I was always a dog man, never once considered a cat. My daughter approached me asking for a cat. Initially I was point blank refusing this request. As always she won me round on the basis that she took care, feed and everything else it required. 1 week later kitten arrives and I am smitten, 🥰she was such a little mite I began to care for her like another child. 2 1/2 years later and she is my cat, comes to me when I whistle and cuddles up in bed with me and the wife. She also has 2 friends, a bulldog and whippet. They all get along so well and now she has developed some canine traits.

I had a sweet little boy just like Dorayaki, looked identical. I have never seen a cat so sweet tempered, exceptionally smart and friendly like him in my life. We always shared food, we were hunting buddies for life. He became my best friend and all was well until we moved to a new home, as during moving he started to have urinating problems. I took him to the vet always, they drained his bladder and and cleared everything, it was always 500e per visit. During the following year we had these visits almost every month, and finally the vet suggested that we make a penis removal surgery for him to stop the problem cycle. This was done, I was with him the whole time and nurtured him every step of the way until he was back to normal. I fed him from hand little by little, my small patient became healthier and finally back to normal. I was so happy to see him strong and healthy again, he even noticed this himself and occasionally tested how strong he was, and I could see from his eyes that he was so happy to feel good again. It was music to my ears to hear him pee strong and it was like a shower was turned on when he went in his box. This however did not last long, as while I was away one day, he had found a Christmas present that had this curly string attached to it. He ate about 1.4 meters of it and I had no idea. I know very well that if he finds any type of string, he will eat it, and I was always very careful about it and anything like that was always in a controlled location where he cannot find it. I was as careful as I could be, but he was smarter, he was always very smart, highly intelligent. He saw me put the present in a closet and he remembered it. He found his way there (which I am unsure how he actually got there) and did this. I started to suspect something was wrong only when he started to vomit, and I checked everything, and to my horror saw what he had done. I rushed him to the vet, they made an emergency operation and removed the string. They had to cut his intestine from four places to remove it all, it had already gone too far. One small mistake however was his doom. During the surgery, they told me that he started to vomit a bit, and a small drop of vomit flew on in the open wound. They cleaned it, however after two days of the operation, he died due to this. I blame myself, I had always told everyone not to give me Christmas presents, I am Buddhist and I do not want anything, but one of my friends gave me a present and that was the only one. If I had just refused it, my best friend would be alive today. I have not gotten over this, his little paw was so deep in my heart that it broke me totally. Please keep these kind of object away from your cat and do not underestimate how smart the British Shorthair can be.

Very sorry for your loss, such an unfortunate incident. Was your cat having urinary/kidney problem prior to the first surgery? Did your vet prescribe certain diet for him after the surgery?
@miscme7116 Жыл бұрын
@@jojoanggono3229 Only during and after the move to a new home he started to have urinary problems, it started on the last day of the move. The vet explained that the stress of so much changing in the home could have triggered a stress reaction and caused it. Before this for three years, no problem at all. The dry food was identified as being a problem, it was changed to a urinary type dry food and given only in small batches. I tried with different kinds of wet food, the urinary wet food was rejected altogether. The vet visits continued until the penis removal operation. After that I experimented more and I found a real hit from raw pre-cut chicken. He started to drink also less water after the move (maybe the water tasted different in that area), so that could have made the issue worse. So I started to give the raw chicken in such way that it is sitting in ample amount of water. He just loved it and ate always everything, drank all the chicken water until the last drop, literally. He used to come back to the bowl just to lick the dry empty bowl, it was so tasty to him. This became his main and only diet, and after that the urinary problems did not appear again for a year, until the fatal event after he turned 4 years.

Very independent but they have their attention seeking moments and will purposely cry for me to go find them to love on them. Lol. ❤️

@Erdf3542 I hear Scottish are usually more dependent than British but not mine. My Scottish Straight is very shy and independent. Sometimes a loner really until the Britishes are sleeping then his personality comes out. When he is ready for affection and attention, he meows until you go to him to give him lots of love and affection and playtime. He always gives eye contact and makes air biscuits during these times. I sometimes wonder, though, if he is like this because he lives in his older half brother's shadow, the British. 🤔 all in all, they are all lovely and I wouldn't trade them for anything! ❤️

