Close family friend. I broke my collarbone body surfing at his Malibu house when I was 13. He took me to the hospital. I attended the Renaissance Pleasure Faire with he and Sandra (and a bunch of very famous Hollywood folks) in '66 He used to drop by and tune my moms guitar. What a beautiful soul.

I was a 14 yr old when I saw Bobby Darin in England in 1956. He was absolutely fantastic. I have never forgotten that concert and knew he would be a superstar. He died way too young. I think my favorite song was splish splash as that was the first one I ever heard from him. Now I love If I was carpenter. RIP never forgotten.
@lyallg7925Ай бұрын
He is the artist who I would most like to have seen live… as an Aussie born in 1965 I was never going to see him at the Copa, unfortunately. They must have been magic times… Darin and Cooke live at the Copa. If I Were A Carpenter was written by Tim Hardin, but yes Bobby loved that song.

I worked for years with a doctor who was part of a care team at Cedars Sinai Hospital in LA. He said that Daren lived a very fast paced life. This life style along with his heart problems contributed to his early demise. He also thought that the quality of his life and the things he wanted to accomplish were important to him. He wanted the best life he could have and chose not to live like a cardiac cripple. It was his choice and lived the way he wanted to live and contributed so much in his short but extremely incredible life and brought so much though his entertainment. He was one who touched so many in such a positive way. We still miss him

I'm a very big fan of Bobby and I wanna thank you for this video, through which I hope more people will learn about him and his work. One of my favourite songs is "Simple song of freedom" which he wrote and sang himself and also his live cover of "bridge over troubled water" which always makes me cry. A thing I'd like to point out is that he didn't stop singing in 1972! In 1973 he had his own tv show and dozen and dozen of concerts until summer of that year. He loved singing so much he had to stop between songs to take oxigen since he was getting sicker and sicker. He was so ahead of his time, I often wonder what he could have done if only he hadn't died so young. He'll never be forgotten

Bobby had dental work, and because his heart was compromised by childhood rheumatic fever, he was required to take coagulation. For whatever reason, he stopped taking them. So when the time came to do a routine (sort of) valve change operation, he developed septacimia. Thus, his heart rejected the effects of the operation and died during surgery. Make good choices, people.

He always pointed out that he had the same operation as Bobby Darin. Thank goodness he lived about 15 years after his operation. Though he did die young at 59. He also was proud he didn't opt for a pig valve to replace his valve. I think it was John Wayne who had a pig valve as replacement. We're Jewish, so a pig valve would not do! LOL.

This is not correct. Bobby divorced Sandra in 67. He had surgery in early 71 and received 2 artificial heart valves. He recovered and was doing good. Then he had dental surgery in later 73. He was prescribed antibiotics. But he didn't take them. He got sick and an infection in his heart, damaging his heart valves. He recovered from the infection after being in the hospital, and was going to do his tour, but the damage to his heart valves from the infection got worse and put him back in the hospital in December 73. He went into emergency surgery to have them repaired. It took almost 9 hours. He lived through the surgery, but died in the recovery room. He never regained consciousness. 😢
