I've had Abyssinians since 1989 and what I hate about getting old is I don't think I'll get another when my two current darlings pass. They are only 10 and 11 this year so I'll have them for a while longer. I love them so much that I can hardly bear the thought of not having them. I do love all cats but there is something very special about the Aby. >^-^

@@thomasashe2681 My little male, Archie, loves to lie next to my knees most of the time and at night lies on top or next to me. My female, Phoebe, will occasionally but since Archie has the spot she just sits nearby. Both love to give "head-butts" , face rubs and kisses. However, like people all cats are different. Most of my Aby's weren't lap sitters. One did start lap sitting after she was 10yr old and did so until she passed. All, even though they didn't sit on me were always near and had their eye on me. I may not even been able to see them but they appeared and followed me when I was on the move. They are THE most delightful creatures. When I went to purchase Archie, he picked me. He was only 9wk old but the other siblings weren't even paying any attention to me and he came over to interact and he really was the affectionate little fellow he presented as a baby.

@@thomasashe2681 All cats should have a companion so that they won't be lonely if they have to be left all day. Almost all cats do like cat companions. I always worked at home so I had all day interaction with them. If by themselves they will sleep all day and keep you awake at night as will any cat . Of course, the more time and affection you can give them, the more they will reciprocate but they are by nature of the breed, very affectionate. They are precious companions. I love cats but these guys are really something and I actually feel blessed to have discovered them. Blessings, p

@@thomasashe2681 They are very dependant on their humans for entertainment and affection. They bond with people very heavily and require a lot of stimulation. If you're out of the house a lot they might not be the right breed for you. Ours follow us around like puppies and always want to be doing what we're doing or playing with us. One of ours gets so stressed out if we're gone for long that he'll overgroom.

I have an Abby and she is really affectionate. She loves to sleep on my lap, cuddle and get belly rubs. She also loves to be picked up by me, sometimes she even lift up her arms. She starts purring when I carry her around like a baby 😅 Most of the time she is very calm and doesn‘t like too much action. Of course she appreciates playtime but she‘s not demanding it all the time. She has access to my large balcony but in the winter time it‘s not that interesting to her. She‘s very intelligent and knows a few tricks I‘ve tought her with clicker training. Greetings from Germany ♥️

My Abyssinian, who is now 10, has the Caliche Virus. He doesn't seem to have had any symptoms apart from the fact he had to have most of his teeth out at quite a young age because of tooth reabsorbtion - where the teeth initially breakdown below the gum line. He now has to have the several remaining teeth removed. My real question is - did my cat have calcivirus when I got him as a kitten from a registered breeder. Who I did contact at the time to enquire if that was a possibility - as our kitten did not go out or be in contact with other cats. The response was minimal, but I was told that there was no such trait in any other cats including the kittens parents. I am interested to know if anyone else has had similar experiences?

The Abys are gorgeous cats to look at, actually they are considered one of the supermodels of the cat world but it stops there for they are also like a 2 year old toddler on a sugar high that you will have to deal with for the next 12 to 15 years but they are oh so lovable when "they" want to be. You will have to of course neuter/spay them (responsible breeders of purebred usually will make you sign a no breeding contract anyways) and please do not declaw them. A very good and very tall cat tree or two with several scratching posts plus quality interactive toys around your house or condo would be just fine to keep them and you happy. I would personally feed them a high protein, low carb , no grain diet and make sure to have at least one good sized, clean and low dust liter box per floor.

If it was called the British cat or Scottish cat,you wouldn't hesitate to confirm that it's a European cat,but since it's African,the ambiguity takes place with "no one really knows its origin" even when it's name is its origin. This is a cat seen with the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt which is an African cat. Just like the Pharaohs' dog "Basenji" that everyone always seem not to know the origin evening when it's the popular breed on the African continent that hunters use and every family has had one.
@matthewcoombs3282 Жыл бұрын
Very likely to be African. Just by looking at it, its body shape and head match those of statues of ancient Egyptian cats and also wild cats still native to Northern and Eastern Africa. It is the most beautiful of all cat breeds.

Pedigree Abys from legitimate and conscientious breeders require DNA testing of all their breeding cats. They focus on caring for the Health and Happiness of those Queens and Studs and Kittens in their homes. The cost of a well-cared-for and socialized Aby is MUCH more than what you have written and stated in this video. In the USA and Canada, a reputable breeder charges $2500-$3500 for a pet kitten. And don't think they are ripping you off, you pay for what you get. They genetically test all their cats, and they feed them the very best food for their health and growth. All kitties receive regular vet care. They do not overbreed queens, and all their breeding cats should be healthy and well cared for. You should expect your kitten to not come home before 14-16 weeks of age. You should also expect the breeder to have had the kittens given their core vaccine series and have been kept in a clean and healthy home environment, very well socialized, and naturally weaned. You should also expect the breeder to have the kittens spayed or neutered before they come home to you. You should not expect the breeder's home to be overrun with cats or their smell. Abys are very clean and if a breeder's home smells like cat urine and fecal matter, RUN. Kittens should come with a genetic health guarantee, they should not come sick. You should expect to have a face-to-face transaction and never pay for something you have not seen in real life. Besides websites like CFA or TICA breedlist.com lists only reputable breeders. I am a breeder in CFA and to help people avoid being scammed online I have refused to take deposits. Because of the scams and mills and pet brokers out there that can con you, I highly suggest you find a breeder for an Abyssinian that doesn't take deposits and only does face-to-face transactions.

In Islam, prophet Muhammad ( pbuh) liked an abysinnian cst called muezza. They once performed abulution ( ritual washing before acts of prayers) with the water also used by the cat. Moreover, once the cat was sleeping on their wrapping blanket ( which they used to take to prayers) , so they didn’t disturb the cat but Instead cut the portion around the cat.
