@@chernormajubah4672 When it is implied that said character died or faced an immenint threat, then they come back alive a second later. This is considered a fake death. Like Pill from alabasta arc this bird literally took a nuke to the face and came back alive. Another one is bon chan he gave his final words against Magellan and for some reason is alive (in a F chapter cover).

Even as a fan of fairy tail, I can overlook overuse of power of friendship, overuse of fanservice, and a bad power system, I think the show has positives in spite of its negatives. But I would absolutely agree the worst thing this series does is fake out deaths because its removes any tension in the story, honestly I think this story was so family-friendly to begin with that characters shouldn't have been written into a corner where there had to be a bullshit reason for the character to come back to life. I genuinely do think the story has positives they may not be for everyone but I certantly liked it, but fake out deaths really do make this story noticably worse even as a fan. Also this was a good vidoe, keep it up. P.S. sorry for yapping

If they are just going to tease us with Character death or introduce Concepts like Zeref's God mode and overrides that with Deus Ex Machina which makes these concepts and hook meaningless then Mashima might as well just not. Fairy Tail is just Pokemon and it shouldn't try to pretend to be something else.

Diffeeence is DBZ actually the Dragon Balls straight up become inert, had Shenron croak in the OG and doesn't over rely on "Le Power of Friendship". Heck, the Characters had to earn the Right to get their Ressurection Macguffin back or are we forgetting about the Frieza Saga?

And "earning" resurrection is still neglecting the tension of death. What did Vegeta or trunks do to "earn" the revival? Aside from the frieza saga, reviving someone with dragon balls was never a hard task.

@@HarmandeepSingh-fy5zt Neglecting the Tension of death doesn't really fly considering they were up against Frieza who, in addition to, at the time, being the strongest MF in the show and Frieza was also potentially going to become immortal if they all croaked. Also, best part about Frieza? They introduced him as a monster who could give the Saiyans backshot and didn't cheapen him via "MuH Friendship Deus ex Machina", no, they foreshadowed a form powerful enough to end him since the Saiyan saga.

Why do people care more about if characters die or not than the actual story being told…

Because character death IS a part of the story being told and significantly contributes to world-building/character arcs based on how it's written. The point isn't that there should be death, but that when there is a death, it should be done with careful consideration, set-up, and intention to not screw over your story's world-building and/or character development. Don't get me wrong, a character can die and stay permanently dead and STILL be considered horrible because the death didn't bring any value to the story. But in Fairy Tail's case, bringing back characters that should have died just tells your reader that your story has no stakes and that any type of BS can happen. That technically would be fine IF the story was a non-serious series that didn't involve consequences making the characters suffer and grow through various scenarios, but Fairy Tail ISN'T that type of story-- the characters are constantly thrown into disarray and challenged left and right. They've experienced losses and tragedies in their backstories that make them evolve or devolve. If you're going to kill a character to make another character grow or add value to the story, then keep them dead. If you're not planning to kill your character but just want some shock value, then don't even bother killing them in the first place or "kill them" off-screen. Your intention on what you plan to do with a death can be as simple as that. The "actual story" being told is not separate from its writing. You can have an amazing general story and concept but still have it be poorly executed. Fairy Tail is fun to watch with your brain turned off, but it definitely isn't good writing by any means and is therefore not a good story to many. That doesn't mean that you will think it's a bad story, but the harsh reality is that many will see it as one.

I guess Dragon Ball gets a special pass for this then. This kind of double standard stuff is why I don't usually like viewing "critique" or discussion. People can't put their personal bias aside and claim it as fact when it's not. Fake out deaths don't actively lower the stakes or make a story worse, that depends on the viewer, again, dragon ball and literally every other shonen manga in existence. The sooner people can start realizing most of their issues come from personal bias rather than "objective" issues, maybe we as people can actually get somewhere in discussion. Also just because a majority thinks something is true doesn't mean it usually is. This goes both ways with what a majority thinks is good, and what a majority thinks is bad. Most people usually just bandwagon opinions without forming their own first anyways. That's where the majority opinion usually comes from.

Because Fairy Tail was trying to act like the Tension was on the Character dying. But for Acnologia, most of the fights weren't really all that High stakes seeing as "Friendship ex Machina" would handwave away any danger.
