. 😀 Holding both volume buttons with the power button for at least the time it took for it to restart allowed me to get to the settings to reset it. THANKS!

If that doesn’t work, go to the truck tools menu and scroll down to GPS repair, that ended up working for me. Also make sure you’re connected to WiFi or a hotspot. Thank you for this video input tho!!

After calling rand McNally and watch your video 10times reset the gps 100times still showing me that tnd has stopped launch! I believe the only thing we can do is everybody switch to garmin or some other brand!

If holding home and power button doesn't bring the diagnostic menu. Then try this, First Turn off your GPS. Then hold power and volume down button together, after few seconds let it go. Then it will bring you to recovery screen.

You should connect the Rand Mcnally to a WiFi hotspot then let it update by pressing the down arrow with the circle around it on the touch screen. Mine took about for hrs to update and install new maps but after its done it should work like new again.

Please use the following steps in order to resolve the TND Launcher Stopped error on your T54/T74 device. Restart the T54/T74. Plug into a computer (the Dock, if installed, will NOT open) Go to File Manager > This PC > open your device > Internal Storage Open Navi folder > Open the User Folder Delete the two files called “User” and “UserGPS” by right clicking > Delete Unplug the device from the computer and restart the entire unit. After this, you will need to run another check for updates and install all that are available in order to get the patch that permanently corrects this issue going forward.

Then asks reregister put in name , forgot what email used originally, so I put the one in I want it to use! Get to zip code put my current, old etc. at zip code should hit submit. It knocks you out doesn’t like last name, or any zip code. Wants to flip to next screen “connect” I’ve tried hotspot , TA, how pick device name how to pair to have Wi-Fi to go thru tools set up. Just hitting destination re starts the ordinal error first screen in your video. I don’t believe unit problem since both of them 2 are doing the same thing. On the road need destination, gps, map to get there

I made comment earlier about I have tried full steps here and still didn't fix the problem, just wanted to update for those people who had similar experiences like mine, I have just fixed mine, once you guys switched on the device go for truck tools and press on GPS Repair, make sure connected to the internet, the device will do the rest, just follow the update files on your device. Glad to see your video, but when I held all 4 buttons to bring up factory reset, nothing happened and in fact shortly the system just began starting as normal. I tried waiting 10 seconds, releasing other buttons first, etc. Nothing worked to bring up that new menu. What am I doing wrong? I'm actually trying to reset the device so that I can sell it without my previous account and info on it. Help please.

If you can't get what he's doing to work I just got instructions from RM overseas tech support. Same thing a person made in the comments before me. Please follow the steps below to manually factory reset your TND 740 device: 1. Turn the device off 2. Press HOME and POWER buttons at the same time (new menu) 3. VOLUME DOWN to select "Android Recovery Mode". Use POWER to select 4. The screen will flash black once, and then show you the same menu. Do nothing, this is supposed to happen. 5. Once you see the green Android with "No Command" press and hold VOLUME DOWN and POWER. Then tap the VOLUME UP button and release. 6.You will see a new menu. Use the VOLUME DOWN button to select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" 7. Press POWER button to Reboot System Now when menu appears 8. Device will reboot a few times and flash, and then will return to Out of Box state. What I did was go to about tablet, click model number 7 times. Go back and you'll see the option backup and reset. So far it's working!

That's interesting! Tapping the model number 7 times enables or disables full features. Tapping build number twice told me I was 2 steps away from being a developer, whatever that means! There are functions there RM won't tell you about. Hopefully disabling functions I'm not using so it actually works as a GPS , like the old ones that weren't trying to be tablets to a million useless apps!

Nope everytime I turn it off by mistake I have to run gps repair. It randomly will stop taking zip codes at that point again have to run gps repair. Rm wants me to send it in for repair.

I write c++ and Java, I'm certain Rand McNally uses the cheapest technology people they can in this planet. This TND 740, IS is crap! I've factory reset lost all my personal data but the maps are still ancient, US 20 in Iowa from Waterloo I380 west is still shown as a two lane, Kansas highways Nebraska, Saskatchewan to name a few locations are out dated. I phone technical support and they tell me the maps must be current! Then they tell me to update again.

easy fix ..just connect to your computer and delete the user files and gps file and you are back on line..
