Hey Faizal, I highly recommend getting a motorcycle or a scooter. Its one of the best things to have as a photographer to get around to new spots and not feel locked into where you are. Its also a very awesome way to see new spots and just crusing around at a slow pace, turning at every road or alley that you dont know where it leads, really gives you a sense of adventire and exploration that i find just walking around or training doesnt give you. Its also awesome if you know there are a few areas that might be too far or uncomfortable to go by foot. I littlerally ride my motorbike with my camera slung around my neck, tucked jnto my jacket ready to take pics at new spots i ride to. You can even just pull up and snap a pic and keep riding. Its fun and gives a really sense of freedom and exploration over driving. You should really consider it. Im in Melbourne but would kill to be able to do this around New York or any region of America to be honest.

Couldn't relate more! The thing about new places is that if you shoot them enough they become more and more familiar and you find yourself back where you were at the start. Trying to see the same places with new eyes is difficult but a skill in itself!

Feeling the same thing. I moved to the UK about 2 years ago to a small town in Yorkshire county, leaving Portugal with a depression and burnout from my previous job, I wish I could have photographed more places from my home town, Porto. Now, here I only have photographed the same places... Sometimes I struggle to pick up the camera and leave the house to discover new places, even though I love to photograph. These videos really help to push forward. 💪

I agree Faizal, getting out and walking down a street that you have never been down can be enough to open up new images. Getting on a bus that you haven't been on before, and getting off at an unplanned stop is another way...always an inspiration watching your videos, keep them coming!

Oh the irony of listening to this video as I literally drive to the small town adjacent to my town to find something new to photograph.👍🏻

I felt this way recently. I live in a town 45 minutes outside of Houston, but I feel like I’ve photographed everything near me. Sometimes it’s just a matter of going down a street you haven’t been down before, or at a time you don’t normally go. Perhaps even challenging yourself to only capture or look for one color, or subject matter. I thinks it’s just about shifting the mindset you have when going out with your camera.

Same thing for me not wanting to watch something new on KZbin. I love photography, but I just couldn’t force myself to start watching videos about it on KZbin, as a stupid fear of unknown (just needed to click on the video). Now I’m all in, not understanding why I didn’t do it earlier. Thanks for what you’re doing, creating and simply for your existence, Faizal 💜

Living in a small town in England (very uninspiring for photography), I'd love to visit New York. I went to Boston back in 1999 whilst on Honeymoon and would love to return with my camera. Retirement is not too far away...

What a wonderful video! The music just made it so good. I've definitely been thinking the same things and always going to that loop of but what if I was somewhere else I'd be more inspired. I guess it's a little different, living in a really small city compared to a metropolitan. If I go down town that means the real possibility of running into people you know and there's something to be said about just being able to wander around aimlessly with your camera completely anonymously, there's less stress and anxiety. I have started to go to nearby cities and most importantly trying to go to different parts of those cities, like just stopping at a different metro stop and discovering a new part of town I've never been to, that sort of thing. Always trying to think of something to spark inspiration.

Yup, I live in Bangkok which is awesome for street, but I’ve gotten tired of shooting the same places over and over. Most of the time new places don’t have a ton to offer, but when you find a hidden gem it’s so worth the struggle it took to unearth it.

I just got a second-hand Fujifilm X-T20. I was looking for something light, that I could carry with me anywhere. That's the most difficult part of photography for me: actually getting out. Then... it just happens. Thanks Faizal, love the content you create!

Oh, man, I loved Boston! The food, the buildings and the vibe. Too bad I wasn't doing the street photography thing back then as much as I do today. I snapped a few photos on my original X100, but nothing good. I need to go back one day.

I live in a fairly small city in the middle of the USA that's nothing but strip malls and urban sprawl. Truly an ugly and uninspiring place for a photographer. I feel like if I lived in a big city, regardless of which one the possibilities would be endless. And then I watch your video and I think here's a guy who lives in a big city complaining about a very similar thing. But I get it. I feel like most photographers are always looking for something new to give them inspiration.

When I don't know what to shoot... 1. I re-visit familiar spots near my home, trying to look for something interesting from different angles. Sometimes, all you need is a little change in light. 2. I don't take photos at all. Time to do another hobby (watching movies, reading, games etc). Or just sleep. The latter happens most likely 80% of the time :D

Great video and great advice! I often make myself go to new places in NYC that I haven't been...really takes some effort. I need some photography friends! My regular friends don't like tagging along my photo sessions... If you have any advice on a place some photographers hang out, that would be great. Thanks again for sharing your journey. Love it.

Leave it to Faizal to put my thoughts into words. I'm living out of a suitcase right now, traveling full-time, and very aware that when I stop my work could suffer. The inevitable transition from 'new place all the time' to 'same place all the time'... from being spoiled constantly by my environment, to getting bored with it again- could be rough. "I am very much an environmentally-inspired photographer". Yep, me too haha.

Hi Faizal, wonderful, wonderful video. You have plenty of talent for photography and filmmaking. Yes, going to the same places can get boring real quick. Our brains need new information to stay fresh. Btw, I loved the filmic quality of your video camera. Which video camera did you use for most shots in this video? I know you have a few of them, but it appears you did not use your Panasonic because the footage was a little shaky. Again, thank you Faizal and keep up the great work. Your work is inspiring.

Dude.. honestly can't imagine feeling sameness vibes in NYC. I've been trekking just Manhattan for a few years straight now and I don't get that feeling for a moment. Half the time when I do end up back in the same area, it's changed entirely again. And I still have the other boroughs to hit. Kinda alludes to you chasing something else? Did I see a 90/4 in one shot? I love that lens, yet literally never see it on anyone else's camera.

As a filmmaker, photographer and native Lisbon citizen, I cannot, for the life of me, see anything compelling about Lisbon. It has some interesting corners, like any other city, but as a whole, it is downright visually repulsive. I know you where here recently and should be uploading new videos with ruminations on your trip shortly. Looking forward to seeing those, I guess.
