The golden age of reggae music was the 70s - early 80s, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Jimmy Clif, Gregory Issac, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, U-Roy, Steel Pulse, Desmond Dekker, Mighty Diamonds The golden age of Soul/"R&B" was the Motown era of the 60s-70s. what i remember from 92-95 was Pac being a struggling rapper. During that time Snoop was all over MTV, he was performing live at these major award shows such as the 94 VMAs and the AMAs. Snoop was the first one getting top billing, he got the Source Lyricist of the year award, even at the House of Blues and Gung Arena concert it was always Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound headlining with special guest Tha Outlawz and 2pac opening. pac even stated numerous times in interviews that he's not feeling the love. He mention feeling snubbed and complaining about not getting awards or invites to perform. Asking why is it he has to die before everybody suddenly give him his flowers and say he's great and al that. He always felt like he had to fight to earn the same accolades and respect as others. That's why he was so vengeful when he came out of prison cuz all these Comic View comedians, late night talk show hosts, and rappers were clowning Pac that he went soft and got raped in jail. While Pac was alive he didnt win any awards and didn't get invited to perform at any major ceremony. Even Biggie won a meaningless Image award and Soul Train award. they couldnt even give Pac that. The dear mama track deserve an award. Towards the end of his life in 1996 he did eclipse Snoop though and surpassed him after he died

Tha Dogg Pound. Their Dogg Food album sold 278,000 copies in its first week compared to 2pac's Me Against the World with 240,000 copies in the first week. hell pac wasn't even the biggest act that year, Bone Thugs N Harmony sold 307,000 copies their first week and that was before Tha Crossroads. that's nothing compared to Snoop's 806,858 copies in his first week. all that shows is that there was weak competition that week. Beating out Bruce Springsteen's compilation album doesn't mean shit. just cuz he white doesnt mean he big time. most of yall dont even listen to the boss p diddy got 2 number 1 albums, and the rapper The Game got 4 number 1 albums. what that tell u? having a coveted number 1 album aint all that impressive

The level Snoop was on in 94, 2pac was already on that level if not higher with his movie star status alone. Snoop just had a bigger album in 94 than PAC. Snoop album dropped in 93. He didn’t drop another album until end of 96. Tupac had Thug Life in 94 MATW in 95 AEOM end of 95/96.

@@RiccFBA Pac wasn’t no “movie star” in 94. How old are you??In 94 hadn’t reached “super star” status. He was bubbling up fast but he wasn’t a “superstar”. My friend was an engineer at Death Row, and the 2pac n Snoop friction first started over studio time, as 2pac had carte blanche to basically kick people out of their sessions if he wanted to work. So Snoop wasn't happy because he was the MAN at Death Row, n once Pac got there, Pac QUICKLY became the priority, and on more than one occasion took Snoop's recording time. So Snoop WAS the man there, until he quickly wasn't...

tbh, its hard because Snoop was top tier from 1993-late 1995, although he put out Doggystyle in late 93’, he was already a force when he appeared on The Chronic. he still was on ABTR Soundtrack, Murder Was the Case Soundtrack and made Death Row unstoppable w/ the Dogg Pound. by late 95/early 96, it was 2Pac time. he was the same as KD going to the Warriors, Death Row was already a cemented label as far as notoriety and popularity. Pac reign aint last too long though. Snoop still was fighting that case while Pac was carrying Death Row at the time.

I’ll say, from 92-94 Snoop was on top of the game, but by 95 when Tupac was dealing with all the shit he was dealing with he became more well known and controversial and when he dropped Me Against The World and Dear Mama, he pretty much solidified himself as a versatile superstar and by late 95 when California Love dropped he took over as the biggest rapper on Death Row. At that point Snoop ain’t have a hit record until he made one with Tupac with Gangsta Party, before that his last hit record was probably Gin and Juice and that was in 93-94. By the time All Eyez On Me dropped Tupac was probably the biggest rapper in the game next to Biggie
