The best cat is a shelter cat. All cats are wonderful though. I've had a Russian Blue mix, currently have a Maine Coon mix and a Ragdoll mix. I would say the description of all of these are very accurate in the video. My RB mix was my first cat and she was the sweetest, absolute best cat ever. She was very smart and patient with me as a child.

I recently adopted a Bengal mix and agree they’re probably not the best for first time pet owners or people who spend a lot of time outside the house. They’re very sweet but require a ton of attention and are very active. She’s super smart so she gets bored/naughty if she doesn’t get enough interaction. That said, I absolutely adore her. As an experienced cat owner, I often find I develop a deeper bond with the more challenging kitties.

My family had a siamese cat when I was growing up. She lived to be 21. She was a fun and playful cat, but VERY vocal. Her voice was very loud, much more so than other breeds of cats. The narrator didn't mention how vocal and loud siamese cats are.

I had a Burmese who was very affectionate, but they don’t have such a loud voice. They also come in pointed coat colors! He followed me everywhere, like a dog. We even had to put a litter box in the bathroom because he wouldn’t be shut out. When he was old, he would wait for me to use the facilities so he could come with me. That’s how much they dislike being alone. That’s why I got him a kitten, whom he loved. It’s best to get a smaller companion, as they run small and could be pushed around. He was an excellent cuddler! Pointed cats are what many are looking for in a Siamese, so those who don’t like constant loud chatter might consider a Champagne Burmese (brown points on cream to tan fur).

@mangamama9881
@mangamama9881 2 жыл бұрын
I would do that. It's just near impossible for me. If you get a kitten (which I would prefer because I have a toddler and I would like them to grow up together and not fear my son being attached and losing the cat earlier than expected) you need to get 2 unless you have 1 cat at home already. If you get an elderly cat they either don't like children, don't want to live in a family that goes to work a bit or they're already coming in with health problems. If I was in the position to I would adopt elderly cats. Simply because I can't stand it when animals lose their owners or are pushed away. I adopted from a shelter before (a guinea pig that was given up due to small income of the owners) and he is so happy now with me and my piggies and my son loves him. Since my son is so far very good with animals I would love to always have a pet so he can learn how to properly take care of a pet because it's very important to me that he treats animals well and with love and respect. My guinea pigs are turning 6 this year and though they're still all healthy and happy... They don't have the life span of cats or dogs..... due to work and my fear of dogs we can't get a dog though. I don't know but I will try and see if I can get a cat (from a shelter or people I really trust with pets) but I feel like I won't have any more pets ever

I'm a first time cat owner and I chose a Sphynx as my first pet, but I was very thorough with my research so I went in well prepped for my girl being high maintenance. If you get one prepare to be the centre of their entire world, they will want to play and snuggle with you more than anything and the video is right that they need a LOT of attention. They're a really dog-like cat breed and are endlessly clever and entertaining, I wouldn't change my goofy girl for the world, every day is an adventure with her.

I have a Siamese (long haired) as my first cat. She’s about a year old now and is incredibly intelligent. She loves to play fetch and “hunt.” She is great with our dogs and loves people. When we come home, she runs to the door just like the dogs. But she loves attention and gets jealous when the kids or other dogs get attention. She complains by meowing loudly and will get into trouble when she is bored. She gets into everything! But because we are used to dogs, she is a great cat for us.

Best kind of cat to get for a first time cat owner: get an older cat whose personality and needs are already known That's the only thing I always suggest. Being a certain breed doesn't immediately mean they are all the same, they have very different personalities and needs and you never really know what you get when you get a kitten. My first cat was 4 when we adopted him, we knew exactly what kind of cat he was and he was a perfect fit for us and we for him. Now he is 17 and we could learn to care for a cat on an easy cat first before then later adopting a feral kitten when he was 7 and even a few years later when I eventually moved out and in with my partner adopt two bengal cats.

