But since Buffy has learned to be without him, BECAUSE HE WANTED HER TO DO SO, and left... She doesn't need for him to decide, she's the one that decides, and he can't handle it...

Well, if they were willing to let her back in the team for this mission, they need to put that aside for now. By this point, she has been to prison, she has helped Angel and his team and Willow was the one who brought her back. If I was Buffy, I don't think I could ever forgive Dawn for that. When you *literally* give your life to save someone, and they pay you back by kicking you out of her own house - the house she pays the bills for so that they can have a roof over their head - that's too far. I get that everyone was stressed and wanted to take a different path, but for Dawn of all people to kick her out is just too much. And for what it's worth, I have to give credit to Faith. She started the conversation, but then it snowballed out of control. She tried to tell everyone else that Buffy just needs a break. And when Buffy was about to leave, Faith was the one who went out to apologize and try to make things right. And that last moment between Buffy and Faith... It was powerful. If I was Buffy, if I survived this apocalypse, I'd run away with Faith and get away from everyone else for a while. But then, I'm one of those people who ship Faith and Buffy, so maybe that's just a me thing. ^_^

@battlefries
@battlefries 6 күн бұрын
@@abbesatty9498 To be fair, Buffy was asking a LOT of everyone. After Caleb beat them so soundly the last time, asking them to back to that same enemy is a very big thing to ask. Buffy was right that they needed to go there, but I think everyone else was right to be worried. Most of them were voicing genuine concerns. Anya, however, was just wrong. Buffy wasn't "lucky." The 'luck' that made her the Slayer has made her life one of endless hardship. And over the past seven years, she has proven that she's earned what she's been given. Also Rona, who literally sang a song about how the "witch is dead" after Buffy left. Rona's just horrible. But I don't think that there was anyone in that room who was completely right or completely wrong, but the way Dawn chose to "resolve" the situation was horrible. Maybe she felt she had to step up and be more grown up and mature, but I don't think she was manipulated. In the end, it was Faith's plan that ended up working, kind of. Faith said that she thought that Buffy just needed to take a bit of a break and get some breathing room, and she did just that in someone else's house with Spike by her side, and then she went and slayed. In the end, the final scene of Empty Places was a big ol' mess with no real winners.

