My brother was born in the middle of my 5th birthday party. I remember talking to my mom on the phone at the hospital while my grandmother ran the party. I love sharing my birthday with my little brother...don't worry about it. If it happens it will create a special bond between your kiddos.

I was diagnosed with GD super early at 8 weeks. I failed the 1 hour test so badly I didn’t even qualify to take the 3 hour test. Totally blindsided. No risk factors, no family history of GD or type 2 diabetes. I had to check my blood sugars 4x a day and counted carbs like crazy. Also walked after every meal. I was able to control the GD without meds. So I pretty much had GD my entire pregnancy. It was really hard being diagnosed so early and being so restricted the entire pregnancy but the good thing was that I didn’t gain that much weight so it was really easy to lose the baby weight post partum. And my blood sugars normalized post partum. I also was diagnosed with another more serious complication called intrahepatic cholestasis in pregnancy (ICP) in my early third trimester. Basically a liver disease in pregnancy that causes bile acids to build up in the blood which is toxic to the baby. I ended up needing to be induced at 37 weeks for the ICP not the GD. Despite all the challenges I am thankful for my healthy baby girl who will be 4 in August. Pregnancy is no joke. Hang in there!

I had GD and it really scared me at first, but as long as you control you're diet and keep your sugars low you will be fine. I ended up also getting preecampsia and was induced at 36 weeks. My baby was a happy and healthy 5 pounder. 2 months later shes now a 10 pounder lol. She loves her milk!

I was nauseous during my entire pregnancy and couldn’t imagine drinking something like this so I did some research and cake across articles about all the chemicals in the glucose drink, the inaccuracy of the glucose drink test and alternatives, such as doing finger picks with a blood sugar monitor. I opted for this which took work but it went well and I was able to avoid all this. I just wish pregnant women knew that this is an option.

My brother and I have birthdays a day apart! Honestly I feel like we have this extra special connection from celebrating our birthdays together year after year... I've never had a birthday cake to myself without his name on it, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Don't worry if they have the same birthday, they'll be closer because of it!

They are supposed to give you prior warning before they do the 1 hour test otherwise you are almost guaranteed to fail that one without watching what you eat a few days before it. That happened to me with my first. That 3 hour test was terrible! I cried too.

Hilary Jenkins this is true. For my first pregnancy I had to remind the stupid staff at my clinic that I have t had it and about a week later I went in after having a pretty “sugary” breakfast and they were like “here you go” and handed me that disgusting drink. Of course I failed it and I had to do the 3 hour. Everything went ok but it was a waste of time

I failed my 1st glucose test for my 1st pregnancy. Thankfully I passed the 3 hr test. For my 2nd pregnancy, I only ate eggs on the day of the glucose test. I passed the test! Apparently if you eat carbs or a full breakfast before the glucose test, chances are very high you will fail the test. They say to fast for the test but that is hard for some women. I get dizzy if I don't eat. A nurse suggest I eat protein, like eggs for breakfast. Hope this info helps others that will take the glucose test.

With my first pregnancy, I failed the 1 hour test, and I got very nervous! But I passed my 3 hour with flying colors. It wasn't fun AT ALL. They stuck me multiple times, and had to switch arms on the last one. I had a lot of bruising from that last prick, too. But I'd say the hardest part was the fasting. I was soo hungry and woozy. But looking back now, it was all worth it to know my little girl and I were doing ok. She just turned 5 last month. Don't blink! Hope everything goes ok for you.

Emotions are running high because I fear I wont be able to be there for my sons first day of school, and now I have to pay so much more attention to my diet. Doing everything for my babies, but I will be honest this pregnancy has been tough.

Question for people who do the blood drawing, for the 3 hr test, why don't they just insert the needle that sits there for the duration of the test to avoid repeat 'digging', i.e. the needle that gets inserted if you're admitted to hospital for easy blood draw/IV.

I could SO relate to this. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and I just took my 1 hour test on Thursday, which I think I passed because I haven't heard back from them, but what I really can relate to is the blood tests (and the poking, and the anxiety about the skills of the technician, etc.). I have tiny veins, so getting a skilled technician is extremely important, otherwise, I'm getting poked multiple times on each arm and then it usually ends up that I get blood drawn from the TOP of my HAND. The worst...place...ever. And I don't know what I hate more, the poking or the tourniquet (and I love when the tech says "Oh, sorry! I forgot to release that, hahaha"). But I always ALWAYS give props to the techs that are really good, saying "Wow, you're good. No one can find a vein on me and I get poked 9 times, blah blah blah..." -- they LOVE that. :) So YAY for the negative 2nd test!!!

Happy Mother's Day! I also had to take the 1 hour test before and omg having to drink that much sugar after starving for hours and also having to wait for another hour without moving too much really sucks out all your energy and you kinda feel nauseous. I'm sorry you had to go thru that and then had to take another three hour test after that. Kudos to you.

