Jo is joined by musician Sam McLoughlin who, as a young man aged 17 or 18 experienced an enchantment in a local woodland in Lancashire.
He and a friend heard what sounded like children’s voices coming from the river. They experienced orbs and a sense of strange shift in reality, commonly known as the Oz Factor, a term coined by Jenny Randles.

I was born in Lancashire and for the past few years I’ve been coming across the number 77 frequently, hardly a day goes by without seeing the number 77, so this attracted my attention as it’s episode 77 , and refers to my childhood home 😊👍

Oooh!! That’s cool 👌🏻😊 thanks I’m glad to be part of the 77 synchronicity. I did ponder on the fact that this was the 77th episode and it feels like a particularly special one (not all the episodes have been uploaded to KZbin yet-the rest are on the audio versions on Spotify and Apple and all other podcast apps)

There's a great deal of fairy lore in England's past. Out of print books and old articles attest to how much it was woven into the surroundings in daily life, and passed in tale from adults to children. Lancashire has a very old yet vibrant energy, as does neighbouring Yorkshire, with many hills, waterfalls, bridges and cloughs steeped in fairy tales.

The best two sources I have for English folklore are Katherine Brigg's "Dictionary of British Folktales' and the Reader's Digest publication "Folklore, Myths and Legends of Britain" . The latter featured in a recent "Fortean Times" article.

@@samuel56551 I think I have "Abbey lubbers etc." One of my prized possessions is "Hobberdy Dick" . i enjoyed reading it as an adult and often wonder what I would have made of it as a child. I think it is the only novel that she wrote.

A lovely young man who sounds as if he's had a lot of interesting experiences during his life. I found an interesting booklet recently in a secondhand book shop telling stories of the boggarts of Lancashire. All the boggarts were linked to the mosses and wetlands. Rather odd stories though linked to King Arthur.

Ahh wonderful! Was it Simon Youngs book about the Boggarts of Lancashire? There are some great old ones online too and one which is a little tricky to get hold of. Very rich in folklore around those parts.

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and thoughts on this subject!!🙂👍👍 And I absolutely love and agree with your introduction to your podcast!!❤ Often, I think that trying to apply human "Logic" to the way the Good Neighbours behave ~is not going to get us many answers!!😅❤ They have rules and laws, But,,, Logic doesn't seem to apply to them. They truly dispense mischief, mystery and magic to a World that Seems to be mundane... (*But really isn't!*) We all need Magic in our lives!!💫 Magic is Creative, chaotic and beautiful!!. Although I've been interested in other subjects of "the unexplained", fairies, gnomes, etc have never really caught my interest. For some reason, I've been more drawn to them over the last couple of months but know nothing about them. I'm so glad I discovered your channel after the interview with Ronald Hutton popped up on my feed❤ I realize there are different names and different cultural spins...and then people who are more knowledgeable still are not certain what title to ascribe to different beings that look) behave differently from each other. As a pagan and having a lifelong passion for the natural world, I hear people talk about "nature spirits" and "elementals" as different aspects of the natural world. Some speak of these as being the same as fairies, etc... then some speak of these as separate things. It becomes confusing😊 When it comes to nature spirits and elementals, in your opinion are they separate things, ir are they manifestations of the natural energies? I guess the same question could be asked of fairies, pixies, gnomes and other such beings. I guess bottom line, is there any source online - or better yet, in book form - to read to get a better grasp of these things and proper monikers, and their differences? Thank you so much for the work you are doing on this channel. Watching the interviews is a pure pleasure❤

I experienced an orb in woods in the Scottish borders It was the week of the tiannamen square protest in china It was a dark sphere similar to the narration-it was sentient and took interest in me, scoping me I wasn't bothered til it got a couple of feet from me, just floating around like a bee It was the size of a big marble with an electric sizzling sound First off I thought it was not good and picked up and ran back to our caravan I told the lads cos we were thinning the trees what I'd just seen, they said it was just some creature - which I've tried to identify but cant I think it was a creature of a kind because it was alive, it was solid, it seemed to be armoured in some way similar to an armadillo I couldn't really look at it because it scared me especially when it got close It definitely took too much interest in me for my liking..

@@h.bsfaithfulservant4136 Thank you very much for your kind reply!! I can say, with a certain amount of certainty that the Mischievous, Magical Anarchists,,, would have Nothing to do with Cooperation with a human Government,Ect,, Their own Court,Yes, but Humans definitely a Huge ,"Nope"!! They have Allowed me to see them on a number of different occasions, ( and I mean Allowed!) I Screamed the house down when I saw them, Dancing around my Gerbils Vivarium tank,,, Five of them, about 4/5 inches tall, pale and skinny!! Why were they dancing around my Gerbils?!!🤷‍♀️ They simply Giggled at me then disappeared!! ~ that was when I was just 6 years old and I had no terms of reference for them, except for "Ghosts"! Because , my Eldest Sister enjoyed scaring me with ghost stories. Previously I had been Allowed to see them on the Isle of Wight UK when I was about four/five years old, at that time I wasn't afraid of them. Not until I was told that I was" just imagining/seeing things/having a bad dream" and"Go Back to Bed!"!! Would I become so scared of the things I could see, and my mother tried to beat it out of me!! (*Except when I was useful to her, 'Knowing' where lost items were,, and if someone was trespassing on our land, I would be aware of this and wake our dogs up!) Now, I'm almost 60 yrs of age,,, I'm absolutely certain that the very idea of cooperation with any Humans, ~would cause a great deal of mirth and merriment amongst the Good Folk!! There are clearly malevolent non-human principalities and powers. I often wonder what part they play in the evil of the world - whether our rulers are guided by them, and if so, whether they know they are. Ascribing their evil to spiritual powers risks quietism or defeatism, though; it's probably best to assume we are striving against flesh and blood in the absence of certain knowledge.

just hope that 'we all' say 'hello' & 'thank you' when encountering these experiences -- ask if there is some information to give - something that you could 'do' ? its much like lucid dreaming - one must experience & stay grounded @ the same time - one thing that has been said to me is that they choose their appearance according to something we can accept - they have no 'real' shape - its not mystical - its another dimension being experienced - we don't know/understand the 'rules' of that dimension's geometry -

What a lovely person Sam sounds like. As a musical person myself ( who also loves nature), I found his musical project ideas exciting. I love that idea of the river/ stream being given the chance to channel its song through the aeolian harp. And I love the idea of creating instruments and placing them in the forest for nature to "play ". So cool. Anyway, thankyou, Jo and Sam! Sending gratitude from here in my canvas castle ( is. Bell tent 😆) on a mountain top surrounded by forest in Aus. I've had no internet for months, and still am completely off grid, ( I have to charge my devices at someone's house nearby) so it's difficult to tune in as often as I'd like, but just wanted to say that I absolutely adore this podcast 💖.
