Y'all know many of these roads look terrifying because of camera angles. My hats off to the camera guys.

0:20 ... This bridge is not anywhere near as terrifying as it seem to be in the photo. This effect is caused by someone taking a picture with a telephoto lens from a far distance away from the bridge. If you look at the bridge from the water (from a right angle, it had a rater gentle slope to the top of maybe about 5 or 6 degrees.

I was going to say that. I live about thirty minutes away from that bridge. The reality of it is that it is rather mundane.

Yer, some entries are idiotic. Tourist hotspot in California.......really, it's no tighter and steeper than you average multideck car park, dam sight more beautiful though. Lot of the world's most dangerous roads are right here in Western Australia. We got one called the Gunbarrel highway, 1,350km or 840mi of desert track. Requirement to drive it, a team of at least 2 Toyota Landcruiser utes, with extra tanks of diesel fuel on the back and drivers with serious off road experience. What gets people in the Australia outback is being 100s of kms away from anything at all, including fresh water, mobile phone reception and any kind of help..

Im from Germany and I’m using the Autobahn daily. A LOT of misinformation here. First how can you compare a gravel mountain road with an infrastructure that’s maintained by billions of euros each year. Second there is an increase of speed limits. Third even if you can drive as fast as you want to in some places doesn’t mean everyone does so.
@lilnitenurse324
@lilnitenurse324 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I was stationed in Germany for 3 years, and I found the autobahn to be very safe compared to the rickety bridges and hairpin turn mountain roads! As long as you don't act stupid, you're just as safe on the autobahn as you are on any other major highway in the rest of the world.
@bellenber
@bellenber 2 жыл бұрын
My experience on the Autobahn is also not in line with this video. There is no speed limit, because vehicles are limited to their performance and tire specifications. If you drive faster than your car mechanically should be going, you get heavily fined, ticketed, and can lose your license. Driving in Germany is very much considered to be a privilege, not a right like it appears in the US. Highway Patrol heavily enforce the Autobahn and the laws that make it so safe to drive on. The only aspect of it I can say is more dangerous than say the Interstate System in the US is that the Autobahn goes directly through towns and cities without separated or divided highways, it's very reminiscent of US Highways that predated the Interstate which was inspired by US Troops utilizing the system in WW2. These zones are also where they step down from Unlimited to 120km/h, to 70km/h, and down as you pass through a town. You are able to just pull off into a corner store or Gasthaus directly from the Autobahn, no interchanges.

All of the money in the world doesn’t mean a road can’t be scary.
@HerSandiness
@HerSandiness 2 жыл бұрын
@@bellenber Sorry, but you are completely wrong about the Autobahne going through towns and cities. That might have been so almost a hundred years ago, but these days, Autobahne go around towns and cities, are very much separated from other roads and there is no going to a Gasthaus or anything else without getting OFF of it. The only thing you can access on modern Autobahne are rest stops that are very much like thw truck stops in the US, with convenience stores, restaurants, gas station, and other coveniences for long-time travelers. If you thought you were going through a town, then chances are, the Autobahn tapered off into a so called Schnellstraße (speed street) and then even further down to a Landstraße (countryside street) LONG before it ever reached that town.
@hydro.pl.27
@hydro.pl.27 Жыл бұрын
@@bellenberIt’s not a right here. It’s more a privilege too but there is much less training and knowledge needed to acquire a drivers license. A CDL is another story same with a motorcycle. But in General it’s easy to do because it all comes down to money. If you make it easy for someone to get a license then they can now go somewhere and spend money. It’s all about dollar.

Well, what can I say - quite a few of the roads and bridges shown, very few of us will ever be on them. However, calling 5 or 6 % a rollercoaster drive is much blown out of proportion. Also, how some of those videos are taken will show unbelievable grades.

Fun fact Magician Chris Angel drove down Lombard St. Blindfolded with a passenger as well. Mind Freak!! Love his work. What about the Pikes Peak race every year? Mostly gravel road climbing the side of Pikes Peak, some parts are paved but, deadly dangerous under normal conditions, but closed during the race. As these speed junkies race up the mountainside at as close to full speed as they can manage. Watch it sometime! The handmade tree bridges are FANTASTIC, BEAUTIFUL uses of natural resources and talent! I admire their skill in construction and dedication to keep them maintained! I was stationed in Germany in the early 80's, and I have driven the Autobahn. There actually is a speed limit on there, its 320km per hour, which is approx. 220 miles per hour. My experiences driving the Autobahn were really HAIRY to say the least, I've almost been run over several times, and when I was there the average accident was/were at least 16 cars per accident. After driving it the first time I completely believed that the average should be WAY higher than that.

I went down a mountain road that was barely wide enough for my car. There was a mountain on the left, steep cliff in the right, and no guard rails. It was a terrifying, hash turns, but fun, road in South Carolina. I can't find it again, no name. I want to go down it again.
