hang on, the Apollo spacecraft (Command Module and LEM) were both fly-by-wire… as was the "flying bedstead" LEM practice vehicle, the first digital FBW aircraft. Apollo computers and a chuck of of the software were used in the first digital FBW fixed-wing aircraft - NASA's F-8 Crusader conversions, which in turn informed the F-16 and the STS Orbiter

@4:10, Apollo V? I'm not an expert, but quite sure, that the 99.9% reliability wasn't valid for each individual part, thus the number of 6000 failures / mission is wrong. rather 99.9% overall reliability? but maybe an expert could comment on the numbers please?