Any in-fighting the group does is supporting The First because in-fighting is The First's biggest tool against the group. Whether it was telling Wood, as his mother, who murdered his mother, or whether it was The First telling Dawn, as Joyce, Buffy won't choose her, which is why I believe Dawn became so adamant to say in this episode, "Then you can't stay here." Despite being told her mom wasn't The First, The First already implanted the seeds of doubt and is the reason Dawn chooses to kick Buffy out. Dawn's not choosing Buffy before Buffy doesn't choose her plays right into The First's hands. This moment goes against what many people defending The Scoobies say, which is the fact that if everyone wanted a new leader, due to Xander losing an eye, kicking Buffy out wasn't the right option. I agree 100% with Rana on that one. Buffy told the group she couldn't save everyone in war and has been warning Xander how dangerous slaying is since the second episode of the series ("Xander, this is deeply dangerous"). I disagree with said new leadership of Faith, as does Faith herself, but the group is so against Buffy, they don't listen to Faith. Kicking Buffy out creates in-fighting The Fist clearly wants. Also, Buffy's house (as of the beginning of this episode) is the only place in Sunnydale vampires don't have entrance to, so kicking her out (whether they assume she can handle herself or not) is a mistake. Xander not only retcons everything good he says about Buffy during his earlier episode speech (the one that had Buffy crying happy tears) by kicking her out, but in the two hour pilot when Buffy says, "Xander, this is deeply dangerous." he dismisses her, thinking she's looking down on him when she is actually telling him directly of dangers. The fact that he dismisses this and thinks Buffy's thinking him, "less than a man," compared to what he's saying now, shows a long term-ness of never really taking Buffy seriously in these type of situations. I criticize him (and everyone else) for not listening to all her (including the S7) speeches or any other moments like those. In _Storyteller,_ viewers even see Willow, with Andrew filming it, paying more attention to being lovey dovey with Kennedy than listening to Buffy's speeches. The other argument I’ve seen fans against Buffy say is to argue the fact that Buffy leaves willingly. The defense I have there is that it is the difference between a person resigning and a person getting fired. Resigning, in this case, is getting fired without the higher ups saying so. The argument of Buffy leaving on her own is Buffy "resigning" herself to the fact that she isn't The General anymore and doesn't want to in-fight, as The First wants. Its just another form of getting kicked aka "fired" from being The General because The Scoobies don't trust her leadership due to being scared because they haven't been taking Buffy seriously. Anya was one of four people who resurrected Buffy (the others being Willow, Tara and Xander) and therefore allowed The First to create the S7 plot of killing the slayer line. She, Giles and possibly Willow know this, so them blaming Buffy for anything happening, when the entirety of why its happenning is on their shoulders, is not okay. It is also a joke to have Anya say Buffy didn't earn the role of slayer or general, considering everything Buffy has done for them. The list on that, could go on for 104 hours and 34 minutes (the length of the series to this point). And on top of that, Anya didn't earn her power either. She was given it so she could murder, torture, etc., which she did through the power of the wish. Why did Giles call Buffy the general of the group if he was just going to undermine her at every decision he didn't like and toss her out when things went wrong? Buffy warned them all things like this would happen. Why weren't they listening? Post S6 Willow has a lot of nerve calling Buffy on a lack of judgement. Didn't the Scoobies (including Dawn) learn anything from when Joyce kicked Buffy out in S2? It's a good thing Buffy has grown emotionally since then. Too bad the group still don't trust Buffy any more, since then. Buffy brought up certain points to Xander during their Selfless fight about what it means to be The Slayer, so the fact that the group, in this episode, are throwing those moments in Buffy's face (those moments specifically being: cutting herself off, someone needing to draw a line, having no guide book to the job of a slayer [and there is a slayer guidebook/handbook, Giles just never gives it to her, so that one is on him], and fighting alone), shows, once again, The Scoobies haven't been listening to Buffy, even before the war with The First started about even the moments not involving The First and its war. Buffy learns from her mistakes. I don't always feel Xander and Willow do. If they still don't understand Buffy's decisions, and are throwing insults at her, I just don't feel they have learned what they should already know about Buffy seven seasons later. Buffy has learned from Giles' "this isn't a joke" chastisement in First Date, while none of the other Scoobies did, if they were recently going to The Bronze for fun. Giles himself seemed to revert, if he is urging the fun after the First Date chastisement, or at least he has an agenda of his own that goes against what he said when he called Buffy the general upon first showing up in Sunnydale. The group go against everything Buffy learned in First Date, Never Kill a Boy on the First Date and Reptile Boy when they kick Buffy out. Its also why I disagree why Buffy not listening to their needs. She's the general. That is not her job. And after how hard Giles came down on her and the group atll it looks like is backtracking to go to The Bronze if their doing it behind Buffy's back. The real problem is there are more reasons, like always when it comes to Scooby fights, to see Buffy's perspective over the people yelling at her. Buffy may or may not have a good idea in going back to the vineyard. Risky either way. Just like war always is. That is not the problem. And not a good reason for kicking her out even if it is a decent reason to choose to follow Faith instead. The real problem is Xander's eye is why they do so, and becomes a moment when the group finally realize Buffy has been right about the danger they have been ignoring her words on, and are taking it out on her because she is the General. I get that The Scoobies and SIT's are scared, but none of what they do in kicking Buffy out does anything except exactly what The First wants. I've stated in many episode reviews/reactions of many reaction watchers, I will always trust Buffy's slayer instincts over Scooby and Watcher instincts. This time is no different. That includes something being at the vinyard and listening to her after a failed attemp of something.

Speaking for myself, this is the reason I dislike Kennedy. I will admit she wasn’t my favorite from the start. I was trying to bd fair because I knew it was just missing Tara, but Kennedy is self-entitled and trying to run things. Buffy was spiraling but she was right. The potentials only wanted Faith for the reason she said. In the behind the scenes, the writers said Faith is the cool aunt and Buffy actually has to be the adult. Giles wanted to tell her to stop playing the general and being the general. but she was doing that, making the hard decision she knew they weren’t going to like. And I will say I respect Faith and felt bad for her. She got thrown into the deep end. But she wasn’t trying to betray Buffy.

