Hey man, sometimes life doesn’t cooperate. You probably know this better than most. The fact that you share your mishaps and shortcomings is what sets you apart and will ultimately garner you more success. You can’t fake what you bring to the table, keep up the awesome work!

As a North Idaho native, this sounds all to familiar. Hunting in the woods and mountains up there can be a daunting experience. Very hit and miss even for the most experienced hunter, so many things conspiring against you up there in those mountains. That said, what you faced was one of the worst possible experiences in hunting. Taking an ethical shot and having the least desired effect; mortality wounding an animal and it wandered off and died a slow miserable death. I'm hopeful you were able to analyze the experience with your hunting guide/ friend and make any necessary adjustments for next time/next year or whatever.. Good Luck, and be safe and take care out there! Lots of knuckleheads running around in those hills.

Happens to the best of um, no shame in it. Sounds like the deer potentially survived, based on how little blood was left behind. And if not, some coyotes along with many other scavengers and bugs alike got probably a weeks worth of good eating on the poor bastard. Thats just life sometimes

This past Wisconsin rifle season 3 of us hunted with 300blk. My nephew was the only one to get a shot. He succeed, getting 2 8pnts and a 3pnt. We group hunt here, so don't fly off the pistol grip over his 3 kills. Long story longer, his 2nd buck took 2 hits to die, and his 3rd buck refused to die. He ended up shooting it 5 times, the last was point blank. He was shooting unsupeessed subs and all shots were under 75 yards. His rifle is a little Remington carbine bolt gun. Needless to say, I'm having second thoughts on 300 blk. I used supers, but never got a chance to try it. His first buck dropped in its tracks, he knew the first shot on the second was not ideal, and the first shot on the 3rd buck, he claims, was a dbl lung. What ammo are you 300 blk hunters using?
@KitBadger4 жыл бұрын
300Blk can be hard to hunt with, especially subs. Shot placement becomes super critical with slower rounds...

For bipedal omnivore hunt the 300BKL is great in the 120 meters range... with the 10" barrel. For other kind of animals just grab the Fix in 308... Great video buddy... like always... o7

Good thing you didn’t shoot at a bear. That is totally not enough gun for a nice bear. Edit: I do most of my hunting with pistol. It is a lot like hunting with a bow. My 10mm auto is 180gr at about 1300fps. It definitely doesn’t drop deer quick even when shot placement is absolutely perfect. Switching to supers in your gun is a much better idea.

That is a sweet looking rig. Can you do a video of what distance you zero it in, then shoot out to distance showing the drop? Enjoying this series, Ivan. Always great content and scenery.
@KitBadger4 жыл бұрын
I think I covered most of that in Part 7. Actually, maybe not drops. With subs, zeroed at 50, it is about 7" at 100 using the 188gr Discrete Ballistics.

How effective is subsonic 300 blackout for hunting?

The Idaho fish and game is ruining (along with wolves) our game reserves! My foray hunting with sub .308 is that very few bullets are designed to work at the low speeds, at least for game. I like the Lehigh defense bullets.

I think 300blk is fun to shoot but doesn't have the terminal performance to hunt with.
@KitBadger4 жыл бұрын
Subs can be hard. I think there is a legitimate use case, though it is pretty narrow.

@@KitBadger www.hornady.com/ammunition/rifle/300-blackout-110-gr-gmx-custom#!/ even that has only 1,000 ft pounds of energy at 100 ft. and its supersonic. 300Blk is super neat. It's a blast for shooting suppressed but I don't know anyone personally using it to put meat on the table. That makes me question personal defence too. I'm not saying it doesn't have a place. However I think the Sig hybrid case design might revolutionize the industry and maybe we can get a 300 blk Super that will have higher velocity out of a short barrel. You know Sig is already in R&D on it.
@gorps4 жыл бұрын
@@nfarrar the issue with that is that the pistol gas system would make a higher pressure 300blk really violent and lead to highly accelerated parts wear / breakage
@nfarrar4 жыл бұрын
@@gorps I'm talking about in a compact mini action bolt gun like the Mini fix or Sig Cross in a mini action. If its based on the Sig hybrid case design. The Bravo Co MK2 upper might be able to handle it. The barrel would need a reduced gas port. maybe even an adjustable gas block.

This is a major concern with me about 300blk. I don't think it has the terminal performance to ethically hunt with.
@WallyMerc064 жыл бұрын
Honestly a 16" barrel with supers would be ok for shortish range. I know dudes that use .223 and kill deer regularly....., but IMO with almost 3 full decades of hunting, I'm not using anything below a .243 for deer sized animals. That's just me though. Please hunt how and with what you like. Shot placement is always key no matter what you hunt with.
@nfarrar4 жыл бұрын
@@WallyMerc06 I have hunted with 223 myself but 223 has almost double the ft lbs of energy at any range. Nothing wrong with 243. Imagine a 243 or 6.5 in the new sig hybrid case that would fit in an AR15!

If you omit parts of a story, you change the story. First and foremost it was about providing high quality meat for my boys and I. And honestly I was really surprised, I think with a supersonic round it wouldn't have gotten up. I'm curious though, do you hunt? Do you eat meat?