The point of breeds is that they will have similar, predictable temperaments & activity levels on average. eg: "Persian and ragdoll temperament is a lot calmer and open to people than, say, angoras or vans." or "bengal average activity is much higher than British SH/LHs or Persians." These are due to genetic factors, so the cat's breed gives a very good idea on what its temperament will be like. Most well-bred cats stick to their breeds' characteristics. Just for comparison, in the dog-world it would be absurd to see a genetically 'reactive' golden, as apposed to tosas which were bred for such. Cats bred for their gentle nature, (ie. ragdolls, BSHs, persians etc.) still consistently score a higher average level of "friendliness" than those that have not. There have been 5 or so studies on variation of behaviour within cat breeds, and all of them have produced similar results. Breed similarity is in fact very consistent - the only inconsistency you get is with mixed breeds/moggies because there are too many factors and too much variation to accurately predict. Some are ____, others are ____ - as apposed to a breed where the majority are ____.

He looks about 100%, but listening to you describe their personality traits........ you nailed him. That cat is so extra! He's way too smart. He needed so much attention as a kitten that me and my older cat couldn't keep him entertained. I had to get him his own kitten. It worked out beautifully. I was lucky enough to have a Momma cat and her kittens. They were hiding under the concrete front steps to my daughter's house. Momma had seven kittens - they weren't feral and Momma had obviously been loved at some point. She got used to me and allowed me to stroke her so that I was soon able to capture all eight. I had no previous experience with cats and so it was an adventure to say the least. I loved every second of the chaos that ensued. The vet's assistant adopted one and I adopted two and the rest, Momma + 4 went to a no-kill shelter. The ones I took were an American shorthair and his sister a Bombay. The rest were tabbies: two grays (like Momma) and two oranges. Bottom line: Changed my life!

I'm not quite sure if you can already say/be so sure of, that you'll never get another breed than a Persian with just 1-year experience. While yes, most Persian personalities are awesome, every Persian still has their own personas and they can vary. However, 1 year is no time and just you wait another 10 years or less and you will eventually see Persian's health problems. They are prone to breathing, eye, fur, teeth, and heart issues. Due to, short snout, narrow nose/air & tear-ways, big eyes leak tears more, their fur becomes easily matted, most have genetically bad teeth/a quick increase of tartar and an inherent heart deficiency or later in life can get a heart murmur sooner than most breeds (anything other than Persian/BSH/Birma related). While their personalities are a dream, if it weren't for the smushed face and the many issues they can have, a Persian would be one of the best breeds to own. I'm a vet nurse, btw, so sadly I have seen my fair share of Persian issues over the years.

I have 3 adult maine coons and am awaiting 4 kittens next month ! Yes you are so right about maine coons, they are very time consuming. As a cat haver you will have to put a LOOT of time and passion into them. Since they are very active, each of them needs at least 2 hours of your FULL attention- with the girl I am playing nonstop, with the boys I go outside on a leash everyday for 2 - 3 hours. Also since they are very big, its difficult to hold them - they weigh as much as a 5-7 year old child ! And the grooming -.....lets not talk about that. They get matts. A lot. And ppl who say that that won't be a Problem and they will take care - No. NO. They fur is a Problem. No matter what you say Gladly for me its not that of a Problem. I literally grew up on a farm with cows, pigs, chicken, dogs, cats etc. My whole life I've had animals I've taken care of. They are my best friends. Nowadays im only taking care of my 3 maine coons, the 2 parrots of my grandma and the wild birds outside - I change the feeding stations outside everyday. But that is still something you have to commit to. There can't be no lazy days -

My advice: Dont start with a kitten. Go to the shelter, tell them about ur living circumstance, so they know, what kind of cat would suit that (indoor, outdoor etc), tell them what kind of personality u would like - selfsufficient, social, whatever fits ur personality. In my experience, breed doesnt really matter, cats have personalities just like human, u need to find a cat to fit ur personality and ofc ur living situation (u cant have a farm mouse catcher as an appartment cat). Works for me, and as a bonus I get to give a home and a loving family to a rescue.

My first cats were a Persian and a Birman both were really lovely cats, now I have a Ragdoll who is super needy, naughty, affectionate and he loves us deeply. All of them have came from breeders but each one does have a story to tell. Louie the Persian was set on the table and he went straight to dad, he was the one that Louie was bought for. Mum brought Etoile the Birman before he was even born. His breeder knew from the day he opened his eyes that he was meant to be with Mum. He had old eyes for a kitten. When we first got Cosmo the Ragdoll he was shy, there wasn’t much there but when we got home we put him on the couch and he just settled in, like he owned the place. Yes you should get cats from the shelter but breeded cats are special too.

