That part of the epistle is saying. We aren't saved by works. Meaning the work of the jewish law. Sacrifices, circumcision which is named later in verse 14 on. Right in verse 10 he says we were created in Christ to all good works. It is dangerous to look at a verse alone. As it was not written in verses and chapters. It was one whole letter. In order to get the whole context. If we understand it in its context James saying "I'll show you my faith by my works is more clearly understood. It was also said we shall be rewarded according to what your works shall be. So eph 8 and 9 cant mean what some are preaching. We cant work our way in. But they do count. Righteousness is not word. Not stealing, not lying, not fornicating is not work. But its twisted to mean that.
