Land of Sunshine!!!! My personal favorite!!! Lyrics were taken from fortune cookies and self help

Part of the lyrics of that song were also taken from a Scientology test Mike took (ex: “Does emotional music have quite an effect on you?”)

This specific song i think was all Mike (writing) or at least mainly. On the making of angel dust video it shows him playing the song on guitar (lounging around not recording) and layer in the interview section he talks about his inspirations and creation process.

Yes, Mike wrote this song and all the parts but did not perform them during the recording. This was the first FNM song that was written entirely by Mike

I think part of Mike's eclecticism comes from the freedom of being a self-taught musician. As @no no said, there's a great clip from that long-ass "Making of Angel Dust" documentary where Mike is explaining this song in terms of, "and then there's this Godflesh kinda part..." Same for Bungle. We now know the first song he wrote for Bungle was "Sudden Death," which Scott Ian described as having over 90 changes through the song. Not the way most "trained" musicians would write. He's obviously grown tremendously as a true "songwriter," and is a supremely gifted vocalist. But he's also been lucky to have grown up with a couple of savants like Trevor and Trey, then win the lottery and land with Puffy, Billy, and Roddy at such a young age.

Mike Patton is a musical god! Angel Dust is an album that you have to listen to from start to finish. You'll never regret it.

This song is crazy... in a good way. I remember asking a college roommate back in the day when he went to see them "Did they play Malpractice?" (They didn't). Always loved this song.

You definitely haven't reacted to Midnight Cowboy, you would remember because it's an instrumental 😉 And we still have some bangers from AD to go 😛 Yeah this is just the madness Mike has going on in his head lol I believe he wrote this song or most of it, in the Angel Dust sessions you can see Mike trying to explain to Jim what he's hearing in his head and how the song goes and then playing it to him on guitar and explaining the different parts, very cool 😎 Anyway glad you enjoyed the song and thank you for the reaction ❤️

used to crank this up on my way home from work and you would hit the hiway off ramp right when the tire squeal sfx / "applause" guitar riff kicks in ... how many times i almost flipped that car . such a great band , angel dust is there finest moment out of so many , but mr bungle is the better band . fantomas and tomahawk too . get the directors cut lp and then the dillenger escape plan good dogs do bad things with patton .

Yes.:) This one and Jizzlobber are two songs from Angel Dust heavily influenced by gothic and death-metal...a true fact.:) And it came from Mike and the bassist Billy, who shared the same fascination for these genres by that time, and much less from the guitarist Jim as long as he was concern about it...:/ I don't know if they smoked anything together then, I hope not exactly "angel dust"! Hahah.. But, there you go, thanks to that, you got your greasy FNM sound.:) That middle part is sweet, Patton`s contrast in singing, ranging from brutal growls and screams to the subtle one during the glockenspiel part is fantastic, you have to admit!... Also, keyboardist Roddy used a samples on this album a lot, it is already known and he included here a short, 8-second phrase from the opera of the Russian classical composer Shostakovitch - you could hear how those strings are cut and pasted near the end of the song (before Patton`s outro-loud singing, just as he leaves the soft, middle part)...Good job! :) The lyrics uses the metaphor of live surgery !...with the surgical instrument forgotten in the patient`s belly, to describe the unrealistic expectations that people / viewers/ admirers / `ONE BIG BAD DOCTOR` have towards a true individual / stage performer / artist / `PATIENT`.... blocking the real connection and real perspective on illuminated things, all wasted by lower urges and cheap admiration and making the things unhealthy - practically doing a... Malpractice....and a bad job. Yeap, gory, but inspiring metal topics.:) Till next video, C ya! :D
