FAESER: Islamist murder, floods and hooligans - the Federal Minister of the Interior answers questions!
Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser had three important topics on the agenda today at the federal press conference. Together with her North Rhine-Westphalian counterpart Herbert Reul, she presented the security concept for the European Football Championship. Faeser also commented on the situation in the flood-hit areas. Right at the start, however, the focus was on the knife murder of a police officer in Mannheim by a suspected Islamist.
Faeser warned against blanket condemnations and at the same time promised to crack down on extremists. "We will not allow ourselves to be divided by extremists and terrorists," said the SPD politician on Tuesday in Berlin. "We differentiate between Muslims, who belong to us, and Islamists, whom we fight with all our might," said Faeser. It was good that the Federal Prosecutor General had taken over the investigation into the case "due to clear indications of an Islamist motive." The security authorities have the Islamist scene firmly in their sights, "and we are continuing to intensify this fight," said the minister. Anyone who glorifies such acts on the Internet must also expect to be prosecuted.
