FairyLoot Subscription Box Unboxing - April 2019 'Dark Magic'

The "black magic" items inside go with certain books that have said black magic in them. Like for example, the black cat, Mister Kindly, is from the Nevernight Chonicles by Jay Kristoff and he's basically a shadowcat daemon type thing. Philosopher's Stone is from Harry Potter.. blah blah. So yeah the theme isn't really the type of black magic you were expecting I'm sure lol

Yeh I definitely get it but that’s what I mean I know nothing about books so to me it wasn’t the dark magic I was hoping for but I do see what they did there 😂 They didn’t use to do that it use to be general but I guess they theme it all around books now .. which is great for book lovers! I just need to remember that next time haha

Fairy Loot is a Young Adult Box, so I would never have expected them to put anything related to real magic or witchcraft in it. Probably not the best box to get if you’re not an avid reader though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Love the black cat it is really cute. For me I agree with you, not something I would be excited about. When I hear black magic I think of spooky, creepy things, spells and more like witchy things.

If you love books and not reading you should try audio books. I love those for like reading/listening while doing something dull like cleaning or organizing or even talking a hot bath. LOL. + in bed relaxing while going to sleep. Helps my mind shut up and just listen so go to sleep faster. As for the dragon quote in that box, though, meh. Why defeat the dragons. Just hang out with them and go smash castles together. Love dragons! Morticia

I’m 42 and I subscribed to Fairy Loot two months ago because I love books and love to read. The books are beautiful and always signed! I don’t think it matters what age you are, reading is reading and it’s great for the brain. Personally I have loved both boxes I have received so far, I might not know much about the items in the box but I find out by reading up on the characters in the books and on any items. They are generally from other books! I love anything fantasy, magic, witchy or horror themed so these boxes suit me. However we can’t all like the same things, and there’s always going to be a box we don’t like as much as previous boxes. Just enjoy reading and if there’s things you don’t like you can always sell them on or gift them to someone you know. Happy reading 📖 💕

It’s a mostly teenagers box and the book trilogy is about a girl who is a map maker that ends up having magick and discovers it from being taught from an old lady it’s my favorite book and I’d recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy

Can I suggest you sew some awsum patches you love that you don't know where to put on the book sleeve? So your still able to use it and make it cool and your own. Just a something I would do. I never know what to do with the buttons and patches I get in boxes. I agree this box was a huge miss. I am a huge book nerd and I still think this box fell short. I'm very into witchy horror theams and they clearly don't grasp that aesthetic. But meh. Good to see atleast.

The Grisha trilogy is good more fantasy than horror. Six of crows both done by the same author. I haven't read six of crows yet but the Grisha trilogy is a good read for fantasy/romance lovers lol The author is Leigh Bardugo for anyone interested.

There's two different types of fairy to be fair, there's the fae, which is normally not necessarily light magic, but they are just going about doing their thing, some steal and give back things in return, usually to do with nature and some like moving stuff around for fun and others like borrowing time and making it feel like you've been gone for a long time. The other fairy is darker, they are called changelings, usually the fae steal a human child and replace a fae in their exact copy in their place so the fae learn more about the human world. Thats all the fae is, but they are associated with the paranormal, i don't believe they have their own magic, except for maybe the stealing off you and being able to give back in equal measure for their own gains. Which is partly where paganism and witchcraft comes from, the giving back in equal measures. And fairy is more a style a way of living these days a bit like hippy style. so maybe they should have called it dragon loot, cause Dragons are more into stealing actual valuable stuff, fairies steal just for shits and gigis. i know this was a while ago, but i love you vlogs and thought i would put this here, in case it was useful.

I so see where you are coming from. i love the Philosophers stone soap but I would have like something death eater-ish. I did not like A Curse so Dark and Lonely. It was too misogynistic for me. If you think the Disney Beauty and the beast is bad/creepy do not read A Curse so Dark and Lonely. Yes it is definitely not a box for those who are not up to date with booktube. I am not a quick reader and that is one of the things that puts me off buying the box. I do like the books.