Shelter cats for the win! Most of the time the breed doesn't matter (unless you want the pure bred trait). Cat's are cats and they're attitudes and personalities will be shaped by how you interact with it. The cat will train you too for it's needs. Just try to be conscious of what you're pet is asking for.

Russian Blues are awesome cats for first-time cat owners and are such clowns that they'll make you laugh even as they get into things they really shouldn't. Mine doesn't just get on the kitchen counter. She gets on the wall cabinets above the counter and struts around looking all pleased with her self. They are also really healthy. Also the Nebelung (in essence a long-haired Russian Blue) are amazing. They don't require a lot of grooming. Mine is a lot more docile than my Russian Blue, though that may be just the cat and not the breed. She is more sneaky in her bad behavior though. Where my Russian will proudly proclaim that she has done something she isn't supposed to, my Nebelung will hide the evidence or attempt to put the blame on her 'sister'. Except when she wants to show just how clever she has been and comes running into the living room with a bit of my collector Lego in her mouth to give to me as a 'present'. She's very pleased with herself then.

honestly all cats can be great breeds, each cat has their own personality. i have 3 cats, all different breeds, tho they all fit under the domestic shorthair. and they all have wildly different personalities. 1. a 6 year old male tuxedo, he loves to be picked up even tho he's a bit of a cow. loves being petted. 2. 5 year old domestic short hair common breed, elune she does not like being picked up, she will tolerate it for a few seconds, but she will claw your eyes out if you hold her to long. and is a little weary of people. 3 a year old domestic short hair chocolate. she is obviously a kitten still. but she does not like being picked up, tho she absolutely loves being petted. to the point if you pet her, she just flops on her side like a sack of potatoes and purs loudly. that's why i don't really take breed into account as all cats, from Russian blues to orientals to maine coons, have their own personalities.

I have a persian mix (no clue what else he is but he has a squirrel-like tail and a doll-faced persian-looking face, not flat) who cannot go without being held for a few hours. I haven't had a cat for 10 years so he's technically like my first cat. He's so lovely and the only bad thing about him is that he needs to be brushed a lot and is very needy (not a problem since Im always available to hug him)

Different cats, like different dogs, and different people, have different personalities. Some cats like being held for a short time, others hate it. Some cats enjoy love-biting their owners, others are shy and prefer to run and hide in the closet or under the bed. A lot can also depend on how the kitten is raised and trained. Cats do not easily forget. As to grooming, the longer-haired the breed, the more grooming it needs, especially if it has an undercoat. Persians are gorgeous when well taken care of, but notorious for needing extensive grooming.

My best friend had a creamy white Persian named Azzie. (Sir Aztec.) He was such a gentle, laid back and very tolerant gentleman. (Though he did dislike having baths.. He never ever lashed out. He just wanted to be comforted though the process.) Sadly he ran away... Helen was heartbroken.. We searched all afternoon.. but sadly, we never did find him. (He was old. from memory he was 18 - 19 years of age...) So I reckon he went off to pass peacefully away from us to spare us the pain. (Felines often do so.) Their last cat when Helen and I were young... Polly.. was a feral and never really liked them.. she left one day and never came back. My other friend Caroline had a shorthair named Crumpet.. crystal white. She originally was her sisters cat but she adopted her when her sister went to live overseas. She sadly passed only a month or so ago in her sleep. Now she has another shorthair Taby named Caspian. (Who she adopted from the animal shelter she has been volunteering at.) He is a cheeky little terror... yet I am sure he'll mature into a loving companion for her. (as she has both Aspergers and Bi polar.) My auntie and uncle's feral tuxedo short haired cat Miles was such a pain in the ass when he was young.. (scratching and hissing... etc.) but at the older ages he became a loving and excepting companion. (he lived to 24!) Then there was Gin Gin.. a short haired tortershell lass who was much the same in her early years but calmed down and was always looking forward to me visiting. She passed at the age of 17. Another family friend has a cat named Sapphire.. A Burmese miss who got along with the two past German shepherds Rony and Jessie. Very calm and very snuggly. My neighbour's cat (who I have nicknamed Pixie.) A very eye catching calico kitty.. sometimes greets me outside my house as she roams around. (I do get worried for her.. My dog almost killed her by cornering her in our knocked down wheelie bin.. as she had come into our yard...) I find it very sad and rather frustrating that her owners act like they dont give a shit about her safety. Before they got her, they had another calico cat who ended up bringing her 4 kittens into our backyard from their house! Kittens under our caravan! (luckily our dog was blocked off from that side at night!) We approached them but they didn't want the kittens or their mother any more.. So I took them to the animal shelter I was volunteering at. (They were all happily adopted by loving people.) But those bastards attitudes still pissed me off big time. I don't think I would be ever inclined to own a cat (I am more of a dog person.) If I get my next pup and decide to get a cat also? Maybe.. (as they can grow up together and such.) Working in the cattery at the shelter gave me more of a chance to bond with them. :)

