What if you have an issue with your hands? I hate shaking hands because it really hurts when ppl squeeze my hand just because they want to prove how firmly they can squeeze your hand. I have joint issues. Oh...and germs lol

Dear Renee, thanks for such a great video and tips. I'm from Venezuela, where I worked as a researcher and professor for almost 30 years. My family and I had to escape from the political and humanitarian situation there and arrived in another Latin American Country, where I pursued a PhD thanks to a scholarship from OAS. However, I'll be honest, I'm totally tired of Latin America and want to move to USA or Canada. It's a good idea to mention our situation in the cover letter? Everybody I've consulted says "no". Thanks a lot!

I was asked to interview for a full time instructor position at a CC with only 3 days to prepare! The prompt is very broad ("Discuss the practical application of criminal law"). How do you go from there? I was only given 10 minutes?? I am so afraid of giving them something they don't want. I am tailoring it towards practitioners because that is what the dept. primarily churns out

The Problem with Ms. Marshall's train of thought, speaks volumes on the fact that she has no clue on what it means to struggle. If someone has applied with an older Letter of recommendation, the date is not what should speak to you, it is the content of the recommendation. One cannot expect to have Deans and CEO's write multiple letters of recommendations to each individuals that is requiring the same of them. Its foolishness. The whole concept of a cover letter and references are also absolute nonsense. A person's resume should be the only factor on which one should decide if an interview is warranted or not.

I am currently a junior earning a Bachelor's in Multimedia Journalism expected to graduate in 2025 I am currently 25 years old, I would love to be a college professor teaching in a junior college and a university, I am planning to earn a master's in Media Studies in the future. Hopefully I become a college professor, until then I will be happy, but for now just keep on working and never give up even if I suffere a heart attack and a stroke, the road for my goals is long and hard with boundries along the way, but I can be a college professor, I will not rest until my goals is complete. I love and enjoy teaching in the communication department it will be a pleasure being a communication professor.

Two typos is enough to disqualify a candidate? Being a role model to students has very little to do with your proofreading. Leadership, empathy, and pedagogy are not well correlated to typos. Also, judging resumes based on whether they have a picture is unfair. This is an issue of inequity. Professionalism comes in many forms. To think there is a particular mold of style that is required for professors, is teaching students they must also conform.

Caring about diversity does not just mean accepting different skin colors, it means accepting the backgrounds of your candidates. Who they are is an asset, not an impediment.
