Fairy, Panda Panda, Prey, and Rainbow Reviews

I grabbed Fairy as it's a great reimplementation of the version in Final Fantasy XIV Maps. I have the original version of Rainbow/Neon and it's such a great little game. Loved Tom's original video on it back I think it was 11 years ago!

Prey and Rainbow (aka Preynbow) are the ones that I'm excited about; the other two are ones I'd like to try.

I have Instant Celebrity, the only real difference is the numbering. I actually like the appearance of Instant Celeb better, just because of what appeals to me personally. But the numbering of Fairy is a little more intuitive. Instant Celeb, all suits are 1-7, but the suits are coins, bags of coins and Chests. So 1 bag of coin is still bigger than 7 coins, and 1 chest is bigger than 7 bags.

Is there a reason why you have to hold the score card in fairy? It would definitely create an accessibility issue for me having to hold it the entire game and never being able to put it down. Also, it kind of seems like a weird barrier of entry to add for a little bit of forced silliness

Agree with that, maybe I'll replace it with a cribbage-like scoreboard with pegs or markers like Ticket To Ride.

You can place a cube on the card and track points that way, but I (Chris) do feel like the "forced silliness" adds to this particular game experience. As I said, it kind of prepares you for how serious to take the rest of the game. But, some people really hate doing it, or as you mentioned, for accessibility reasons cannot hold it and that's fine.

@thedicetower cool, as long as you don’t have to do it. I have fine motor skill problems, and keeping the card held like that so players could see my score would be fatiguing at best and impossible at worst

seal of excellence? shouldn't it be 8.5 for the seal?

It was an 8.5 and a 9 for Rainbow which got the Seal of Excellence. I believe the other ones had the Seal of Approval logo.

Very weird! But yes, you are correct, it should only be a Seal of Excellence at an 8.5 or higher.

Are you saying rainbow wouldn't get a 9 or a guessing game (Fairy) getting an 8 if it wasn't sponsored? 😂 Maybe they are just really good hidden gems.... won't know unless you buy and play it (or just use similar decks of cards).

@@thedicetower Yes, at least as far as I'm concerned, it helps a lot. For me, the ratings don't fit into the overall picture of how the two have otherwise rated. I would have liked you to be the negative or relativizing part.

@improfil Chris here. I think a comparable point here would be to look at Mike and my thoughts on Trio. It's an incredibly simple game that also got 7.5s/8s. Similar vibe of game, not from a sponsoring company. These tend to be types of games we enjoy.