@@TheCatButler They had a great retired lady as their first person. I believe her life revolved around those cats. They had been so well-loved, socialized. and catered to…I could tell. I wish I could thank her! They were the most loving cats I ever had. They helped raise my kitten, and he became little they were (only a lot more active too, throughout his life). He just passed away last Fall and I miss him! But he found a kitten lost outside and raised her for me. My last link to my BSHs! You might think I’m crazy, but one night he was sick again (he struggled with kidney disease, his last 4 1/2 years), and I woke up in the night when I heard a cat jump from the dresser to my pillow. A few moments later, I heard it jump off the bed and pad out of the room. I immediately called my two cats, and realized they were snoring and sleeping on top of me. Then I remembered my blue BSH used to hang out on the dresser all evening, then jump to my pillow at bedtime every night. The next morning, we took him to the vet and they said he had entered the terminal phase. Normally, I would have broken down but I felt almost prepared for the news. I had never believed in ghost pets or whatever, but I heard and felt a cat! And that was Chessie’s area (both the dresser and the pillow). Her sister went before her. Her best friend she left behind (sick boy, Signal) would never sleep in her spot at the head of the bed, even after she was gone. Maybe they don’t really leave us. I hope not…I would really love to see them again! For now, I’ve got the 3 year old “kitten” raised by the cat raised by my BSH pair! 💙. And they did pass down the cuddling in bed, but no one did it like my two live Teddy 🧸😻 cats.

Great video, I have two British Shorthairs, a Blue and a Black both with huge, bright amber eyes. I have always had cats (for over 50 years) but never previously a pedigree breed. The two I have were rescue cats and have now lived in my home for two and a half years, both being around 5 and 4 years old respectively when we acquired them from a local cat rescue centre. The Blue (Luna, or 'comedy cat') is exactly as you describe but does enjoy sitting on my lap for fuss and attention. The Black (Lenny or 'crazy cat') is more active, very vocal and likes to play. Although he clearly enjoys being near to 'his human hosts' and will sit as close as possible to either me or my wife, he never sits on laps and as with his sister endures being picked up only under protest. However, both are very affectionate and love attention, they are also really friendly towards visitors including our daughter's Great Dane who totally respects that this is the cat's domaine and presents as being somewhat intimidated by them; very amusing to watch! I am totally 'converted' to British Shorthairs and recommend the breed to any prospective, or 'seasoned' cat 'owner'; I'm not sure you ever really 'own' a cat, they merely choose to stay with you if the environment is to their liking! Arguably, the only (slight) downside to this breed is the amount of fur they shed but they are truly beautiful cats in every respect.

Her name is Merlin a beautiful 5 year old rescue. Her characteristics and proportions are the same (chubby face too) and has the green eyes and is "marble" colored. She unfortunately does not like being held, she likes belly rubs, likes to play and is a talker. She has super soft fur too, our last cats were soft but she is super soft. Compared to the other cats we had, she is quirky. I get concerned that she lays around a little too much but I am less worried about that now that I have watched this video. We will be playing more. Still a bit skittish, but always wants petted and massaged, and daily thorough brushing. I don't dare try to pick him up yet, but that is probably 2-3 weeks away. Now, he rarely leaves my side. So, the wait has been worthwhile.

Mine is also my first ever cat and is now 2 years old. He likes to follow me everywhere and stay with me if I do something but will not cuddle or sit on my lap as described in the video. He is not a house cat and does burn fat outside however. He has never knocked anything over and is very good boy even though he was mistreated badly as a little kitten by very young children in a household I rescued him from. It is a brown tabby which along with the silver tabby I find the most attractive variant (the silver tabby features prominently on a few cat food brands here in Germany) and in my opinion should have been included in your visual reel. Like your video says he dislikes getting picked up and also is a rather quiet cat (rarely communicates). He has the very peculiar habit of curling his tail like a pug and likes to get vigorous pats on his back way more than, petting, scratching or any other firm of sign of affection from me. This video represents the breed very well in my opinion and is a great primer for what you get when going for this breed.

Just before the wormhole closed, a dog jumped through to be with his master. From this point on, man and dog were linked in history together. Dog became man's best friend. As time passed, man began to farm and live in houses. Cat lived in the wild and did not interact with man. After a short amount of time had passed, man and cat met, and through a mutually beneficial relationship, man let cat stay on the land and cat protected the food supply from rodents. It was not long before a loving bond formed between man and cat. Man brought cat into the home. Cat continued to protect the food supply. When man relaxed, cat would lay on man"s lap and cuddle. Cat became family. In the time of today, man, dog, and cat reside together. Cat may not be man's best friend, but cat is family. It is common to say, "This is my dog, and this is the family cat. Thing is, I have a summer house in the middle of a forest. When I took her there the first time she just instantly left, despite my attempts at cat-proofing. And she didn't go very far, I saw her around, laying in the shadows behind the house or on a big rock by the outhouse in the evening. She was so close but she was really afraid of hands for a very long time so I knew I had no chance of catching her. I put out food for her but she didn't eat. I rigged a trap that I borrowed from a friend with chicken every day but she didn't care for it. Then one evening just as I was starting to accept that I would have to leave her there and go home, I found her inside the house. After I had closed the doors for the evening. So I just picked her up and went home.

