@vanillamc15 жыл бұрын
ShadowCat are you sure it was him? I’m pretty sure it was said at a convention by the host of the panel.
@Windupchronic5 жыл бұрын
@@vanillamc1 Yeah, I was sort of mixing the two quotes up. What he actually said is: "It's always difficult to choose between your wife and your girlfriend." Source: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpLCZmWClLB5ga8 But still, there's plenty of record to show how 11 felt about Clara. Even 12 acknowledged it: Doctor: "Clara, I'm not your boyfriend." Clara: "I never thought you were." Doctor: "I never said it was your mistake."
@vanillamc15 жыл бұрын
ShadowCat oh, okay. I remember that panel. It was fun. I also heard him say that he never felt that Clara was the Doctors girlfriend. I think it was a different panel, though. I always thought that kind of explained why it was confusing that season as to whether she was his girlfriend or not. The writers may have wanted it, but he didn’t and so downplayed it as best he could. It’s just a theory.
@Windupchronic5 жыл бұрын
@@vanillamc1 It's sort of conflicting intentions, based on who's talking. Moffat was clear it was his intention that the Doctor fancied Clara. He said we'd seen women fancy the Doctor, but we'd never really seen the Doctor fancy somebody, and he wanted to play with that. Smith doesn't seem to have minded, and he's such a flirt anyway, who could tell? Capaldi, meanwhile, was against the Doctor having a love interest, and tried to play it more platonically. Coleman, meanwhile, has admitted Clara loved the Doctor. She even said that, in Mummy on the Orient Express, when Clara says, "I love you," while speaking to Danny but looking at the Doctor, in her mind she was saying it to the Doctor, not to Danny. So it depends on who you ask. But since the Doctor regenerates and becomes a new person, none of it's necessarily wrong.
@michaeldeboer99405 жыл бұрын
ShadowCat Bells of St John is definitely the Doctor’s first date with Clara, taking her on a motorbike ride through the city. That has to be intentional, the Doctor showing off. He could’ve just used the TARDIS but he wanted to seem cool. Moffat always played around with how the Doctor is perceived and how he wants to be perveived, his clothing, his face. And then the second date to Akhaten, Clara telling him off that she’s not some rebound, she’s her own person. Moffat has always been cheeky. It’s definitely intentional imho The Doctor was young and flirty bc he could be, but at the same time they’ve acknowledged he’s Space Gandalf and it wouldn’t be proper. The Snowmen is basically all the Doctor and Clara flirting, and Clara taking the initiative.

Paul McGann was done so dirty by introducing John Hurt to be the "War Doctor". I loved Hurt's portrayal of the character, and the character himself was charming enough, but Eight is one of my favorite Doctors, and I had spent the previous several years listening to his audios as the Big Finish crew built the Eighth Doctor up (or more accurately, tore him down) to participate in the Time War, and despite Paul McGann saying he'd love to be in the 50th, Moffat yanked the rug out from all of us and introduced his own character instead, fobbing Paul off with some ten minute minisode that totally fucks with his character development over the years (refusing to fight the Daleks and saying he'd rather die, after he swore he'd erase them from history if he ever saw them again for what they did to the people he loved? WTF?) and treats his regeneration like some sort of afterthought, when it's been something people have been waiting for for *years* . So yeah, I like the War Doctor, personality-wise, and I love John Hurt's acting, but MAN does the War Doc feel like such an unnecessary betrayal of both Paul McGann, the Eighth Doctor and Eigth Doctor fans.

It's interesting that the goodbye River asks of the Doctor is the opposite of the one Sarah Jane Smith asks for in School Reunion. I can't remember exactly how she puts it, but Sarah Jane asks for a proper goodbye, because she knows she won't see him again (though actually she does, of course.) River, instead, asks the Doctor to "say it like you're going to come back." But both ask for something they feel they missed out on before. I think School Reunion is the origin of what became the "The Doctor doesn't like endings" motif. Though, of course, that whole thing is sort of a retcon of the Doctor's age long habit of (usually) not revisiting companions.