If you sided against Buffy, you're wrong. And not just bcuz of how it turns out in the end but bcuz of everything that has happened before. The answer to Anya's question is yes, Buffy is better than all of them...at this. All of the Scoobs except Buggy have caved under the pressure when the going got tough. Willow and Anya couldn't handle loss and heartbreak and resorted to murder, Buffy killed her soulmate to save the world. As many times as Buffy has told Xander to stay back, he had to protect Buffy but get hurt one time and blames her after 7 years of experiences. Buffy heard a prophecy she was going to die at 16 and ran right into it and died to save the world. Giles is pissed bcuz she didn't follow his advice and some girls got killed even tho he had not problem sending this one girl to her death so many times before. Dawn is still mad that Buffy won't choose her vision told her even tho Buffy sacrificed herself to let the 3 month old energy key have a life. And Faith isn't the official Slayer, Faith went evil remember and if it wasn't for Buffy the Watcher's Council would have killed Faith long ago. Faith never stepped up to her responsibility and never would have. And she knows it. Robin is too new and still a bit biased bcuz of Buffy protecting Spike. Buffy was the only one who chose to not turn to the dark side when she had her lowest moment. She chose the pain instead of the bliss of the alternate reality and she did it on her own, Xander didn't have to convince her, Dahoffryn didn't have to take her powers, Angel didn't have rehab her. Buffy chose to confront her pain for the good of others. This is war with pure evil, the First. People were always going to die or be injured. And the first time they go into battle, they folded like a bunch of cocktail napkins. First time Buffy died and was revived, she got right up and went right back at the Master again and won. So yeah, Buffy is better than all of them. What makes her special and gives her the right to lead is the fact that she has stopped the world from ending 4 times, saved countless lives, kept each of them alive, made all the hard decisions and sacrificed love and happiness to do it. The only reason Buffy was flustered after Anya's question is that she knows she's better than them and she feels guilty for feeling that way. But she's not superior to them bcuz she is the Slayer but bcuz of what has chosen to do as the Slayer.

It’s correct that Buffy doesn’t have much of a plan, but they take it overboard with the personal attacks (especially from Anya) and then with the kicking out. It’s like ‘fine, good luck’. Doesn’t really help that by the end of the next one they’re somewhat relieved to see her

It's been over 2 decades and this end scene still pisses me off! None of those damn Scoobies deserve Buffy. Anya and Giles really piss me off. They learned the only reason ANY of this shit with the First is happening is because of Willow's "I use magic to deal with hard things" ass bringing Buffy back from the dead. And I am still trying to figure out how Anya thinks Buffy is luckier than the rest of them. Sure, dying twice, killing the love of your life, and your mom dying young sounds real lucky.

Buffy dies there are no more slayers, remember when she sacrificed herself. Nobody new. That’s because she technically ain’t the slayer, Faith is. When Faith dies it gets passed on down the line. Buffy is anomaly that shouldn’t exist. Slayers are usually alone, so when they are gravely wounded they die. But Buffy has her crew that helps her and brought her back, twice.

I HATE this episode. If anything, Buffy should’ve kicked them out. Not the other way around. This is her house. Not theirs. That’s all I have to say! I agree with nearly everyone here in the comment section. She died TWICE for them. They even brought her back FROM HEAVEN, when she didn’t want to come back because she said that this is hell. She fought and protected them all the damn time and even offered up her own freaking house for them. She opened it up when they had nowhere else to go, and she’s always been the one who knows exactly what she’s doing. She’s right, and they’re not. She’s been at this for far longer than they have. She has more experience, and yeah, she might be even better at this, so I get her feeling all superior about this because she is! We all know she has that Superiority Complex, so I get why people would start questioning her judgment, but she’s not wrong. She’s never been wrong. Buffy always said that being a Slayer is a solo job, something that you should be doing on your own, and she literally reminded them about that every single time, and it’s always been the same argument. But did they listen? No! She’s just too good for her own good and let people get involved because she knew she wanted them to be a part of this because of how big her heart is. She’s always been so caring, but all she gets in return is these ungrateful little brats. The only reason she’s lasted this long and is still alive is because of The Scoobies. I’ll always be on Buffy’s side. And I guarantee you all that if Tara were still alive, she’d have told everyone off too like Spike (I’m talking about this because they’re already far ahead with their reactions, so this isn’t a spoiler about Spike yelling at all of them in the next episode, which good for him! Thank you for speaking facts, king!), and that would have added a lot more impact because Tara has always been on Buffy’s side when the others haven’t been. She was always the person she was able to go to when she couldn’t talk to Willow or Xander during her depression in season 6, and even when they started getting even closer when Joyce died because they bonded over both their mothers dying. Also, I’d love to know Chris’s opinion on this moment, because I feel like he’d have something interesting to say, so I really hope he’s around for the last three.

I truly hate that they kicked her out. At the same time I'm not sure where else that scene was going to lead given she refused to acknowledge anyone else's leadership and said she wouldn't stand for it. The writers put them in this situation though where her closest friends betrayed her. I feel like the way to approach it would've been to ask her to take a walk or to take a break and come back, it's insane to 'kick out of the group' the actual Slayer when an apocalypse is happening. Asking for some space would've been more reasonable. It is contrived conflict though and it's never sat well with me, but they go back on it almost immediately so what was the purpose really in the end.

