@ 3:18 idk if this is gonna help anyone but I would use an expression to automate the process of -5 -10 -15... so...holding alt on windows or the option key on mac click the stopwatch next to position... place this expression : var i = index; var p = value; var d = -5; //this is the value to be moved by each time like -5 or -10 depending on how close u want the layers to be... [p[0],p[1],p[2]+(d*i)]; essentially what this is doing is its using the index of the layers the first layer would have an index of 1, 2nd 2, 3rd 3....and multiplying it by d so that the first layer moves by -5 the 2nd -10(-5*2) etc... and adding this calculation to the z value of the original position that the layer has... after u place this expression into the first layers postion u can duplicate the layer let it move itself make as many duplicates as u want....if anyone is interested in this more there is a way to connect the -5 to an effect to be able to control the distance of the layers without having to delete the duplicates adjusting the first one and duplicate them again... Z anchor is for like when u don’t want your 3d layer to move like a earth revolving the sun kinda thingy [ let’s say u made a cube, and put a null layer above it and keeps revolving like what I said above, just put the z anchor in the middle (like inside the cube) so that it rotates not revolves ] just a opinion, + thank u for this

@@rxseoffblock9990 got this by complete luck. i walked into a building looking for an admin job (im 18). turns out it was the wrong building but he invited me up anways, took one look at my resume and saw i had been using after effects for 4 years and hired me on the spot. so basically go to your local tv network building and ask if theyre looked for video editors or if they know anyone who is lol.

Same 😭 when I precompose 3d layers and turn 3d mode on, the 3d goes away then I get so confused then I have a mental breakdown on how to get it back when in reality i didn't know how, so I was stuck for weeks because of that one 3d problem, then I watched Lauren's tutorial, then I found the solution

The beta version of after effects supports 3d files now but I can’t work out how to put the screen that I already animated on the phone, I’ve tried doing it in a new comp but then I put that back in the main comp and it’s 2d, I can probably make the screen a 3d element and parent it to the phone model to animate them together but it’s a pain bc I know that if I used element 3d I could keep the glass texture over the screen but element 3d costs like $300 so uhh no thanks..

let’s say i have a clip that’s rotated about the y axis at some amount of degrees- when it turns, it gets darker and the light layering adds some shading to give it depth when it does this rotation!
