If Caltrans [ Calif. D.O.T. ] was able to rebuild the east span of the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge into an updated design, why can't Maryland D.O.T. do the same for this bridge? Also, what doesn't help for night time drivers is the fact that MD D.O.T. doesn't provide lighting along the spans of this bridge.

Tall bridges all over the world have people afraid to cross. Another 50's era bridge, the Mackinac Bridge between MI's upper and lower peninsula also has some people scared. Me? Definitely not. I've driven over it on a motorcycle, which is really a trip because the middle two lanes are see thru steel grate (it lessens the wind resistance profile of the bridge). So if you look down through that grate while on your bike you see the surface of the water 155' below you. Certainly not for the weak at heart.

Been over it. It's not that bad went over in an 18 wheeler I will take a bridge before a leaking tunnel. It was a pretty view we got stopped on it too it was slow going but it was ok.

The tappanzee bridge in ny is much worse, its got holes in it and exposed rebar. and its a loong way down.