I agree. As much as people are frustated with Faith in this scene, her suggestion for Buffy to take a breath, to listen and connect more with the potentials seems pretty reasonable to me. They always say to never make drastic decisions when you are arguing with close ones and this is why. They are all letting their pride and personal issues get in the way of protecting themselves and other people. Honestly I do think this is something that could have been solved if they structured this season better, put this argument earlier in the season, cut some stories that don't contribute to the general arc and just focus to add as much tension as you can to the scoobies and the way they interact with each other so by the time this comes up, we can understand how they are not thinking straight and how much they are being impulsive while also giving much more time to them learning to listen to each other and for Buffy to connect more to the potentials beyond just being their boss.

Having someone else be the leader might have been the right decision, at least possibly, but I never got the 'kick her out of her own home and don't let her help' part. Aww you disappointed me, you did change your mind. Buffy was 100% correct, there was nothing and nobody at the seal which indicated it's not important. All the bad guys were at the vineyard which shows there is something going on there that is important. Buffy never said let's just barge in like we did last time, she said she was willing to talk strategy but the plan was the vineyard. Giles doesn't deserve her trust, he has betrayed, lied and abandoned her multiple times over the years. Xander loses an eye, yes tragic but he's been fighting demons and averting apocalypses and this is the first major injury (as far as I can remember) that he has sustained and he automatically turns his back on her, he should be thankful he's even alive! Anya's speech just makes me angry every time I hear it. Yes, Buffy didn't work to BE a slayer, yes her powers were given to her but she didn't ask or want it, it was forced on her and she has worked for and earned it every single time she goes out patrolling, every single time she fights for her life and the lives of others, every single time she has saved the world. Everybody else in that room who has power all got addicted to it and ended up being evil, Buffy never did, even when Dracula and Spike tried to tempt her to a darker place she still knew what was right and wrong and stayed on the side of good. Ther is so much more of this rant I want to say but this would end up being about 7 paragraphs long lol

The slayer power is explained earlier as diluted down from the first slayer, residual demon energy, and as stated buffy was given a chance to get a demon in her like the first but don't blame her saying no thinking she'd go feral, seeing how it affected angel etc. They also explain this when think it was spike discussing that the first demons to walk earth were pure full 100% demon, and similarly water down their blood by mixing with humans for generations

I think the couch is fine to question whether going back to the vineyard is the correct choice because it is risky and the wounds are fresh! People are questioning her judgement and I think if they were able to make a solid plan this time and Buffy approached them with the plan it would have gone over better. But also the couch disagrees with them kicking her out and the “not earned” comment so we are all on the same page. Anya’s “luckier than us” speech is so odd to me because I’m like when has this show ever painted being the slayer as something lucky? It’s ALWAYS been a burden that Buffy was forced to accept. She certainly earned the right to be the leader and has always made the tough choices. This season is a much harder Buffy because of what she’s been through and Giles pisses me off because he’s pushing her to be serious and make the tough calls but when her choices don;t alone with his, he doesn’t support her all of a sudden. This whole episode is a point of contention for most Buffy fans because of how ridiculous it is for them to turn on her after everything she’s done for them. The terrible part is trying to usurp her and kicking her out. Disagreeing with a strategy is okay and Buffy did need to recognize she was being hasty but the gang just took it too far.

Which is a strange question? if she takes issue with how slayers are picked that is something she should take up with the council lol I don't see why it matters how she was chosen, or why the others were chosen? she's led them for seven years and now she has a problem? doesn't make sense to me. I get her being upset with going back, but to bring up the reason she is a slayer is just petty. Anya just seems extra bitter this season tbh. Also, what did Anya do to get her powers? did one spell on one guy to turn him into a troll?

Faith IS the slayer not the 2nd. Lots of newbies miss this. Explanation: Buffy died so kendra came. Kendra died so Faith came. Faith is alive so Faith is the slayer. Essentially Buffy is a weird zombie slayer lol - she upset natural order of things coming back - explained in episode with the eye and Giles - we don't yet know how natural order of things are affected. Luckily, good team has 2 slayers now though :) I think newbies think this way cos of all talk how she died went to heaven and forget she also died in S1/kendra was new slayer "you were technically dead". Hope this helps :)

I never understood this episode, the need to have this ignoble betrayal of all his loved ones, and the worst for me is that in the end, none of them will pay the price, and welcome him as if nothing had happened, without addressing it again. Frankly, they all deserve, especially Dawn and Willow (Xander is hurt, not lucid, and Gilles is upset about the story with Spike, so that they turn against her is not inconsistent) to get a slap in the face.

