I'm 85 and remember organ grinders with monkeys in Baltimore during the war, as well as men moving through neighborhoods with ponies to sell parents pictures of kids saddled up. I actually have a photo of me on a pony looking a bit uncertain about the whole thing. I was probably 4 or 5.

@bartospivak5755 What a special keepsake from a bygone era! As I grow older myself, I am realizing how much the past had to offer, and I am privileged to be able to share some with others at the museum where I volunteer. I suppose it's a lesson we all have to learn.

Aloha and happy day! Thank you for posting this, it’s a great organ and a GREAT piece of music! We have a Raffin 31/100 Konzert and would love a roll of Vera Lynn songs. Do you remember who cut the roll and are there more Vera Lynn songs on it? I’d like to get White Cliffs of Dover, we’ll meet again, Be like the Kettle and sing and maybe one or two others. We love our Raffin and use it to raise money for The Salvation Army, Veterans, and other causes. You just can’t beat the sound of a Raffin organ! Thanks again for posting this. Make every day the best day ever!

Hello John, good to hear from another fellow Raffin owner! As well as playing rolls, mine has a factory fitted MIDI system, and it's that I'm playing here, using an arrangement I rearranged for the 31 note scale from a file originally supplied by Hiddo van Os.
@johnlisicich7572 жыл бұрын
@@fairorgan greetings Nick and happy Saturday! Thank you so much for the info. Our Raffin is not MIDI, and I love rolls, so we are going to have someone like Thomas Sterk or Melvyn Wright arrange one for us. Being of Croatian heritage I’m also going to get some Slav songs that we grew up with cut. I have heard lots of organs and played with roll playing instruments for over 50 years and I must say that the two instruments I love most are our Raffin and the Mills Violanos we rebuilt. The violanos are gone now, but the Raffin will be with us until we are promoted to glory! All the best to you for a weekend filled with blessings galore!
@fairorgan2 жыл бұрын
@@johnlisicich757 I like rolls, but when playing at busy public events, pausing for re-rolling can be a pain, so MIDI is useful then (I'll often alternate between the two). Ultimately you can't beat cardboard books, as my 117 year old Gavioli fair organ goes to show!

Another soon to be Raffin owner over here as well. Mine will be the 20/31. But has a beautiful sound! I can’t wait till the new year when I can bring him to the U.K. from Germany!
@thecrankjonkie23912 жыл бұрын
I’m hopefully getting a midi system installed into mine as well. To run alongside the music roll system already in place. To offer more versatility.

Am I hearing accordion reeds sometimes? This machine is mind-blowing for its displayed potential. I regret that I never saw these as a child. Maybe I can finally build one? DVD showing all the parts of this machine might sell a thousand copies. Or maybe these are still built and sold somewhere? So far I'm not finding any in good condition...

Hi, im from Mexico, there's a possibility to buy this cilinders or barrels restored or new, and sending to Mexico. Here its part of our culture those hand machine music, but cilinders are to old and damaged, many doesn't sounds good.

HI NICK WHY IS YOUR GRASS BROWN ?
@fairorgan4 жыл бұрын
Good spot! The lawn there has always been lumpy, with poor quality ryegrass that grows far too quickly, So I've killed it off with weedkiller! Next job is to dig it up, level the ground properly, then plant some decent grass seed.
@shanesquire14 жыл бұрын
@@fairorgan THAT WAS MY JOB DOING LAWNS , I WAS A GROUNDSMAN AND A GREEN KEEPER . THE GRASS SEED YOU NEED IS CALLED BENT GRASS SEED .THEN YOUR LAWN WILL LOOK LIKE A BOWLING GREEN . WHEN YOU LEVEL YOUR LAWN ( MUST BE DEAD LEVEL ) DON'T FORGET TO TAKE THE STONES OUT . THEN YOU CAN USE A PETROL CYLINDER MOWER . THEN YOU WILL GET THE LINES ON THE BRAND NEW GRASS . I WILL LIKE TO SEE WHEN IT ALL DONE .

Never seen an organ grinder with such POWERFUL REEDS AND BASS EVEN more impressive is the tremello! Thats because the video is fake. The organ in the audio used would not fit on a little hand cart as itd have multiple ranks, tall pipes, and weigh a ton.
@fairorgan5 ай бұрын
Wrong! The video is entirely genuine, with unedited sound, recorded live on my mobile phone. I do however take it as a complement that you disbelieve how amazing my organ sounds. I suggest you have a browse of my other videos to hear more instruments in my collection, and more of this Raffin with it's brilliantly powerful reeds and bass, and action fast enough to sound like it has a tremulant. The organ has 119 pipes in total, and weighs around 56kg (without cart).

Barrel organ just needs someone to put in the sheet music and turn the crank at a steady rate. You can also see him adjusting the tone of the organ with the nobs on the side
