Script:
On August 23, 1988, Jeremy was born in Torrance, California to a Taiwanese, Christian family as the middle child.
When he was a kid, Jeremy’s family moved to the Bay Area. His parents encouraged his interest in basketball, as his dad taught him and his brothers how to play at the local YMCA.
As for his mom, she even helped form a national junior basketball program where he played.
During his senior year of high school, Lin became the top player and was named captain of the Palo Alto Vikings. Leading his team, they had a 32-1 record.
Despite all that, he did not receive any basketball scholarships to play for any colleges.
However, that did not stop him.
Lin chose to join Harvard’s men’s basketball team, winning multiple honors and awards during his time there
All that was left in his professional career was for a team to draft him.
60 names were called that night. His wasn’t on the list.
Then, something intruiging happened
After a series of events, Jeremy signed a two-year $1.2 million deal with his hometown team, the Golden State Warriors.
In a twist of fate, the place where he didn’t get drafted was the place he was going to play for
Near the end of 2011, the New York Knicks claimed Jeremy Lin off of waivers, to be the fourth-string backup point guard on their roster.
Then-head coach, Mike D’Antoni stated that “[Lin] got lucky because [the Knicks] were playing so bad”
The rest is history.
Lin led the struggling Knicks to a 7-game win streak, and put some life back into the city of New York. For 2 whole weeks.
Lin went from a rising star, to a distant memory.
That’s when the majority of the world tuned out.
But for those who know, we tuned IN.
Instead of making it only about race, Lin used this opportunity to become one of the NBA’s most outspoken and authentic Christians.
One could choose to look at this from a purely Cultural Lens, just like the common basketball fan.
As a matter of fact, Konrad Ng and Daniel Yu-Kuei Sun both wrote scholarly articles solely based on the impact Jeremy had on the Asian-American community.
But I chose to look at this from the Spiritual Lens.
The vast impact that Jeremy Lin had on basketball and Asian culture, can be comparable to his impact as a follower of Jesus.
Nowadays, Jeremy plays for the New Taipei Kings. He even won a championship this year overseas, and he did it with his little brother/teammate, Joseph.
As for his personal life, he married his wife in an intimate, private ceremony, a couple of years ago.
Three months ago, they had a beautiful baby boy.
Whether on or off the court, Lin serves as an inspiration to put Faith over Fear.

It’s currently 3 AM on a school night.
The video’s due by midnight.
3 hours on a paper I won’t put any effort into or 15 hours into a documentary that will stay online forever?
I already made my choice when I saw the syllabus.
Jeremy, if for some odd reason, you get the chance to watch this video, then thank you for being one of the best role-models in this day and age. Keep doing what you’re doing, and it will all eventually pay off. Thanks for getting me into basketball, but most importantly, thanks for showing me how a true Christian lives. May God bless you always.
(collab one day?)
All love,
Stephen 🎱
