So many people think fostering is simply taking babies in, feeding them occasionally and that’s it. I’ve had three young kittens who needed critical care. I was able to save the middle one by dosing with organic maple syrup every three minutes, alternating with drops of water throughout the nite. After six hours she raised her little head and looked at me which lifted my heart immeasurably. I maintained the protocol and she’s here today, racing around the house. Losing the first baby was heartbreaking and felt worse because it shouldn’t have happened. Another foster had ignored his severe diarrhea until the fur was burned of his tail and hindquarters. I can’t go into detail because I’ll be ruined for the day, but I had him in my arms for two weeks and sobbed from the pain in my heart. My question for you is “where did you find the mask”? I’m a nurse and I know all three needed O2 and felt helpless. Your clip reinforced my thoughts that they can be helped if caught in time. Bless you!!

I've lost a kitten to this syndrome when I was younger.. It was so heartbreaking. The vet that gave us this kitten to adopt was aware of the syndrome but put a cross on that little one's life without even trying to fight for him. It destroyed me as I believed ever since that those kittens with the syndrome were a lost case. So happy to see it isn't. Thank you. I hope Oatmeal is doing well

Would you please update us as to Oatmeal’s progress. Is he still alive? Did he survive? If so, where is he now? Does he have a home with you or somebody else? If he subsequently died of fading kitten syndrome after this video was made, then you can add the lessons that you learned. The methods and medicines that you used and how you applied them to Oatmeal are very useful and educational. Thank you so much for the time, energy, effort and financial resources that you put into trying to save him. The date of me seeing this video is July 1st, 2021. The video was released in November 2020. Thanks. Despite its short length, this is for me, one of the best videos that I have viewed for a long time. It gets straight to the point with no ugly advertising before or in between. I am grateful for that.

I just lost one of my kittens this morning from this 😭. I stayed up with him all night since, despite my efforts, I noticed he just didn't show signs of making it. He wasn't alone when he passed but I've taken it very hard. One of my other kittens is showing signs (they're at the stage where they are starting to wean) so I've immediately started to hand feed him with a mixture of water, a little syrup, and kitten replacement. We're going to call tomorrow and see if my vet will check them and work with us on payments since we're at a hard spot financially with my fiance getting laid off during CoVid and just trying to stay on top of everything. My heart goes out to anyone going through this with their babies. My pain and heartache have been immeasurable so I can imagine anyone else in this position to be feeling the same. Good luck and god speed in regards to everyone else's little babies. My thoughts and prayers are with you ❤❤.

This happened to me at 2:00 a.m with no vet available in my small time. I felt helpess. Despite the milk I had been giving, I found her dead at 4:00. It seemed that my kitten was not digesting appropriately milk. I fed with utmost love during her brief live. I wonder whether she has a soul and whether she perceived my immeasurable love

I found my 9 weeks old kitten in this condition, cold, lightly stiff and not moving… I quickly wrapped her in a towel and placed heat pad underneath, and I gave her 0.2ml - 0.5ml of sugar water every 3 minutes as told. Finally she regained some strength to sit up, move her head around and crawl around slowly.. But now I need to know if I should keep going with the sugar water? Or can I put a stop and expect her to tend to herself?

There are so many jobless bums on the streets around the world. A few less is not going to matter to any of them. Since none of them care for anything but themselves anyway. Cats and kittens are the better species.
@joblessbum7
@joblessbum7 3 жыл бұрын
@@gardenjoy5223 - I have rescued 24 kittens from a short horrible life on the streets and found them all forever homes. Feral cats often live a short horrible life, especially in areas they are not a native species. experiences with trap-alter-and-release programs and “managed” feral cat colonies have led us to believe that these programs are not usually in cats’ best interests. We have seen firsthand and have received countless reports that cats suffer and die gruesome deaths because they are abandoned to fend for themselves outdoors. Many are in “managed” colonies, which usually means that they are fed. Having witnessed the painful deaths of countless feral cats, we cannot in good conscience advocate trapping, altering, and releasing as a humane way to deal with overpopulation and homelessness. Horrific fates await most homeless cats-they do not die of old age. If you have a cat at home, you know that veterinary care is a necessity. Cats get heart disease, leukemia, bladder problems, ear infections, and more. Imagine if your cat were outdoors and you did not know that he or she was in trouble. Or imagine if, upon seeing an obvious symptom, you could not catch your cat to provide treatment. Contagious diseases such as rhinotracheitis, feline AIDS, and rabies are common in “outdoor cats,” who also sustain puncture wounds, broken bones, brain damage, or loss of an eye or limb after they are attacked by other animals or hit by cars. During winter months, automobile engine fans slice through cats who seek shelter from the cold under car hoods. If cats escape these perils, they may still fall prey to an agonizing death at the hands of cruel people. Our office is flooded with calls about cruelty to animals every day because, across the country, free-roaming cats are mutilated, shot, drowned, poisoned, beaten, set on fire, used in ritual sacrifice, stolen by “bunchers” for medical experiments, or used by dogfighters as “bait.” Advocates of trap-alter-and-release programs argue that feral cats are just as deserving of our consideration as other felines and that it is our responsibility to alleviate their suffering and ensure their safety. We absolutely agree. It is precisely because we would never encourage anyone to abandon their own cats in, for example, a parking lot or a warehouse district that we discourage the same for feral cats. Although altering feral cats prevents future generations from suffering, it does not protect cats from the litany of other problems that they may encounter. Allowing feral cats to continue their daily struggle for survival in a hostile environment is rarely a humane option. We believe that it can be marginally acceptable to trap, vaccinate, alter, and release feral cats when the cats are isolated from roads, people, and animals who could harm them, are regularly attended to by people who not only feed them but also provide them with veterinary care, and are kept in areas where they do not have access to wildlife and the weather is temperate. The biggest problem is that most cats, once they are caught to be sterilized, will not be able to be lured by traps again when they are sick or injured. - Ingrid E. Newkirk, PETA President and co-author of Animalkind

