My memory of season 7 is so all over the place for some reason lol, i always thought Faith was in it for much longer than just the last couple of episodes. Guess it shows how much of a presence she has lol.

Oh no, they did a LOT with Faith in the few episodes they had. It's almost like head-snapping the arc they give her with not much time. I mean this episode alone set up a LOT. They hit on basically every connection she had with the characters that you could AND fit in a huge action sequence too. This episode did some work.

Probably because Faith had a lot of importance. She had her episodes in Angel then immediately finishes out Buffy. She actually was doing a lot in the Buffyverse at this time.

Actually, I disagree. Faith's real redemption arc was played by Sarah Michelle Gellar in "Who Are You" on Buffy. That's where Faith really changes. Angel is just her breaking down and she does the putting-herself-back-together stuff off-camera.

Nathan Fillon was brilliant on Serenity playing Malcom Reynolds. Then it got cancelled and I was pissed off. Then Joss brought him onto Buffy as Caled and I became un-pissed off. Is the First not allowed to have a sense of fun BTW. Also here is where you realize Sarah Michelle Gellar plays evil so well.

There was a bit of foreshadowing about Xander's eye in that conversation he had with Dawn (when she pointed out that "seeing" was his power). He even dressed up as a pirate with an eyepatch in the Halloween episode of season 5. Off topic: if you guys miss the show when you finish it, I highly recommend you checking out Whedon's run in the X-Men comics. The humor, bantering and group dynamics are 100% Buffy.

The girl that follows Caleb into the dark and then falls dead on the floor - that was the girl The First was posing as to infiltrate them, just before Chloe died. Giles was right - they knew absolutely nothing about this guy. I think it would have been valid to bring the girls in if Buffy had scouted him first, had seen what he could do. They went in unprepared with no plan other than fight. She wasn't this reckless with Glory, why did she do that with this guy?

Agreed, and I feel the same way for Faith only in the final five as well- though they give her some really good material in the fourth Angel season that led to this, so that's altogether almost half a season of content for her this year in the franchise. Something I never really thought much into was how the most devout followers to The "Evil", the Bringers, are all blinded. From a moralist perspective, I like that. I also thought it was interesting how The First Evil's man Friday is a priest, deluded in all his sophism. That was an interesting decision.

Not just about training, it's about finding out what you're up against. Unfortunately... Buffy decided she didn't need to find that out. End result being injuries, 2 deaths, Xander losing and eye. Buffy was wrong and should have listened to the others.

Nah, I'm with Rana. Remember, almost every Scooby was against this. Xander & Giles wanted to figure out who the hell he is. Buffy was TOO eager. She swung too hard & Caleb just counter-punched everything she had. And now look at them. Half the potentials are dead or busted up now & certainly don't believe in Buffy even after what Xander said. Xander is missing an eye!! Buffy & Willow may be BFFs but before Buffy there was Xander so I imagine Willow is gonna be pretty upset that Buffy rushed into danger without knowing. Buffy absolutely took an L just now. Probably the hardest she's ever taken. But so far she's always gotten back up and on top. It's gonna be FUN!!!

@@shootingreal5945 It's like, on one hand, totally understandable to be tired of always being on the defense and the Potentials actually do need some field time, but on the other, unknown enemy who set a very obvious trap. Buffy thought they could overpower whatever threat came their way as if she forgot how tough her fight with ubervamps were. The enemies could only get tougher from there, right? But also, who could imagine that a priest could easily take down 2 slayers and a vampire?

I agree with Buffy (and Pat & Suraj) on this ! Even if it's a trap, they needed to go ! They had a plan, a double attack and powerful beings on their side. They need to test the potentials and make sure he doesn't have anything of hers ! Not only that, but they only took the potentials that were there for longer, and are the most trained ! Also, WHAT WOULD RESEARCH DO ??? Giles is wrong on this. Because, even if they found out that the guy is crazy and killed a lot of girls... There was nothing they could have found or done to prepare them for the strength he's got ! I mean, he's human !!! They wouldn't find anything about his strength no matter what ! So considering the other enemies were Bringers, which even Dawn can take one on one... This was the perfect occasion to test the girls in real combat !! Better than the Uber vamps that they'll HAVE TO fight soon (I mean, Buffy knows what is waiting for them, an army of those things. She doesn't have the luxury to wait for them to all be ready, or for them to have all the intel. Especially because they can't have all the intel !!) ! So yes, the fight got bad and they had to flee. Some died, some were injured. They are in a war against demons and evil itself ! I'm actually amazed Xander didn't die those past 7 years. So... I don't think it was a bad idea. Or that the plan wasn't good. I think they just met an enemy stronger than they are. That's not a mistake, that's life ! You can't always be stronger than the opposite side. They should know ! They've lost people along the way, after all...

The First does not care, it was just chilling with Caleb and letting Caleb live out his sadistic memories. I mean that why would you not let your most powerful human servant have some fun? edit: The First cannot die, feel pain, feel anything although it has a goal. The most you can do to The First is mess up its plans and it retreats sorta, it is always there, and works out a new plan.

Buffy was not wrong to take them into battle. People die and get injured in battle. It doesn't mean it was a mistake. Buffy has proved over 7 years and as many apocalypses that her instincts have always been correct. The fact that the Scoobies have survived intact this far is solely due to Buffy's instincts. They needed to find out what they were up against and what was at the Vineyard. There was NEVER a guarantee that there wouldn't be casualties. Can you imagine saying it was the wrong call to attack the Mayor because Larry, Harmony, and others were killed? People need to man up, grow up and step up in war. Buffy can't be expected to only risk her own life and somehow protect all others. That's not how war works.
