First festival I ever went to. My best buddy and I went underage... Such a good show. We went to Download for the reunion, then the next Download they played at. Fantomas, Tomahawk. We met Patton after the Fantomas show. My best buddy died last month. I'm so sad. Last thing he gave me was the FNM book. Also have his FNM t-shirt from 1992. I'm gonna miss you buddy.

Patton has put on a masterclass here. Find me a performance in rock with more energy and venom than this. Completely intense and obviously an outlet for the tensions within the band at that time. A peak performance that shouldn't be forgotten.

@@ziggypop79 Did they fire him or did he leave the band? To me, Jim was their secret weapon, he kept their music from getting to off the wall, goofy. Idk, he knew exactly what to and when to and when not to play which is not an easy thing to do. They're just not the same w/o Jim.
@ziggypop79
@ziggypop79 2 жыл бұрын
@@johntoughlove479 They fired him by fax! Jim didn’t like the goofy direction and silly songs and wanted them to play heavier, more structured songs like The Real Thing. From what I’ve read the main problem has been Billy Gould not respecting Jim and basically driving him out the band. I think they basically became jealous of Jim’s celebrity and appearing in movies like Bill & Ted and wanted him gone.

Seen them 8 times since 1980 and don't care who does or doesn't agree....Jim Martin brought something to this band that was an absolutely essential ingredient. Yes Patton is Patton....but the 3 times I saw them with Jim were head and shoulders over any of the shows I saw them play with other guitarists. back in the late 80s i wasnt a big Faith No More fan. Chuck was a decent singer with his own style and it was ok. But after Patton joined it was totally different, in a good way. Ive seen them at least 8x , they werent usually the headliner. But sometimes they were better than the bands i came to see. Patton was always a skinny beny back then but he had this huge voice! I think he's become one of the best singers Ive heard, such versatility and range...its uncommon today with all the computerized vocal tools bands use, no talent needed. Maybe someday he'll get inducted in the music hall of fame.

First tour I saw them in Deinze, Belgium. Amazing! I motioned Mike to jump in the crowd... he looked me in the eyes, very serious and somersaulted and landed on his back on the heads of my neighbours! I swear I would never motion any artist to do anything on stage ever again...

I had just turned 29. FNM at Phoenix was a late birthday celebration. Still one of my favourite festival gigs ever. The crowd was manic that night. So pleased to see this on here!

+Richard and Buttercup Yeah, for those of us that were there, the crowd was a bit insane and kudos to anyone for carrying in a VHS camera and attempting to film. However, should have not zoomed in a much cos we cant see the stage set up, just narrow, shaky close ups.

+Jonny Davies i very much doubt that someone could just walk in an film with a VHS camera, particularly back then when they were able to pick up people trying to get boot legs. they only started letting people sit there and film (instead of enjoying the damn show) when people had a HD phone in there damn pockets. my impression is someone near the sound engineer filmed it , with the full knowledge of the band, and didn't really know what they were doing and have crowed jumping all around. it would also explain why the audio is not distorted to hell . but that just my opinion.

Hearing this show just reminds me of how much Chino Moreno from the Deftones was influenced by Patton's way of singing. Those screams, the soft/dramatic parts... Idk, it just really reminds me of Chino's way of singing

I love Mike I do but my god he is on 10 all the time. And I don’t think I know Jim just couldn’t take it anymore. You can see it in interviews and on stage it’s just overwhelming. I see it more now that I’m older as well. All that said I’m not blaming Mike. Not at all. Truth be told that dynamic played a lot into those two albums which where insanely good.

I'm 63 yrs old and I'll tell ya I love me some Mike Patton. This motherfucker has such energy. And its seems he takes absolutely nothing serious while poking fun at you, me the song he's performing and himself as well and having a fukin' good time while doing it. Love his interpretation of Easy Like Sunday Morning and I Started A Joke, and of course Epic.

This just popped up on my feed I was at this gig jumping around like a nut case I also went to every Phoenix festival that was on until its sad end in 97 when I had a back stage pass and found myself standing next to Mike Patton at the bar the day they played that year, the 90s were crazy times for me .
