Her mum felt really bad, so she went to the shop across the road and bought him a bag of food.. Rice, curry,noodles and water. Some funeral homes will let u pay later if u cant pay. My cousin (really my sister) recently died at 33 and our family couldnt pay so the funeral home gave us time and people donated and it all worked out. I can confirm at 3:00 my grandma gets a check and its only 600 so by the end of the day we’re broke, and sometimes work doesn’t pay enough for hospital bills, vet bills, etc. I’ve asked for a cash sometimes at a corner when our dog was extremely deathly ill and the vet bills were thousands of dollars. My wife and I took my grandson to Disneyland a couple of years ago, and I'll admit, I'm a little rough looking with my beard etc. Was walking to 7-11 to get a beer and one of the street scammers started his speech of "hey, where are you from, what's you're name, blah blah blah," and I said, "I'm from just down the street, I'm homeless, thanks for reminding me asshole." He didn't know what to say after that and just sputtered a bit and never bothered me again for the next two weeks I was there.

My father used to work in Washington DC, and he always told me about the amount of fakes he saw on the streets. When I was vacationing with my family there, my dad took me out, and we walked around so he could show me what he did with the homeless when he was working. We walked up to people who held up signs asking for money for food, and we offered to take them to the nearest McDonalds to buy them a meal. Now 20% of the time, they were legit, and they got a free meal from us. But the other 80%, they declined our offer, and when we asked why, they wouldn't respond. The honest ones, which was a VERY few (like two out of the forty we talked to) would respond ashamed, and say they were gonna buy drugs with the money.

When the fakes actually have to get up and go with us, they are more likely to decline our offer. So the legit ones, were the ones that walked with us to the corner nearby.

We have this group of people who literally take shifts on this one busy corner at the exit of a highway. One guy will sit under the ramp while the other guy works. They get picked up by a really nice car after and someone else replaces them. One of my dad's friends offered one of them men a job washing dishes and he declined. My friend went to on vacation and she was going to give a man money and he literally said "nah it's fine I got enough I'm just gonna go buy some alcohol." They sit where they know there are a lot of tourists and ask for money knowing people will give it to them.

I asked for money once. I was 19 years old. Moved 3500km from home. Caught a greyhound where there was a stopover. Foolishly thought there would be a bus depot open. Nope. Eleven pm. Connecting bus will show up at 7am. Damn. They were kind enough to put my luggage in the depot to keep it safe but I couldn’t stay there. Saw a 24 hour Denny’s. Asked a couple of people for some change, went to Denny’s, explained to the staff. They gave me a meal and let me stay until the bus came back. I’m not poor, homeless or ever pretend to be but strangers helped me out. Forever grateful.

I can sooooooooo relate to this once when i was in mexico i saw a "homeless" person. and then i knew he wasnt poor because he was wearing NIKE shoes and a nice chain neckless. I told my dad not to give money to him and his family BUT MY DAD STILL DID. I was triggered after that. and also the was this "homeless" person in mexico and she was BEGGING for food and money and my sis was eating a bag of nuts so that was probley why she came up to her, and my sis gave the "homeless" girl her WHOLE BAG OF NUTS. And i just heared this from my mom because i was just at the hotel in texas. But if you give a homeless person some food, MAKE SURE ITS A REAL HOMELESS PERSON. And if it is, you will make the homeless person's day. Once my friend's mom was going to get her eyelashes done and she saw a REAL homless person, we knew it was real because he was all beat up and he was dirty. My friend's mom felt bad and gave him some money. I think we made his day because he started to cry and he got really happy, NOT TEARS OF SADNESS LTEARS OF JOY! My mom works at a place that help homeless veterans get back on their feet, and I have to say I know a lot about this stuff. A homeless person can have a phone. I’ve met a lot of homeless people with phones, so unless it’s the iPhone X or something, it’s not unlikely for a homeless person to have a phone. They could just have a flip phone, which is the bare necessities to call 411. (The phone number to call when you need shelter that night) So please don’t judge them based on whether or not they have an outdated phone. Also, when you’re disabled, yes the government gives you a check every month, but I know for a fact that you don’t need a house to get it. A lot of the homeless people my mom worked with got disabled checks and that was all they were living by. Also, some homeless people may not have jobs because THEY DON’T HAVE THEIR BIRTH CERTIFICATE. You need that to get a paper that allows you to get a job. So if u don’t have ur birth certificate, then you can’t get a job. It’s not always their fault.

Also what people don't realize if people that do have a place and are collecting welfare or disability are hardly getting enough to even pay for rent. I am Canadian and live in Toronto and to rent a room at the cheapest it's $600-$800. Welfare gives a little over $700 and disability give $900 for a single person. On these you get your prescriptions covered and in Canada we all get free health care but after rent most don't have enough for groceries or bus fare.