I have a domestic short hair named Tabby on July 7, 2011! I love her very dearly and very much! Her fur color is Tabby/Calico, something like that. Her personality is playful, loving, and gentle. We were told if Tabby doesn’t eat much, it is normal, and that she can’t be washed the next 10 days. We were told she is 10 weeks old! Her name was inspired the fur color she has. She acts like our house floor is a race track 😅 she is so sweet 🥺 Tabby was free since the shelter we got her, cats and kittens are free until July 31. Not the most affectionate but she rubs her head when I give her kisses, she also gives me a little peck, she also climbs on me when sitting down tho. I love her very much and hope she doesn’t go missing or die like my last 2 outdoor cats that I got before Tabby. One was Lucky, who disappeared all of a sudden! And then there was Sammy, who was found dead 😭 They were not like adopted by me but they were like my very own :( Sammy died at a young age, prob around a couple weeks old 😭😭 I hope they are in a better place 😢 I love Tabby very much and hope I don’t lose her the way I lost my 2 other kittens ♡シ

Norwegian Forest cats, and mixed breeds with Norwegian Forest cat in their lineage, are great cats. Intelligent, some of the most loving cats out there, and other than the grooming I wouldn't say that they are high maintenance. Though as the video say, you need to spend quality time with them. My family had several during my childhood, and my cat of more than a decade had some Norwegian Forest cat in him, though I had to put him down due to kidney issues in march this year. Only cat I've ever known to give hugs. I remember back when I was a kid and I was sick with a bad fever and one of our Norwegians did his best to take care of me, keeping me company more than he would normally and grooming my hair. He'd never groomed any of us before that. He was also smart enough to figure out how to open the front door.

because you know what you're gonna live with. If you live in an apartment and don't have much time to play with your cat you can't get a cat from a shelter. You should get the "lazy" one which id for exaple Ragdoll, British or Persian. Same with dogs. Every breed has their specific personalities and almost every time you know the pet's character before you get one...And some people need it, especially first owners....

I get a Siberian 7 years ago and it was my first cat. She is the best cat I can think of. I'm working 13 to 15 hours a day, and she is so calm and relaxed. I groom her and Play with her before I go to work. When I came home, we eat and then I play with her and I groom her. When I go to bed, she comes with me and sleep with me^^. And the best, when my Cat has to go to the Vet, my Chef has nothing against it. I can always leave work, when I have to^^. And when I'm not at work, she spend all the time with me^^! She's the whole time around me, we play, we run and we has so much fun^^! So yes when you are working, you must take time for the cat and this means you have not many time to sleep, but to be honest, even friends of mine, who are knowing more about cats than me, they always said, they don't know a better cat for me and my worktime ,than Sammy (my Cat^^).

Super obsessed about routine and very possessive not even mentioning how sad for them is the fact that they need constant “annoyance” from owner with daily cleaning of eyes (dust in litter), gunk in ears and the brownish sweat they produce. Plus diarrhea is a constant in their genes. Please don’t encourage the breeding of this cat.

You don't need to comb Maine Coon cats /long haired cats period. But like once a week. Not every day they'd be bald. People who claim they shed alot. Are full of total BS. They really only shed in spring then get thicker heavier coats when late Oct / Nov hits. Depending on the type of winters you have, or even if you do have actual winters? If you live in the east coast or mid west. The west or south I don't know if they even get winter coats. Unless their indoor/outdoor cats of any breed. Then of course you need to comb them more.
