One thing my late husband taught me is that when you paint an already painted surface, you have to sand it to rough up the surface for the new paint will stick. After you sand, wipe with a tack cloth or a lightly damp cloth to remove the debris. Then your new paint will adhere much better.

Our big fail was without first house. We really enjoyed all of the DIY options offered us, and I find painting to be a very rewarding project. For very little $, and a bit of patience and time, there can be an immediate result, so we painted all of the rooms of that house. The kitchen was a struggle to pick a color that worked with the cabinets, etc, and we settled on a “salmon” color that we thought would work. At the end of the painting, we told ourselves it would dry to be a slightly different color, but it was just pink, which really wasn’t what we wanted. A couple of years later, we painted it a Williamsburg Palace Parlor Cream, and didn’t know why we waited so long to “fix” that mistake!

I can relate Lisa! We had a similar experience with exterior paint on our first house. 🤦♀️ It was too expensive to correct, so we lived with it for several years and we were so excited when we could fix it! 😂💙

I had a HUGE collection of books and I needed to really be ruthless in getting rid of some. On some KZbin channel, I can’t remember which one, a woman said to use the method of “If I lost this book in a fire would I want to repurchase it?” Using this question I was able to go through thousands of books. Now all my books that I’d repurchase are in two bookshelves and the rest have been donated so that others can either find a new favorite or they can repurchase a beloved book. I’m so grateful for that advice and I’d recommend that method to anyone.

Thank you for sharing Robin. We have recently visited a clinical nutritionist who told us that interestingly, there is no such thing as a pure gluten free grain. We have all been completely grain (including oats and rice), processed oil and sugar free. The health gains, including our son's ASD and tics have been incredible!!! He is like a different child. We all have so much more energy. We have tried gluten free before but never completely grain free. It has made a huge difference and has been an easier switch than we first thought. Your home is looking amazing btw. what a speedy transformation.🏡💛🌻

We visited Rosemary Cottage Clinic, Bognor Regis here in the U.K. There is a wealth of information on their website and blog. Also, Afifah Hamilton (the nutritionist) has a few useful videos on KZbin. I helped another mum in the U.S. via FB. She has tried the diet on her son. He had so many gains too! Great video, Robin! I applaud all of you who have commented about your DIY fiascos...I'm the type who is too hesitant to even try! Also, I found the spider part comical...I always say, "I don't hate spiders. I just hate being SURPRISED by them." 😂 One winter, we had a beetle in the house. They sometimes come in during the winter months and my thinking is that if it has been this resourceful and has survived this long, then it deserves to live with us. It became a joke between my husband and I. We'd get up and say, "I wonder where the beetle is today?" I had to draw the line when it managed to find its way onto the kitchen counter -- it blended right in with the granite counter. I screamed and then wondered what to do...I couldn't put it outside, as it was about -20 degrees Celsius. So, I placed it on a piece of cardboard and put it down in the spare bathroom in our basement since nobody ever goes down there. I still don't know what happened to it but I'd like to think that he found his way out again come Spring!

I did get a good laugh over the mirror and I think the way it ended up is great. Our DIY story is a rocking chair we stained and finished, and boy did that dry wood absorb the stain, we had to really work to remove it and get it lighter. But that was 43 years ago and we still have the rocker.

Hi Robin, Years ago one house we lived in I wanted to perk up the kitchen on a tiny budget. We painted the existing cabinets white and they looked great. I chose a beige formica countertop because at the time we couldn't afford granite or quartz. The beige countertops were installed and they looked like a pale pink. My kitchen looked like a candy/ice cream shop! I made the best of it and we lived with that for about 6 years. Then we got granite countertops and that looked so pretty. Thanks so much for the fun video. Have a Happy 4th of July! xo, Karen

I think you did a beautiful job with each of your efforts on the mirror…the silver, the rubbed multi-toned black, and the soft French gold which is becoming the go-to metal color now. You can’t go wrong with any of them! I know you are interested in a clean look for your kitchen and your changes in location for your dishware made a lot of sense. You may want to consider adding a set of open shelving, an open-shelved or glass fronted cabinet, or another solid cabinet to the wall right of the sink for additional storage, ease of function to set the table and/or to create a (lit) display area. You can even consider a cabinet that goes to the counter for additional drawers for silverware and napkins to make the most of a typically unused/underutilized space. Just a designer tip from a tenet of ‘form follows function’. ;-) Love all your great tutorials on home cooking and baking bread, and showcasing safe cleaning products. All goals I’m working towards. The relaxing atmosphere you add to our home every Sunday is a delight I look forward to. Thank you! 🌸

Hi Robin! I have a good tip for the mayo… It has probably already been said in the prior comments but I see you have 289 comments at the time I am writing this and did not go back and read them all. If you have an immersion blender mayonnaise is simple to make directly in the Mason jar! I’m sure you can find a recipe online. Also was wondering why you didn’t use avocado oil versus the olive oil?? I saw the primal kitchen was made with avocado oil. Just curious! I’m guessing because the olive oil has a better flavor?? Hope you have a great week thanks for sharing all the tips and tricks in this video!!!

Great progress and the recipes looked delicious. I'll probably use chalk paint since it's more forgiving. When we painted our old house you could see all of my brush strokes so Lee painted the rest of the time. I spent Wednesday with Daniel. We went on a walk and lost his child tracker. Fortunately someone turned it into the local bakery and we got it back. My niece Serenity had surgery to remove excess fluid from her bust. Fortunately they realized something was wrong. I would have thought it was just regular growing pain as it does hurt when they get bigger. I know since I gained a cup size every other year from 1993 to 2015 and up two cup sizes when I gave birth to Daniel and Thomas. Yesterday had to take Daniel to the doctor to get a medicine for his rash. He may have gotten into some poison ivy. The previous day he started scratching his face and yesterday one side was swollen. Otherwise he feels fine. Corie got another Dachshund. I was petting it and when I tried to pick her up, she tried to bite me. I've never experienced that when picking up small dogs. I'm at work right now, but am not scheduled to clock in for about two more hours. Mom clocks in three hours before I do and she's my ride for now.

I always love your videos Robin! I love a black mirror ... I actually have 3 in our home that accent our home decor very well. Appreciated the Rub n' Buff tutorial - I have heard so much about it but have never used it. And last but not least thank you for the gluten free tortilla recipe. I'm GF and always looking for dinner ideas and recipes. Take care Robin - and I think the dishes in the drawer are a great idea!!