@joblessbum7
@joblessbum7 3 жыл бұрын
@@gardenjoy5223 - no, not at all. I did rescue many kittens from the streets because feral cats should not be roaming around in areas where they are not a native species. They are doing irreversible damage to the ecosystem. They are wiping out native species because cats dont just kill for food but for sport. Scientists estimate that between 60 and 160 million feral cats roam the United States. A recent letter to the editor at NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune claimed cats are the "answer to New Orleans' rat problem," and suggested increasing their local numbers. Scientific studies, however, say otherwise. Feral, free-roaming cats have been documented by dozens of studies to be indiscriminate killers of wildlife and the cause of at least 72 species extinctions, according to a 2020 analysis of invasive species impacts (many more species critically endangered). But while the evidence of their hunting prowess is overwhelming, there is little proof that cats are effective at controlling urban rats, which studies have shown are not their primary prey. Outdoor cats also carry a dangerous parasite that has been linked to schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s, memory loss and learning problems. Many Americans support programs to protect wild cats in our midst. Here's what science has to say about why we love a species that might be making us sick. 1. Feral cats are ecological serial killers In our current age, termed the 6th mass extinction by ecologists, we are losing biodiversity faster than ever - between 10 and 100 times faster, scientists estimate. Our support of feral cats, tenacious or tacit, might be among the worst ways humans contribute to this problem. A 2013 study by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute found that free-ranging, domestic cats (mostly unowned) are the single largest human-caused threat to wildlife. A 2011 review of wildlife crises on islands determined that cats helped cause the decline or extinction of 123 species of songbirds, parrots, seabirds and penguins; 25 species of reptiles and 27 species of mammals, including a lemur and a bat. That hurts biodiversity, which has been shown to play a role in food security, the control of infectious disease and successful adaptation to climate change. 2. Feral cats kill for fun, abandoning dead animals that become food for more rats Cats are what scientists call "surplus killers," meaning they kill more prey than they eat. Surplus killing depletes the overall food supply and creates an excess of material for scavenger species, which can transmit diseases from feeding on carcasses, scientists say. Honey badgers, bears, dogs, orcas and other animals also engage in surplus killing. But feral cats are the primary surplus killers in urban environments, while rats are a common urban scavenger. This means that kills by feral cats may directly benefit rats. Scientists at the University of Georgia and The National Geographic Society put cameras on 55 outdoor cats and recorded their activities for seven to 10 days. They found that a third of these cats averaged about two kills per week, and the cats left nearly half of their prey uneaten. The scientists estimated -- based on a conservative tally of 84 million outdoor cats in the country -- that nearly 1.5 billion animals are killed and abandoned by outdoor cats every year. Cats kept primarily indoors were not considered to be part of the problem. The study found each feral cat kills an average 576 native birds, mammals and reptiles per year, while pet cats kill an average of 110 native animals every year - 40 reptiles, 38 birds and 32 mammals. After carefully quantifying cat populations and predation rates (and the uncertainty of both), the scientists calculated that feral cats pounce on one billion to four billion birds a year in the lower 48 states, as well as 6.3 billion to 22.3 billion small mammals and hundreds of millions of reptiles and amphibians. These small animals die from repeated puncture wounds and from being crushed by cats' jaws. Unfortunately, many cats spend a great deal of time playing with their dying, convulsing prey, whose suffering is intense. Many of these animals are then left to die slowly when they stop struggling but remain alive
