Hello, thanks for the video!!! Great help for those of us who are new at planting trees. I planted a Carrie Mango tree 2 years ago. She has not had fruit yet but I'm hoping next year. Watching your video you mention, "remove the old bloom spikes..." not sure what those are and what they look like... could you elaborate a little. Also, branches that are woody and not healthy.. how can I tell??? THANKS!!!!

Richard, I have a small mango tree. It is about a year old, and all it really is for now is a vertical stick with leaves on it. It is about a foot and a half, and I am thinking that it is time to start shaping it, so that it will spread out. How do I do that? I do not want to kill it by snipping off the tip ( don't know if it would do that - I haven't grown a mango before). Thanks in advance, your skill and knowledge really show in the video... thank you for sharing it with us.

questions regarding bloom spikes: - is it advisable to tip a branch just behind the base of bloom spikes? - should I remove a bloom spike that has leaves growing from it, but no fruit? - is it advisable to remove unhealthy, fruitless bloom spikes while tree is fruiting?

Hi sir actually i wanted to seek information regarding bloom spike pruning. 1) is it advised to tip a branch just behind the base of the spike bloom? 2) should i remove the bloom spike that has leaves growing from it, but no fruit? 3) should i tip all the branches where it had no reproductive growth ( only vegetative) on the stage when the fruit on the other branches is small sized like Pea sized ? in order to promote vegetative growth during fruit

I need HELP! I have an about 10 year old mango tree in my small front yard. I would love it to blossom as a very big tree but i just have a small yard so i have to make the mango tree small. This (about) 10 year old mango tree, i have cut it in half of its length several months ago. Now, several months later, it has many small branches around its stem that sprung out. Bear in mind that i want/need just a small mango tree for my little front yard. I don't know what to do to make it the way i want it. I want a mango tree but only the litte version of it. What/how will i do to make it? If i could share some photos of it here i will, so that you'll see it. Thank you

So is this a dwarf mango tree, or are you just keeping it small by trimming it down?

I have grown from seed 2 mango trees, Dr. Campbell... An Artfulo which is about 3.5 ft & the Haden which is about 9 ft, as of today. I have been told, that I can grow them from seed & then heard I should have grafted trees. Please if you can advise me, how to bring out the best of the Seedling Mango Trees, that I have started so they can bare fruit. Thank you so very much.....

Hi! Thank you so much for your question. There are a lot of pruning tips for mango trees, please refer to our Mango pruning and training guide: www.fairchildgarden.org/Portals/0/Mango%20and%20fruit%20growing%20pdf%20articles/2017-Training%20and%20Pruning%20a%20Mango%20Orchard.pdf?ver=2018-06-11-122542-230×tamp=1528734431149. It was written by our Tropical Fruit experts here at Fairchild. Thank you and please let us know if you have any other questions.

Do you recommend removing the flowers the first year of planting so that the tree can focus on growing? How much does stopping it from fruiting really benefit the tree? I am going to plant one in my yard this weekend and have been wondering how to best treat the tree. Mangos are my favorite and I don't want to stop it from fruiting if it only marginally benefits the tree. Of course if it is highly beneficial, I'll do it.
