We've heard dozens of different versions of this story with different still photos, and names, but it's weird that noone has ever posted any of the videos shot of "Nan" (this time) and whale #1 or #2 or shark. Nor explained why the two other nearby human bodies in the water NOT worthy of being protected by two huge whales were not the easier shark appetizer. SO many people making a ton of money off repackaging some version of this tired retread of a story, containing every irresistible human interest element, except maybe a puppy.

Years ago I was diving, off the Big Island in Hawaii. I was just hanging out, about ten feet under water, waiting for the dive-master to give me the signal to come to the boat when, out of nowhere, this city bus sized Humpback whale appeared right next to me! About two metres away. She looked right into my eyes then slowly turned to display her compact car sized beautiful little calf! She was showing-off her little baby to me! After a couple seconds, which seemed like hours, they both slipped deep back into the depths. When I got back to the boat everyone on board excitedly asked if I could see the whale. I had no words. It was truly one of the most exciting moments of my life!

That was an awesome story , It is a great example of a cross-species symbiotic interaction. It is also a testament to the Whale's intelligence and strong familial behavior. As a species, whales are very much older than humans and perhaps not so much more intelligent but maybe extremely more WISE than humans in that they have had countless more generations to develope inherent wisdom. They may also look at humans with a measure of gratitude for preventing other humans from slaughtering them. They understand and more importantly, they remember. I would love so much to join the good Doctor or others like her in studying and and documenting natural behavior of creatures in the wild. God bless such people

Amazing! I love whales, and sharks, and dolphins,and anything else that lives in the ocean! I had an encounter with a tiger shark in Truk Lagoon, I guess it is called Chuuk now. So I was diving all the WWII wrecks in the lagoon. My partner and I were in a Japanese Hero (sp?). It was set aside for divers to enter and sit in the pilot seat, take photos, etc. I was in the pilot seat, partner behind me in the back seat. He freaked me out when he started to scream and point to the window. A large grayish eye was staring at me- now I freaked out, but I did not scream out - who wants to draw attention of a tiger shark! He kept on his merry way and he kept passing my window, and passing the window - it seemed like forever to pass the window. He was huge! I cannot tell you how long he was - others who saw this and were hiding in any part of the reef they could said he was 10 feet, no 15 feet. Regardless, it was the most exiting, reverential, and scary encounter I have ever had!!

I actually had spme dolphins swim a little to close for comfort right by me and my kids in Hilton Head SC a couple years ago! Id seen them off the coast in NC too but never in the water that close! It was really amazing to me but it did make me a tad but nervous, being in their territory..🦈🐋🐬

@@krystaldaniels7940 yep. Was body boarding with a buddy(SoCal) about 75 yards out from the shore and we notice these two fins and a human sized shadows get between us and the shore line......needless to say my fucking heart dropped. Never swam so fast in my life, still felt like a lifetime fighting the swell back to shore. When we got to land, we noticed from the shoreline that it was just two curious dolphins. Never been more than hip deep in the ocean again

About 16 years or so I was on a cruise headed to Cabo and I was out on the deck just walking around looking at how beautiful and so serene the waters were as the moon shown down. I saw something out of the corner of my eye and I turned to look and I saw 3 giant whales swimming along side the ship. They would go under water, come up shooting water from their "blow holes" and as I looked around me on the deck I couldn't believe that I was the ONLY person witnessing this incredible event. I just stood there and watched these magnificent creatures swimming beside us. It remains to this day the most incredible and a definite chance of a lifetime. To even say that I was honored is a huge under statement.

What a terrible way to tell the story. And about 3 times longer than necessary. Where are your sources? Why no video of Nan or interviews?

She was frightened because she had never seen anything like that before. She was afraid as she had never in her life experienced something like that. She was fearful because she was witnessing something she hadn't ever witnessed before. She was very scared because she had no idea what would happen since she had never had something like that happen. She was terrified of what could happen because it was something that had never happened to her before.

While halibut fishing in Prince William, Alaska on a 60’ boat, a whale came up within 5’ of it and stayed near while a large pod of about a dozen was feeding about half mile away from us. You really don’t realize the scale until you’re right next to it...the portion sticking out the water was as large as a bus. The captain was great and slowly steered the boat away from the group and we continued to catch our limit.

10 minutes and 39 seconds of my life I will never get back ,going to have to make a mental note of this channel ,its not the first time they have dragged a story out, anyway on to the next KZbin video, hope everyone is having a good day.

I watch or listen to facts verse because 1. The titles catch my attention, 2. I happen to like the narrator’s voice, and 3. I am in control, turn it off if bored or listen to end. So my point: stop making negative remarks or revealing the end before we have a chance to watch, just turn it off if you do not like it.

Great clip. The filler photos are only outmatched by the ads. I guess the Cook Islands have no editors or connection to KZbin.
@michaelpowers92594 жыл бұрын
This editing was confusing. Who is the old blonde lady at the beginning vs the young brunette lady at the end? Why did you intersperse great white sharks during the whale narrative? Nice story but thumbs down.

This channel ALWAYS uses random stock photos in their videos with an occasional actual pic of the people in the story😔
@Shells844 жыл бұрын
Michael Powers exactly. So weird. Most of us knew this would be the story upon clicking in to watch. No need to drag it out like this...and why they changed the woman in the story is beyond annoying. At least use a similar stock photo.

You’re talking about whales and showing an image of a whale SHARK. Not a whale people. You need to get your facts right.

I believe the message was that, though we may be experts in certain animal's behavior, we still aren't totally knowledgeable of the kind of message/conversation the animals are having with us. The best thing about this story is that the whales were even thinking of her safety more than the marine biologist's capability/expertise of protecting them. It's really awesome. I guess it was a necessity for the narrator to design the storytelling this way just to overemphasize that fact. Cool!
