The original text of e.g. the Bible is incapable of being copyrighted, but I believe all new translations usually are. Organized religions still have their own business rackets. I think Scientology comes in first for that, though (per capita).

@@WDC_OSAAs an actual Christian, I think that translation stuff is a racket. I sort of understand, as a religion with as many sects as there are, you don’t really want to have someone take your translation, and add in their fanfic in between Psalms and Proverbs. Seems straightforward. I understand the justification that your translations publication and licensing might. Might. Go to the cost of its ongoing translation, and other supposedly good works. I also understand the ones who did the work, should be paid for work. Being a Scholar is not glamorous, and most Scholars don’t have to necessarily become Catholic Clergy and swear off sex because it’s something something holy. They’ve got kids and dogs, and hobbies. Medical bills. A life. However the rights holders, and amount of petty crap that does happen, suggests that ain’t the calculation. It’s is a significant income. The rights are held closely. And I don’t see the part where a non-profit can’t give its employees astronomical salaries. We know what’s going on here. Religion looks good in a private jet, up in the clouds.

But we can study religions/cults and reduce them to non-toxic principles if we explain away the folklore and expose the lies of their "elites". You know, the stories that HAVE TO BE taken on faith. If something can be a big story and they can find evidence and people that will be on the record, a story will be written. But Leah Remini and all the ex-Scientology member speaking out about them and Tom Cruises connection makes them a big story. The reason it is perfectly natural to mention it and even negligent to not provide this important detail, is painfully obvious It always kills me how Scientology and Scientologists so often make such insanely asinine assertions, so publicly. They capitalize on the fact that within polite society, folks will typically not come right out and call out a childishly dim argument as that, but they don't ever fool ANYBODY. So petty, so small, so deceitful and tricksy. A thing that poses itself as a religion here, and the sole font of true wisdom there, so consistently being just too obtuse for words... It is comical in one respect, and while it should be laughed at, it is also just so terrible that this ridiculous thing creates so much human carnage.

Scientology PR is so often just so willfully obtuse, to a degree that you just don't see, anywhere else. It creates the impression that they themselves are so much less sharp than your average person... Of course, the reality is that within Scientology, so many creating this obtuse PR are doing it for an audience of one, that one being David Miscavige. The fact that Davey is so impressed by dum dum ill-logic has me convinced that despite the fact that he must have some kind of intelligence, albeit twisted, and not at all tempered by wisdom and decency, that he is himself not so bright.

@@fairyspunfibers9098 I remember feeling that way, when I was a little kid. LOL I bet this is why so much of Scientology's PR is just so incredibly braindeadly bad... David Miscavige just takes for granted that if something seems smart or right to him, that it just objectively IS. The reality is, everyone has strengths and weaknesses, intelligence is doing to go in specific directions for any person and, there's not some single prototype for how a person SHOULD be. Someone who is brilliant and mostly intuitive will see through things to see greater patterns, but intuition forces you to suppress the actual sensory image of the world, and someone with even just average intelligence that's more sensing than intuitive, might pick up on aspects of a thing that the genius never notices. Same for like, how much energy you put towards feeling, necessarily takes it away from thinking and vice-versa, solitary people miss out on social aspects of things and while they often can see things with greater depth, they're liable to have an autistic view where in they can't appreciate how others see a thing. And people who have judging personalities, people who are more prone to asking whether or not a thing is right and good or not, have more difficulty in just absorbing the objective reality of the world, and fitting into things as they exist. Every strength is a weakness, from some point of view. Intelligence needs to be tempered with wisdom. The smartest person would realize, you never truly know what someone else knows or does not know, what their goals are, geniuses can be out-thought by dummies, and they are, all the time. David Miscavige himself surely wasn't even close to the smartest person in Scientology, or the strongest, certainly not the best leader. But he had the awful will to take over, to do whatever horrible things he had to, to seize control. And mostly, he was just in the right place, at the right time. He was one of just a handful of folks who could have stepped up and claimed power, and in the end, being an antisocial, lying dingbat played a big part in helping him achieve his power. Of course, he probably thinks it was all down to his smarts or whatever

I heard Danny Masterson say the same thing about his religion being criticized in a way you can't do to Jews, Catholics, Etc. What's weird is that it was almost word-for-word identical coming from both of their mouths. I'd love to see it side-by-side. They must have memorized that from some scientology handbook.

Thank you for being this forward about this guy. Because I use to listen to some of his lives on X and no long longer will I be doing that. I always thought there was something sketchy about him & now I know why I had that feeling. Thanks again. Heard rumblings about him before, guess the truth does come out. 🙏🏻

He does have the right to practice is faith without interference As long as that practice does no harm to others. His financial dealings are deeply intertwined with Scientology, and cause verifiable (financial) harm to others.

Nobody's beliefs are above criticism, judgement or even condemnation. Whether or not someone's faith harms others or society in general is often open to question. In fact the very concept of religious faith can be argued to be damaging.

So sad that we live in a world that will accommodate people like Grant Cardone to deceive very good people of their $$$$$$. He is just one example of what is wrong in our world and why we need to be extremely careful of who we trust . His personal beliefs aren't the problem.

I bought The Bridge from 0 to OT3, around $100,000. After they had my money they said: "you didn't buy anything, we don't owe you anything, you made a donation to the Church. Scientology made me homeless. I eat food from dumpsters now.

Grant Cardone is the king of Con-men. During my time in Scientology in the 80’s I met several people whom raised big red flags 🚩 of conning people. It was one of many reasons I decided to leave Scientology in 1986. I didn’t have the internet back then for me to realize Scientology was dangerous.

Very interesting A-aron. I came for the Masterson mayhem but have stayed because you give a picture of what really goes on behind the scenes of this community. Every faith has its points of improbability but I guess Scientology is unique in that it's all science based. It's in the name, after all. ;-)

My answer to that question is that Scientology is not a religion. Just because IRS can classify it for tax purposes it's not a religion.whether they like it or not. I would say that it's more of a self help course because you pay for it. You don't pay normally for religion.
