The forces were indeed probably too much, but it's also worth noting that Maverick opened with those absolutely putrid and uncomfortable hard OTS restraints (the ones Cheetah Hunt still has for some reason) and I'm sure that did not help on rider comfort through the element. I remember seeing the pictures of Maverick’s track in the field and thinking how ridiculously tight that looked compared to the mosa roll. It looked as tight as a roll on an invert, but coming in straight. Still wanted to try it as someone who really is a fan of aggressive snaps on a rollercoaster. I think it would have diminished the Stengel dive though. It’s fascinating to know the mosa still is not an exact heartline, but on purpose, and a way that’s comfortable to riders. I think the airtime right ahead of it also gives it such a unique jump into the roll where if you’re lucky you are still floating through the whole roll. Having ridden Velocicoaster and looking at this comparison, Sandor Kernacs absolutely made the right call. The Mosasaurus roll is loaded with ejector airtime and, even though it looks gentle from outside the ride, is very disorienting. More so than even the death roll on Iron Gwazi. Maverick's death roll looks twice as fast as Velocicoaster's. I imagine it would've been outright painful.

I haven't been on it but I think the spiral on Top Thrill 2 might have some similar sensations, since the element was designed for the original trains with a much lower rider position the heartline now with the higher trains would probably have a similar effect on getting ejector airtime. I did hear a lot of comments about the spiral being significantly more intense compared to Dragster, would be curious how this sort of engineering would compare on a roll like Maverick or Velocicoaster's compared to that vertical spiral

i would call it a butt-line role. i knew way back when they announced it and released the maverick animation that the rotational axis is below the rider, not at the heartline and it would be way too intense. i wish they would have reprofiled it to make it a true heartline and not something that would slam riders into the restraints at probably close to -3 gs at that speed.

Just wanna point out that there is a heartline roll like the Mosasaurus roll on another Intamin: Toutatis at Parc Astérix ! And this one also acts like an inverted airtime hill and the forces can be visualized on this video capturing all the forces of the coaster: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmK9fmqBa8aAq8k&ab_channel=CoasterStats And to have riden it multiple times, I really love the snapiness of this element with the amount of lat and air it delivers! I truly love how Intamin decided to go on and retry this element because it truly adds a lot to the coaster, just like the roll on Velocicoaster does. If Intamin had succeeded this element on Maverick back in the day, the coaster would have been a beast of thrills, more than it currently is!

So, the 'deathroll' looks quick like the... "pancake flip" on Aerieforce One - the element as you come out of the overbanked turn and into a double-up before the quad-down. I believe the profiling is such that there is *very slight* negative G's while inverted, but you're also experiencing a very strange combination of laterals at the same time... It's not that it's particularly intense but it's incredibly disorienting.
