The best explanation for Electric Callboy that I see people use is, "they don't take themselves seriously, but they take their music seriously." Oftentimes, their lyrics and how they act is definitely goofy, but they're also great musicians and make the catchiest music and blend and produce it to perfection.

EC is one of those rare bands that doesn't miss. Their entire Tekkno album is 1 of 3 in my lifetime where I skip no tracks. I'm picky, so that says something. Their fun and joy is super infectious, IMO due to their talent for blending genres extremely well (and mixing and producing well) and the guys' cheeky and down to Earth personalities. If you ever need to just feel happy, throw on any EC track, and BAM... a lovely smack of joy, right in the face.

Just a left field suggestion, a band I'm seeing live a bit later this year, I would highly recommend the Germanic group Heilung who are what they describe as a lived history experience, I'd start perhaps with Anoana which is a very beautiful and soulful track. As an older music fan who is also keen on interesting stuff happening in music today I can appreciate where you are coming from...

This is the best rabbit hole you can fall into, truly! My dear, almost 60 year old, dad introduced me to them during the pandemic and I've been hooked ever since. They are just pure fun, their music has been dubbed party core which is just right. As someone else said here, they don't take themselves too seriously but they take what they do very seroius which is refreshing in the metal/music scene. You'll find a HUGE catalouge of things to see/react to on their channel, from official music videos to vlogs and behind the scenes stuff. They are german, and speak mostly german but they subtitle everything so it's easy to follow along. Highly recommend checking out more from them, it's just a damn good time!

Welcome to the reacting game. EC is a great band, and are a lot of fun. There are a ton of good songs from them, Tekkno Train, Spaceman, Pump it, We Got the Moves... all worth watching What they did do recently is a collaboration with Baby Metal called Ratatata. Just a fun ass song. So the question becomes, have you checked out the Japanese rock and metal scene at all? I know everyone knows of Baby Metal, and you can like or not like them, it doesn't matter, the rock/metal scene in Japan is exploding. If you're curious I recommend Band Maid - Shambles Hanabie - Tousou Nemophila - Rise LoveBites - Holy War Those bands hit a lot of different varieties of rock and metal, I think you'll be entertained.

EC are a very capable metalcore band.... who also enjoy some Euro "Hardstyle", & they can compose quite capably in that genre also. Well said then, that they are authentically mixing the two. When the clean singer Nico joined after the old singer leaving, they seem to have made the decision "Fcuk it.... metallers should be able to have overt *fun* while they're earning their zeroes!" LOL And I'm 100% here for it. Definitely check out their "We Got the Moves". In fact, it's not a long song, so treat yourself to a double-header starting with the omv, then the live capture of them in concert: omv: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emKxlXp4ocmaadk live: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6m0nJyObaqrqrM Check out some of the young'uns *loving* their early taste of fun metal in that Denver crowd, & tell me these guys aren't doing great work! p.s. love a bold declaration of "I don't like the Beatles". Idk if you’re familiar with jrock or jpop at all, but since they basically took inspiration from all existing rock and pop mixed w their own twists the entire genres have been genre-blended from the beginning, so it’s so fun as someone who’s loved anime openings and the like that are all over the place with jazz plus traditional or like three different types of rock plus pop etc just all kinds of things mixed for the past couple decades, that we’re seeing that kind of thing now in the independent and even more mainstream western scenes

Electric Callboy is an amazing rabbithole to fall down. Serious musicians, with silly content. I highly recommend their other videos, Pump it, and We got the moves. If you like covers, they did one for Every time we touch. They have an amazing song made with the band Babymetal (also worth checking out) called Ratatata. If you want more serious music from them, the songs Mindreader, and Parasite, are also amazing. This only scrates the surface of them. If you enjoy fusion, i also recommend 2 Cellos for classical mixed with rock. Particularly their video for Thunderstruck. Other songs that work as covers, highly recommend Disturbed cover of Sound of silence, both the live and the studio version. And the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt. For current stuff, Look up Benson Boone, and Teddy Swims. And highly recommend Billie Eilish for her whole catalogue. Her older stuff is very niche, and a bit creepy, but she has a lot of talent, particularly showcased in her new album. Recommend the song Birds of a feather. These will all get you some views.

I think Electric Callboy is more than just blending of genres. I think part of what makes them great is that they open up stuff. What I mean with that is that - and this is controversial now - in my experience Metal is mostly music for Nerds. When you were a awkward Nerd or a Geek in the 90s and you wanted to escape the bullying, you had a few choices of "costumes" to put on. Two of those were that you could become the white Rastafarian dreadlocks guy and become popular by selling weed to the Jocks and other kids, or you could become the "scary" Headbanger who wore black leather and riveted wrist bands and so on. The problem was, you had to commit to both off-the-shelf personalities and that meant you had to be a purist who only listened to Reggae or Metal and you had to be a Snob who hated every other kind of music. You couldn't allow yourself to like and corny stuff that was popular in the 90s, like Boy Band music or Techno for example. And that brings us to Electric Callboy. They specifically take those "forbidden" types of music and put them together with Metal, making it possible for old Metal Snobs to enjoy that stuff for the first time, even if they have to pretend to like it ironically. That is kind of liberating.

The aesthetics of the video are impossible to really understand for people who know nothing about Germany in the 90s. Back in the late 80s and early 90s the German coal and steel industries went belly up and hundreds of thousands of working class dudes who had thought they would be working in those industries like their fathers and grandfathers had, found themselves without much perspective. That kind of created a whole generation of "peaked in high school"-type dudes who couldn't let go of their youth in the 80s and were still running around like that (mullets, handlebar mustaches aso.) till way into the 90s, long after that had stopped being fashionable. So in the 90s (when the guys in that band were kids) you had all those 30 to 40 year old, beer guzzling working class blokes hanging around techno rave parties and dance clubs, looking like time travelers from the 80s and trying to pick up chicks half their age. That is what this song and the video are making fun of and that is why it makes sense that the video mixes tropes from the 80s and 90s (Boy Band music, techno, aso.) and why the dudes look like from the 80s while the chick looks like a 90s raver girl. Ah and one other piece of explanation: The dancing people at the end of the video are a bunch of bigger German KZbinrs who are friends with the band.
