Nintendo is slow but can be brutal if they will lose money. reproductions have save file problems can break it if reset to much when shiny hunting.

Just a simple correction: In RBY and GSC, the battery keeps the save on the board. If it dies or someone removes it, the save is gone forever. The clock uses the little piece covered in (mostly) white tape as shown in 2:47. It's in RSE the battery is used only for time-based events and the save is stored in a manner safer than depending on the battery charge level. Thank you for the video. Generation 3 has been horribly ruined for me because of the reproduction cart market and even just recently when I bought leafgreen and firered at my local college swapmeet for 15 bucks each thinking they where real due to the cartridge looking “legit” and the board inside it seeming to have the correct Nintendo logo inside it they have only gotten better about it and only ruined my gen 3 even harder for me since I’d like to be able to play the original games for the sake of migrating into newer games and that same vendor at the swapmeet is trying to sell fake DS games which looks blatantly fake

If you end up with 1 legit copy of a game, you can trade from the Repros to the legit cartridge then you can migrate up to DS. So you'll still be able to have adventures on those repro carts with your Pokemon, trade up and get your moneys worth. Hope it goes well~

It’s good that at least Pokémon is popular, so the Roma have been preserved for as long as they have. But I still have no idea why they haven’t tried to continue keeping games available through virtual console, especially since we only got Gens 1 and 2 through there. Would literally be free money for them to keep old games available digitally. So now the responsibility falls on the fans.

Well, after playing Crystal on my 3DS, I wanted to play SoulSilver because I really liked this game. I bought it from the internet, and when the cartridge arrived, I looked at it and thought "It look legit but doesn't *feel* legit", so I asked my friend who has a Reddit account (I didn't feel like making one myself) to post the photos of the cartridge I sent him and ask if it's actually a real game. He replied two days later and said that everybody told him it's fake. Now that SoulSilver copy lays in a box in my room, because I don't want to look at it and I couldn't return it because I bought it on an auction and on the site I bought it you can't return such items. Was everything I've written here my fault? Yes. Probably. Do I hate people who make fake copies of old games? Yes. Definately.

Next time before buying ask your friend but i hope you left a bad review that it was fake at least you can contact the website you bought it off they you were sold a fake game and are put off from buying things from their website now which will get their attention because they make profit from part of the sales so do not want a bad rep.

For a little bit of future reference, pokemon Heartgold, Soulsilver, Black, White, and Black 2/White 2 all have a black looking cartridge that should appear slightly translucent red if you shine a light against it.

The gen 3 reproduction carts act weird whenever it comes to trading. My friend had a repro of sapphire and it would delete his save file sometimes at random. The trades with official carts would go through but whenever his game would be turned off and back on, his save file would delete. Also the ruby reproduction cart I bought in high school in 2016 wouldn’t be recognized by colosseum’s bonus disc. It also couldn’t trade with my official cart of emerald.

i bought a repro copy of soulsilver without realizing it at the time, it worked fine up until a point but then stopped turning on properly. thing is, it worked fine on the 3ds i was borrowing from a friend, but not my ds lite, so i handed it off to them. my copy of platinum might also be a repro, but it can send pokemon all the way up to gen 8, so if it’s a fake then it’s a damn good one.

I think the best moment I ever had in my whole life as a Pokemon fan was going to a game store with my friends and looking at their DS selection - just seeing what they had, especially if they had any of the older Pokemon games I could gift to friends - only to realize they were accidentally selling a fake copy of Pokemon Pearl (it's my first game in the series so I'd know how the cartridge looks by heart, instead of the usual magenta watercolor splash there was this weird metallic rose-gold streak on it). I informed the staff and they checked it out and realized "oh yup, this is a bootleg". Was a fun time, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't considering buying that bootleg cartridge just out of curiosity for at least a few seconds.

I do know that real DS games are ever so slightly red and transparent when you hold them up to the light, at least in the case of Pokemon Heartgold. Fakes of Heartgold tend to lack this.

I got a reproduction cart of Emerald and I didn’t realise until it reset my game a day after I started my play through (also the cartridge was a bit off size wise). I do intend to buy a legitimate cartridge soon enough once I get the money but honestly the challenge of trying to beat Emerald in a day due to a fake cartridge is pretty fun lol

I bought a fake soulsilver on ebay and it was able to connect to my friend's real platinum cartridge but it wasn't picked up by my Pokémon Save File Editor that exists on my homebrewed 3DS.

