I went to Hallstatt in 2018 and luckily the numbers of Chinese were few. I think the Major of Hallstatt is probably not too popular with the residents of Hallstatt having put this quaint little lakeside town on the Chinese map. Hallstatt gets swamped with Chinese in the summer months and I know if I lived there, I would not be too happy, even if some small souvenir and coffee shops do have good business. You can see from my video that it is a lovely place to stroll around even in winter.

The truly sad thing is that the Chinese don't seem to understand that foreign tourists want to see China, not a replica of the place they just left. The other big problem - as you mentioned many times - is that no one can afford to live in these places except the uber-rich and the money-hungry developers won't budge on price. Their whole balance sheet would fall apart if they did and take the banks and the rest of the economy with them. A video suggestion: instead of trashing China, why not do a video showing some of the beautiful and AMAZING places that you can visit such as the Wudang Mountain Temple or Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou or even the Summer Palace in Beijing.

The Chinese can afford to travel, but there are countries which they avoid-why is that? Simple-visa. Its not the affordability but the trouble. Look at the US under Donald Trump-visas were so much harder for the Chinese. So they just decided to say "f**k it, we will go to Dubai which is visa-free for us and spend our money there". 3. Time The affordability you are talking about is money. But time is a different thing. Everyone is equally rich or poor when it comes to time. Everyone has only 24 hours a day. So they may be rich but do they have the time to travel? Why fly 7 hours to a European city to shop at a famous store when that store has just opened an outlet behind your house which is only a 10 minute drive? 10 minute vs 7 hours flight, get it? With the time saved I can use that to earn more money. And that 7 hours does not include the time spent to interview at the embassy for the visa. As for not traveling to shop, you are obviously unaware of the high cost of foreign goods in China nor that the Chinese are famous for shopping tourism which probably accounted for a LOT of that 277 billion. I personally know several people who (pre-Covid) would travel to SK at least once a month to purchase luxury goods cheaper than in China then resell them for a modest mark-up that was still cheaper than buying the goods in the luxury shops in China. There's a "Little Venice" just 2 or 3 km away from where I live and the buildings are mostly empty and they don't even bother filling the canals with water anymore to provide gondola rides. The people who could afford to shop there were rich enough and had enough guanxi to travel to the real locations. Anyway... thank you for an interesting conversation.

A fake city is where buildings are built but its only the outer shell of the building, inside is all empty. A good example is Kijong-dong (google be your friend) in North Korea near the border with South Korea.
