In the version that I grew up with, the witch just let go of the hair when he was almost at the top. Once he was blind, the witch made him wander in the desert for years (he didn't die but god knows why) and then Rapunzel who had been searching for him finally finds him. Kinda romantic in a weird way. I can't remember whether he can see her again because of her tears though
@FlamesInTheMoon10 жыл бұрын
OOh! I heard this version too! In the end when Rapunzel finds him, she cries (of joy? sadness?) and her tears fall into the prince's eyes (I think he was kneeling :p ) and he regains his sight.

In the version I grew up with, the fairy/witch/ogre banishes Rapunzel to a desert and when the prince finds she's not there, he throws himself off the tower in despair.

@forfoxsake__11 жыл бұрын
i dont know, but i just appreciate the old versions as well. Even if they are a bit stupid, or alot. but in the end they are storys. And wouldnt it be very boring, if the prince would just bring a ladder, they escape and live happily ever after? or if rapunzel wouldnt mention it to the witch, she would make the ladder and escape, its too easy. it would be boring. But still i really love to hear carrie taking them apart. XD

The version I heard had no lettuce, no sacrifice of babies, no falling out a window, etc, only a girl named Rapunzel trapped in a tower by a witch, who climbs her hair cause there's no door. Then a prince climbs the hair, they fall in love, the witch finds out and is not happy. She tricks the prince and is gonna hurt him until Rapunzel saves him the end. As I grew older, I read that the witch magically blinded him and her tears made him able to see again. I think I like this version best.
@MyPleaIsntInsanity12 жыл бұрын

@JonasNyholm9012 жыл бұрын
I kind of love that Rapunzel wasn't put into the tower until she hit 12 because her hair wouldn't have been long enough before then. Because if I've learned anything about this fairy tale, it's that it's always completely logical.

In another version she confuses the witch's voice with the prince's and says "Oh my sweetheart, how I long for your visits!" (or something along those lines). Which is even stupider because like you said, they can't possibly sound the same.

I also remember that there's still a continuation to this. Basically, the prince brings rapunzel and her children to his castle. His mother ( the queen) so how has a huge craving for rapunzel 'so children, and wants to eat them. The chef tricks her and feeds her lamb instead. Then she asks for rapunzel. Again, the chef tricks her by bringing out a hot cauldron and telling the queen that rapunzel is in there, and that she needs to taste it. When the queen leans over, he pushes her over and boils her alive.

I'm sure that in the story Rapunzel is taken by the witch because her parents have nothing else to give her. Your point about the witch's voice being different to the prince is a good one though. I think this Rapunzel kid was ever so slightly dim. But I love how worked up you get over this Carrie. Just remember it's a fairy tale. Alternatively get your time machine; (we've all got one haven't we,) and go back and sort out mister Grim , (he of Grim's fairy tales fame. )
