Thank you for posting the video of the Fairey Gannet. My father was test pilot for Fairey Aviation during the late 50's and up to 1962. I should always treasure any additional videos of the Gannet.

There used to be one as gate-guard when HMS Gannet was still open at Prestwick. Bigger than it looks here.

As a child I lived in Clydebank, right under the glide path for Abbotsinch Royal Naval Air Station (now Glasgow Airport!) I used to see these strange but fascinating aircraft flying over my house every day.

With a catapult capable carrier and a few of these, it is likely there would never been a Falklands war, If their had of been the early warning radar of the AEW3s would have saved ships and lives.

This shortcoming was realised by the admiralty after the Falklands and they introduced the Westland Sea king Mk7 ASaC helicopter as a replacement shortly after.

I used to watch a lot of Faireys Planes flying out of great west Aerodrome and old Richard Fairey flying his Rotodyne out of Fairey Aviation at Hayes

Never knew these existed, a very unique plane that's for sure

+Mark Buck The French had a similar plane notably the Breguét Alize.

Yes, the Breguet BR1050 Alizé was a bit smaller (use 1 RR Dart 21 1950hp engine) and more modern, was retired in 2000 (replaced by Grumann E-2C Hawkeye), one is preserved airworty from a private association...

I saw one of these in Indonesia. It is a muscular looking thing up close. It was much faster than it looks, lots of brute power

I looove the sound of the gannet

I never knew these existed either. The blurb mentions a distinctive sound, so I wish the video clip included that. Cool to learn of anyway.
@peterjackson26257 ай бұрын
I remember that unique sound. It must have been caused by the 4 blades of one 1:35 propeller, passing the 4 blades of the other propeller in unison. I loved it.

This looks like a chunky reliable airplane it was wrn it worked But these adverts all say its prone to engine failure so make a new one with a merlin engine a modernized tweaked out version i mean any failures identified n made gd Less complicated of course Make it so all parts are universal or interchangeable as possible im sure ther are plenty of idle older carriers thrt cud be used to put a decent battleforce together wiv these
