Faith Alone fans (itching ears) conveniently forget the *real* meaning of *faith* revealed in its cognate *FAITHFUL* . To have faith in Jesus is to be *FAITHFUL* as revealed by Jesus in this parable you pointed out Luke 12:42 the *FAITHFUL* servant obtains the prize but the *UNfaithful* servant does not. Hence we see clearly; faithfulness is inseparable from faith as explained in James 2 faith without ⚠works is dead ☠. James says Abraham by his works was *JUSTIFIED* . Here James speaks of good works that fulfills the law, i.e. establishes the law, whereby justifying a person showing him *FAITHFUL* like Abraham. In contrast, Paul says works of circumcision (Romans 2:25 - 4:25) that does not help his neighbor does not justify (not righteous requirements of the Law), but rather, called works of the law. In Hebrew, the word עבדים that means *worship* to a god, also means *works* of service to a god. Noticing now that I am adding biblical Hebrew with my Koine Greek, I can see much of the way Jews spoke Hebrew are just worded in the NT in Greek. What I mean is, much of the way the NT reads in Greek, does not word things like Plato or the Greeks, but like the Hebrews. I remember years ago, conversations in spanish with Puerto Rican and Cuban friends, they would often ask me "what are you trying to say?" because I would do a word for word conversion to spanish, *instead of* wording it as they do. Likewise, the NT does this in Greek a lot. Example: Matthew 1 we see the OT pattern of indicating a man lying with his wife to conceive a child is said "he knew her" to be worded like that in Greek. This phrasiology is frequent in OT Hebrew. Similarly, I think the Hebrew idea as I stated above for the word עבדים for worship, works to a god, to be what Paul means by works of the Law. This is *NOT* the Hebrew words for righteous deeds... different words. Greek word δικαιοσυνη dikaiosune = just deeds, righteousness δικαιουται dikaoutai = justified, determined righteous justice, righteousness, justified, righteousness... all same family in Greek.

(Gen 15:5-6) and why was this promise fulfilled And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. (Gen 26:4-5) for God promise to be fulfilled it requires Obedience.
