This is not about someone trying to replace a rock icon. Arnel's story is a ray of hope for an entire planet full of people who have been as far down as they can be that there is always another chapter to every story. Anyone who's ever tried to sing this material will tell you it's nearly impossible, including Arnel himself. He's humble, kind and extremely talented. I can assure you that if he wasn't worthy of taking this gig it would have never been offered to him. Honestly, I don't think even Steve could do what Arnel is doing now. Singing those high notes with power is a young man's game. I salute Arnel. Don't stop believin' brother!

I think this was the very same set that the US Consul saw before he met Arnel in the embassy the next Monday. The consul who was very amazed of his voice's range and almost Steve Perry-like. If you think about it, he would never have his visa application approved if the consul did not hear him perform in this joint. Destiny? Cool. I'm inspired. Thank you, Arnel!

Desiree is correct - this was one of the videos Schon watched - he had already auditioned two Perry clones Hunsicker and Hugo Vox (Voyager) and rejected them because they were too much like Steve Perry - he wanted someone who could do the old but "carry on the legacy" while taking the band to a new place internationally - he succeeded

I agree with Jeffery Aquino, he is not trying to be like Steve, if you listen to other songs he sang by other great singers he is not trying to be like them. Let's not be too hasty judging this man's future. It's quite unjustifiable the resentment and hostility being inflicted upon this man's being. It seems apparent that he is being persecuted sharing his God's given talent to the world. Arnel has an extraordinary gift and we should be grateful that it is being shared with love and dedication. His voice has been like that eversince since he started & actually even gotten better. While most prominent vocalists couldn't sing their own songs in the original key anymore or their throat is not just at its best anymore, Arnel has honed & mastered & perfected his vocal techniques/skills over the years. And only God-gifted talents with good intentions like him can do that. He is indeed 1 in a billion.

Arnel Pineda is already a legend in the LIVE BANDS music scene in the Philippines. Well-respected & a natural-born talent. I've never met him personally but my brother & his band did esp. during the AMO Band years & only heard great & overwhelming things about him. I just saw him singing a "HEART" song while passing by this club one time & I was totally blown away. It's true what they say about him. IMPAKTO talaga, 'ika nga. Mala-out of this world baga.

Most people don't understand or refuse to understand that what Arnel does is not that easy. I mean, can you believe this guy's throat? Imagine, he's the only vocalist & he sings all these high songs esp. these "HEART" songs WITH EASE. Not putting so much effort & yet the voice leaves such a strong impression. And that, almost every night for like 2-3 hours or more of singing. This guy has a SUPERTHROAT!!!

A friend told me she remembered Arnel singing in a bar in HongKong decades ago when Arnel was probably in his 20’s? the bar was always jammed packed and overflowing with audience to watch and listen to him sing. And those American Navy personnel based in the Philippines who used to frequent the bar where Arnel used to sing because they thought he sounded so authentic to them. Even then people recognised his talent.

I think both men are equally amazing people. While it's true that Steve Perry made the face of Journey, I think Arnel has done a great job keeping the music alive. While I prefer to listen to Perry, I don't have a problem listening to Pineda. It's Randy Jackson that I wish would shut up! :)
