Makes freeze dried food look like an everyday prepared meal solution.

We cooked ours in a casserole dish, using ground turkey, froze it then cut it up, placed it on the trays, squished down a little, and it was in for 35 hours. We vacuum packed all of it. It reconstitutes beautifully.

When putting the meat into the bowl a little teeny bit of beef ended up on the bottom right of the table. It was nice seeing it stay there the whole time. Made this all seem more real and down to earth. I could almost smell the shepherds pie through the TV and over the last couple of years! It looked like there was room at the top of the tin, you probably could have used more meat & fixings without changing much. The potatoes would have still fit, just needed a smaller bag. Hope you’re doing ok, it’s been a week since your last video on or about 4/11/2024. I was getting used to seeing them more often. Was I just spoiled? 🤔

Thanks, since you are a regular commenter I am going to overlook this one time. I choose to try and see positivity in the world (think Thumper from Bambi) In general I just remove negative comments. We tend to see what we are looking for. If someone is looking for mistakes in my videos they will surely find them. I am a simple guy that likes to freeze dry. Not a professional. My brother passed away last Saturday so I may not be posting for awhile. We were very close and he lived with me.

Oh! So sorry for your loss! I had a feeling he lived with you, I assumed it was he watching or listening to something in the background of so many of these videos. Keep in mind, he’s technically in many of these videos if not in the same room his spirit is felt! I do recall the one where you asked him to taste test. I think that’s him in your early video when you got the freeze dryer. I wasn’t disparaging your video. I’m Autistic and was focused on something is all. I apologize if it seemed mean 😢. I have Aspergers which makes talking to others difficult. It never occurred to me that perhaps I have a problem typing too.

Shepherds Pie, but no lamb? I think this is "Cottage Pie". Still great stuff, but given the choice, I prefer lamb. Then again, when my wife makes "Shepherds Pie", it's almost always with leftover lamb roast, so cut up pieces, not ground/minced lamb like it's supposed to be. As for the last bit, I watch a number of channels that do freeze drying, but if/when we get a HarvestRight freeze dryer ourselves, I'll try to remember to use the affiliate link for this one. Oddly enough, I just now started wondering about freeze drying roast duck. That may be too high-fat to freeze dry, but I don't know. I'll have to search that. Thanks, John, for your videos.

How long would you store this? I would be concerned with "plasticizing" for long term.
@JohnInBibs3 жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with the term plasticizing........ The interior bag I used is food grade, and does not actually come into contact with the food unless you are talking about the ziploc bag for the potatoes. Mylar bags are made with a polyester (plastic) coating so I think it is ok.
@ellenclayton59553 жыл бұрын
Plasticizing is when plastic (like ziploc bags) breakdown over time and a chemical reaction begins. It causes your food to be inedible. But if this is going to be just for short-term meaning only a year or so then it will be safe. Long-term it would not be.
@ellenclayton59552 жыл бұрын
@@nanmaco I have thought about trying that myself. I tried researching as well but couldn't find anyone else that had tried it.
@JohnInBibs2 жыл бұрын
I just want to add my 2 cents worth. For the zipplock bag to degrade I am pretty sure it needs at least 2 things. Oxygen and light. Am I wrong?
@ellenclayton59552 жыл бұрын
@@JohnInBibs have you ever been cleaning out your garage and find plastic stuff in a box somewhere and it is getting sticky? That is what's going on. No light, minimal oxygen.
@dsbennett3 жыл бұрын
There's still lots of air in the aluminum pan. It would be more effective to vacuum seal the ingredients in a bag, then put that bag into the aluminum pan with the bread stuff.