My cat, Trapp, acts exactly like Doriyaki😂. My kitty, Trapp, looks very similar to the shorthair breed of cats but I accidentally found Trapp on the side of a road at night. I just noticed that many of Trapp’s photos saved in My Photos Gallery on my iPhone, which is my first and only iPhone ever, and I see that possibly this iPhone might have an AI(?) feature bc all pics of my cat have a label under them that I never put there that notates the image of my cat looks like an “American Shortail.” That is how I found this video so I could learn about this breed. I have to agree that Trapp looks, acts, eats, weighs, and meets the same exact identifying factors as of beautiful Dorayaki, but my cat is not from a breeder nor a pedigreed bloodline…..just a regular alley cat kitten who happened to be found alone while it’s city street mother feral cat was away, or hiding nearby watching me as I approached her little baby kitten and she might’ve been too scared to approach the new situation. (I believe that maybe momma cat was moving her litter babies across the 4-lane boulevard and this might’ve been the last one, the one I heard crying out and alone😭. Anyway, about Dorayaki opening doors! I’d be very worried if Trapp learned how to open door atw, albeit, when the door is not atw shut he has patiently figured out by carefully taking his paws and claws and putting them either in the crack under the door OR the side edge of a door not atw closed and use little cat-sized “pulls” with his paws/claws until the door is open enough for him to squeeze his big round head, and then, his shoulders until he’s accomplished the mission to freedom. I love my cat, and, he is very spoiled but not rotten all of the time, lol. Trappkitty is the very first cat I’ve ever lived with and owned in all of my 56 years. By happenstance, I found him at approx 2 weeks old beside the curb 1 foot away from the 4 lane boulevard I was driving on. While stopped at a red light, I heard something like an injured tiny animal crying or wailing out for mama. After I pulled over 2 blocks away and backtracked in the darkness, I was surprised to have located him in a large tuft of grass that was beside an old wooden telephone pole. He sat there still, as quiet as a church mouse then, and just looked up at me, with 1 eye infected and runny. As I looked back at him, the only words that came out of my mouth were “Oh my God, what are u doing out here all by yourself?” And he just kept looking up at me with “those eyes👀” that immediately and magically just grab onto ur heart and entire being and that’s when u know that no matter what, this little baby will never ever worry or want for anything ever again for as long as he lives bc he just lucked out with the winning lottery ticket to be found by someone who’s been a PETA member +20 years and had no pets or “fur babies.” I wasn’t looking for a pet bc I’m disabled plus I’ve always been highly deathly allergic and sensitive specially to cats. But Trapp has never triggered any allergies to me, nor anyone else who lives or visits us. God works in mysterious ways, and Trapp is not only a blessing in my life but he has been, by example in many ways, that proves to me that God does exist bc many collective things I’ve experienced with my cat cannot be just pure irony. Thank you for reading as I just went off subject about beautiful shorthair Dorayaki into & over sharing (lol) about Trapp and my story, but it’s very happy God Bless*m ❤🥰🐱

Does anyone know how are they with long traveling? Like 12hrs flight couple of times per year. I want to get this cat but i would have to take it with me while traveling.
@TheCatButler2 ай бұрын
I think it depends on the cat. I recently just came back from the cat show and a lot of British Short Hairs traveled well! Ask the breeder which she thinks out of the litter would travel well.

British shorthair’s personality is so different from a ragdoll’s. My cats are polar opposites. The British is so hyper and crazy while the ragdoll is so laid back and chill. The British bullies my ragdoll all day long 😂

@@meherenow i see. Mine got crazier as he grew. He is over 1 year now and the craziest he has been lol. Maybe it’s cause we got another cat. And in big part because we cured him from FIP last year. So his energy came out once he started feeling better

Good day to you, Do you know of a remote control strobe light and maybe an audible becon on a pet collar? I have seen shocking dog collars, but that is not what I want. God forbid there is a fire or Ollie gets out. It would be nice to have a 2 button remote. 1 button activates a bright strobe, and the 2nd sounds a beep. To minimise the possibility of scaring Ollie, the beep would be able to be turned off. In a smoky room, a strobe and becon may assist rescue. I have looked at making one myself, but I do not have the skill set. Perhaps you know of where I can buy something like this? I watch you video of when your kitty jumped from your bike and I drop tears. Thank you so much.

Aww if the British short hair was more clingy and active it would be the perfect cat for me, especially considering that my m loves them more than other cats breeds😭

Indeed, where I live, a pedigree BSH starts from $1500, up to $4000 for exotic colour and pattern.