Yeah, the transferring part of the big issue. I just wanted to play Fire Red period, so I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get the reproduction cartridge while I was there, but I guess not. But I’m sure getting legitimate games will be easier going forward as everything settles down.

I feel bad for you. My cousin had a copy (a legit one ofc) and gave it to me to play when I was into Pokemon. Now when I got Shield for my 16th birthday, (the 17th Feb 2022) I admit I despised it. Now that I'm back into Pokemon I transferred my Emerald save pokemon to Shield. Saving grace

I think I have a reproduction Pokémon Platinum, but the only major it has is that it freezes sometimes. But saving and not playing it for a while really helps extend the playtime I get out of it. I enjoy Pokémon Platinum, and the reproduction thing isn’t taking anything out of the experience, it’s just the freezing is mildly annoying, especially in the early game. But the good thing is that when I finally got pass the “get your starter and fight Barry, my Turtwig ended being female :D Edit: ok, taking in some things from reading the comments, I think it might be real, just crappy. The sticker is on there just fine and always has been, just dirty from me holding it and shoving it into my 3DS. And it fits just fine with my 3DS as well. I’m still skeptical though, but my Pokémon Platinum works just fine minus the freezing.

I got my hands on a copy of Emerald and Leaf Green from GameStop a few years back for around $20 each if I remember correctly (this was before the pandemic hit and well before the big nostalgia price jump). I’ve inspected them thoroughly, plus the fact that they’re from an official store that sells games and says that they inspect pre-owned games before putting them back up for purchase, so I’m almost certain they’re legit, but whenever videos like this come up I can’t help but get them out and inspect them again as I’m listening lol.

i really would not trust gamestop. you might have gotten lucky but i have seen many fake cartridges (ususally diamond/pearl/platinum) for sale there. a friend of mine even bought one once, realized it was fake, returned it, and they put it right back out for sale. they don't care.

I've had a few bad dealings with repro DS games (had 2 fake versions of white from ebay) but the GB/GBA ones have been good.....so far. I do agree with the emulation point though, it is the much better way to play.

Also on August 2022 they prohibited Nintendo eShop cards from working on 3DS/Wii U eShop accounts, they only work on Switch eShop accounts now. 4:05 Umm, no, it's just as expensive as always, in fact I'd argue it's gonna get even more expensive now to collect the real Pokemon game carts since not only is Nintendo shutting down the 3DS eShop, but also with Pokemon Scarlet/Violet having been released and ending up being an unpolished, broken mess of a game, yeah, prices on these older Pokemon games will get even higher than ever.

The time never changes because no save battery and I just ended up buying an authentic copy of Sapphire recently to play through Hoenn again authentically. Don't buy repros, they're not worth the money. Play the rom on your computer or phone.

the pokemon on fake ds games can go up to newer games via bank, because I have done it, the issue comes with the GBA games, they have to be legit to trade up to the DS but the DS games themselves do not need to be real

You didn't even mention the compatibility issues: Reproductions of Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal cannot interact with Either Pokémon Stadium Game for the N64, due to the reproductions not using the correct SAV chip or even a chip to emulate that chip. Meaning the REAL post game of the first 2 Gens are inaccessible. The Reproductions of Gen 3 are worse, They cannot trade with ANY other Gen 3 game cart, Repro or not, due to lacking the actually technology that is part of the Cartridge that is responsible for the Trade functions. Because of this, Trade evolutions AND the ability transfer Pokémon into the Gen 4 Games(As that also requires the same tech), are impossible to obtain or move up. This Also means a repro cannot Trade with Pokemon Colosseum or XD Gale of Darkness, so you cannot acquire the Shadow Pokémon of those games for use in your GBA game. Meaning a large chunk of extra gen 3 content cannot be experienced with repros. Though... with a bit of finagling and homebrew knowledge and the proper tools, you can backup and restore the SAV files for all the Pokemon games and move them to what ever you want. Like How I moved my SAV data for both my copies of Red and Crystal from their original Carts to my 3DS VC copies

if you want to play the ds pokemon games get an R4 cartridge, it allows you to use local wireless communication so you can trade pokemon between the R4 and a legitimate copy. i did it with my sacred gold because i found a legit shiny full odds makuhita.

Personally repros are good if you really couldn't afford the real game. But passing it off as a legit game is a very ass thing to do especially for those who wants to collect them. Repros are good if you want a cheaper and legit way to trade Pokemon without spending a shitload of money or hacking in the pokemon while other people just opt to emulation but with the challenge of transferring their Pokemon to a legit Nintendo console. Overall it's up to personal tastes of every individual if they want to play the game legit, cheap or emulation.