The last few episodes of the S7 had so much going on it was hard to keep up. The way they all turned against Buffy after all she had done for them over the years was so painful to watch at the time. Kennedy and Rhona were utterly despicable, along with the rest of the Scooby Gang. All this leads up to the brilliance of the last few episodes, super writing again, but Andrew is still utterly irritating if entertaining also. Spike reading the scripture, brilliant foreshadowing here. Buffy is of course right they always try to protect the power, they must return to the vineyard, there is a reason for Caleb wanting to defend it. This episode is all about the meeting in Buffy's house this is so difficult to watch with Dawn striking the final blow, after Buffy laid down her very life to save her. We know there is only one who will stand by Buffy, even though he is not at the meeting he has read the scripture 'it is not for thee, it is for her alone to wield'.

The scoobies kicking Buffy out pissed me off when I first watched it. But this episode has aged much better for me, compared to the "zombie" episode (I think it's 3x02) after Buffy comes back to Sunnydale (after being KICKED OUT by her own mother). These are two of the Buffy episodes that piss me off the most, but what they did in that one (3x02) is inexcusable. In this one, you can see the Scoobies' point of view, even if I strongly disagree with kicking Buffy out of the house. But it pays off in 7x20 and 7x21 (for Buffy), so it kinda makes up for this. By comparison, in that episode of season 3, they're just nasty towards Buffy and they just... move on from that.

Anya was SO out of line by saying that Buffy was "luckier" than them. She sees it that way because she liked having powers. But Buffy has not had a "lucky" life. She sacrificed a man she loved and her own life twice. I get that they were all scared, and I agree that Buffy was ready to rush in and repeat the same mistake. She knows what death is like and I think she was a little reckless with their lives because of it. But, kicking her out is wild. Dawn had no right to do that.

Although I love watching these...I CAN wait if it lets more of the team make it back to the couch for the big finale. and I'm sure a lot of others are okay with a little delay so that more can join in for the big finish. As for the girls...they kept arriving as time wore on, because on their own they are just targets, more vulnerable alone than as a team. Obviously, they aren't full slayers and have no powers...but a squad is still safer than a loner. The hellmouth is radiating so much low grade evil that the whole town is leaving or turning violent, even the cops are just a gang now...and civilization is crumbling slowly, enough that even most sensible demons are giving Sunnydale a pass for awhile...not a good sign. Buffy may or may not be onto something with Caleb...but at the end of the day she asked people who watched death and dismemberment last time, "Hey, how bout a second frontal assault? Maybe we'll get lucky." ...and they kind of freaked out. Ideally, maybe the way to pitch it wasn't as they look at Xander's patched eye. The team has all taken injuries...but permanent disfigurement wasn't in the brochures. It brought home in the last season that her team of friends are more vulnerable and have been very lucky across 6+ years...and Caleb is NOT a gentlemanly enemy. What I loved...was Buffy's willingness to step back and hand the torch to Faith...one Slayer to another. It isn't just ego...she's learned a lot in 7 years, and S7 Buffy is more adaptable than S1 Buffy could ever have been. She isn't a high school kid anymore...she's a boss that doesn't lose sight of the endgame: prevent apocalypse by whatever means are necessary and available.

I always came down on the side of everyone else even though I knew Buffy's intuition was right. She needed to come with more than "we're going back". I'm with Xander. I want to be with you but I need to know why this time will be different. I do feel like kicking her out was a bit much. That doesn't really feel like the Scoobies. But it had to be done so Spuffy could have that moment so I can forgive the writers. But absolutely I was with everyone else on what they should do next. But also, I feel like all of this HAD to happen. The full frontal assault didn't work and likely wouldn't work again. So it had to be a more covert operation. And Buffy needed Spike's belief in her to restore her confidence. She clearly was also having doubts in herself....why else would she continually try to ignore Xander's disfigurement? If she allowed herself to really accept the responsibility for Xander it would break her like Glory kidnapping Dawn did.

The final scene is dumb. I understand the Potentials don't trusting Buffy (they barely know her), but the Scoobies know her. So OOC from them. I think JW wrote this scene to have some drama, like we don't have enough of that. The episode following this will happened just the same without this stupid scene. Buffy is right; ok, she doesn't have a full-formed plan, but neither the others. Or Faith. So stupid of them.
