I was delighted to visit Idstein and will definitely go back! It was my second try, but the first time, the weather gods threw sooo much rain at me - but alls well that ends well, because I got to see the town all lit up like this. What do you think of Idstein? I would not go to Idstein for shopping. It is a very small town and did not have many shops I liked in my time there. But I have nevertheless some fond memories you brought up again.

The town looks like it has alot of history and Christmas spirit. There is a town similar in Christmas spirit and history near me. It's called Frankmuth Michigan. Merry Christmas to you all and that you firvthe wonderful video.

Oh if you own medieval clothings yet, thats great, but you shouldn't buy all accessoires in advance for this event because there are many great booths with traditional craftsmanship who sell all kinds of really nice handmade medieval stuff. And if you want to get the full atmospheric experience you should bring a large towel and reserve a hot tub in one of the traditional medieval bathhouses, which especially in the evenings can be a truly magical experience. Over all I think all this is a bit like a german christmas market in the middle of the year, only much larger und even more atmospheric! Btw Idstein has a smaller medieval market (Idsteiner Hexenmarkt) as well but I don't know if there'll be one this year. Have a great time!☺

Get the key at the Killinger House/Visitor Office, during daytime. As you climb the stairs, you can see the original tower structure. Thanks again, for the vid.

Hi Lauren, I'm very grateful for your intriguing videos because they show me in what beautiful country I live. I had no idea I must say. Having been to so many interesting places around the world, I was never really aware about the gems just lying around within a few hours drive from my doorstep. You may also have a talent for picking the right spots. I was particularly impressed by your excellent footage of Northern Germany, a region I hardly know although I was born there. I always thought German towns and cities are not really worth visiting because so much was destroyed in the war, but it's amazing to see how much was saved and preserved. If you're into pretty castles you should consider a visit to the Schwerin castle, one of the most beautiful in Germany. Schwerin is also the capital city of the federal state Mecklenburg Vorpommern.

I lived in Idstein for 13 months - it wasn't a good experience, but that's because I'm a city boy. For a short getaway, somewhere quiet and traditional, it's lovely, and especially for Christmas.

Well, Germany, German wizards and witches and Quidditch teams are mentioned in the Harry Potter books. In the last HP book a quaint medieval German town is described and they filmed parts of the last HP movie in a medieval German town called Rothenburg. So Germany and Harry Potter fit quite well together.

@@LaureninGermany I once went to Weißenburg. The town is very nice too and not far from your home. It is an hour drive north from Schrobenhausen. You should check it out. The old town center is still there and even most parts of the town walls. You can almost feel the medivial time.
