I visited my first disco in 1977 , at the age of 17. I was fresh out of high school. I had the best night of my life dancing. I was young and wanting excitement. I would have loved Studio 54.

Studio 54 was amazing and an eye opener. Nobody carded back then and I as a 15 year old got in and didn’t drink, just danced up a storm. Saw so many things I never should have 😂but what time in my life and memory!

“Beautiful people” must have had a different definition in the 70’s
@radamikАй бұрын
It did. And it consisted mostly of anonymous people who were the real leaders of style, fashion, and living, not celebrities. Of course those people were not memorialized in photos since they weren’t famous so all we generally have now is the record of the well known - I’ve always suspected that the latter went to Studio since they didn’t live in the real world and it was a chance to let them - a very interesting real world, but one where they could feel they were a part and where they could copy the regulars who made the place what it was. It has even been commented on, I forget by who, elitist out on the street and democratic inside the club.

What a different time period, the 60's were about the war, protesting, civil rights, the 70's...NOW IT'S TIME TO PARTY!!! you were not a true celebrity in the 70's unless you went to 54. Sex, cocaine and dancing...the place was a free for all...honestly it was a giant petri dish. A time long gone.

You had to be on an A list just to get in.
@alexkoronec43263 ай бұрын
You forgot about the Club Kids 😮
@radamikАй бұрын
What’s an “A” list? You just had to have a look that they liked. Very likely no or minimum polyester. In 1977 jeans (flared was ok - last year for them), band collared (collarless) shirt, western style belt, and Frye boots. For women below the knee dress or maybe leather jeans. And for both sexes a look of not being too impressed by anything - no star struck nonsense. And of course a look of at least reasonable attractiveness.
@kevinluschak5241Ай бұрын
Being a celeb was certainly a one way free entrance to the place.
@hughjoelcaulk724421 күн бұрын
@@radamik You're talking nonsense about what was "in style" at the time which had F all to do with getting in. You could wear a brown paper bag and get in if they liked what you looked like over all. You did NOT have to wear what was in magazines at the time. What you're talking about was for the run of the mill nite clubs, not an exclusive club like Studio 54.
@radamik10 күн бұрын
You have a point but your comments are not quite accurate. Don’t you think “what you looked like over all” at least partly included what one was wearing - also the “run of the mill” places generally did not allow jeans (which is why I mentioned them) - males were expected to wear that cheesy polyester junk in Saturday Night Fever, which was not and never was in style. The right clothes had to look unexpectedly fresh and had not (obviously) achieved ubiquity. Actually Steve Rubell’s favorite outfit was interesting in itself: jeans and a white polo shirt with a coffee stain on it.

If I could go back to that time and place (and I was an adult then) I would hope to see people I would identify as having a real style and flair to the way they dressed, danced, and conducted themselves. Really couldn’t care less about celebrities who for the most part are just nerds who became inexplicably famous and wealthy. The 70s was a time when regular people could surpass celebrities and their anonymity was a major factor (a concept foreign to today). I shopped several times at Fiorucci on 59th street, called the “daytime” Studio 54 - first store with expensive jeans, cool sweatshirts ( see the cover of November 1978 GQ) - I’m guessing that the decadence was not quite as universal as is now believed, drug use was common but not by everyone, and most people were there to dance, people watch, and show off, at least a little. What is not really mentioned in today’s exploration of that place and era is how the music, thanks to the great sound technology, created such a feeling of euphoria that has never really been equaled (drinking and drugs or no drinking and drugs) - it elevated people to a feeling of being on top of the world. Of course it was too extravagant to last for too long, and as we all know it didn’t.

é por isso que não se deve casar com um artista, a vida deles é só festa solteiro, se for casado da briga, mas a mulher é teimosa, e gosta assim mesmo, depois não sabe por que o seu casamento fracassou