My second pregnancy, the due date was on my son’s third birthday. It was also our anniversary on Mar 25 as well. So our firstborn was born on our 13th anniversary. It would have been pretty freaky if he had came on that day but he ended up coming early at 35 weeks on Feb 22. I also went through a failed 1 hr glucose test n had to do the 2 hr 75 g sugar test and thank god i passed that. So happy for you jenn. Cannot wait to meet your little one

I had GD once. I had to give myself insulin 3 times a day. It wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. The diet was easy to adjust to, i actually learnt a lot during this time. Baby was induced at 38wks and was born a good size 7pd. He thankfully had no sugar issues himself after birth. Also, my husband and daughters birthdays are 1 day apart and 2 of my other children are 1 day apart too, those 2 were EDD 1 day apart and both born 1 day apart. Its kind of stressful having birthdays so close but its also quite nice too.

I'm an inpatient phlebotomist and it always surprises me when other phlebotomists miss and have to re-stick patients in outpatient clinics ... because they are 10x healthier than inpatients! D: I'm sorry you had to deal with that Jen
@msztammyful
@msztammyful 6 жыл бұрын
Xtina C I am both inpatient and outpatient phlebotomist. It’s true outpatient is much easier because they are healthier, but sometimes patients have such tiny veins that it makes it very difficult to get a good flow going, or to even find a suitable vein to begin with. It happens sometimes :)

There was this one technician that drew blood from my aunties arm, and she just quickly inserted in my aunts arm that she jumped and was in pain. It’s was really painful and I felt bad for not telling or filing a complaint about it. The technician acted like she didn’t do anything wrong vs. my aunt moving and jumping.

Hey Jen! I’m 39 weeks on Friday and having a section the same day, and so nervous I feel like throwing up 😭 please send some good vibes! Also for nails, have you acrylic on? I was thinking of shellac for nails and just plain polish for toenails so they can take the oxygen levels from my foot if they need to remove polish! Also my belly button freaks me out, it gets smaller when I laugh it’s like it stretches 😂

I had gd for my first (and so far only) pregnancy. At first it was scary, but I learned to reduce my sugar intake. Sweets was not my issue, but rice was. I just replace rice with veggies and it was all good. Other than gd, my pregnancy was smooth sailing. My daughter was born at 6 lbs 8 Oz. Cute, smart, and healthy. 😀

My mom and my sister both had GD and they were fine right after. My mom had it when she was pregnant with me and I came out 9lbs 9 ounces huge and happy. GD was one of the thing that I was afraid of. All my friends told me that the drink tasted really really nasty and it will make you gag and throw up. And if you fail...you have to take it again..plus the blood drawn. Welllllll....on that day...I took the drink and it tasted really good hahaha...I chugged it within a minute...and then i was worried about failing it but turned out that i pass. I knew i pass because i never craved or liked sweet things during my pregnancy and no history of diabetes so i was so happy i passed it.

My second gave me diarrhea lol. However, my third and fourth baby just gave me a stomach ache but i was ok and passed them all. My dr did tell me this last time that I was going to be able to pick between the 1hr and 2hr test because I usually always had the 3hr but he told me to take the 2hr one because it was more accurate and more people would fail the 1hr one. So I did what he said and passed no problem lol but I've heard of many women who failed the 1 hr test then passed the 2 or 3hr one.

I failed my first test too and that 3 hour test sucked soooo bad. The 4th time I got drawn, the 2nd technician got blood everywhere! 😭 I feel your pain. But thankfully everything came back normal. I was so tired and hungry too. My baby boy also kicked a lot at night and my bf felt the kicks when I was asleep too! But I’m one of those annoying women who had a super easy pregnancy. Haha. No heartburn or constipation, hardly any sickness and I took dance class twice a week until I was 7.5 months pregnant! I did break out during the 1st trimester but then it went away by the 2nd trimester. It’s different for everyone, and you’re rockin it! Best of luck with the rest of the pregnancy! Ariel Valenzuela the drink itself was unbearable but had to gulp it down less that 5 mins. It gave me that prickly feeling on my tastebuds. My results came back pretty quickly and I was fine for that. I like sweets like chocolate but I’ve cut that down quite down since I’ve found out I was pregnant. Just eat really clean and drink tons of water! 🙂

I’d rather have diabetes just while I’m pregnant than having to suffer for life, can I swap please I feel like I got ripped off in life 😂😩 it’s not too bad as people think, it’s just really annoying when people assume a lot of the stuff for example if I’m having a hypo people tend to tell me “Have some insulin!” It does make me sad that people don’t really learn what all kinds of diabetes are yet it’s the most common disability (yes diabetes is classes as a disability)

This is ridiculous, apparently-accordingly to a midwife here on KZbin, there are “natural” alternatives to this disgusting drink filled with these awful chemicals. Had I known I would have Asked bc I felt dizzy and nauseous as if I was about to pass out after drinking it.

smiledianee of these fruits that you’ve mentioned, mangos and pineapples are not citrus fruits. Instead, you can refer to them as tropical fruits as mangos and pineapples grow in the tropics. Oranges and grapefruits are genus of the Rutaceae family, so they are citrus fruits.
